Environmental Planning and Design, LLC (formerly Simonds and Simonds) was establishedin 1939 to provide public and private clients landscape architectural, urban design andcommunity planning services. Our 73 years of experience has allowed us to develop anationally acclaimed practice and an enduring legacy. The present organization, its thirdgeneration of ownership, includes Jack R. Scholl, Andrew JG Schwartz, and Susan M.Simmers as Principals.

EPD holds registrations and certifications in the fields of Landscape Architecture, Architectureand Planning. The firm's diversity allows us to deal with a multitude of issues, ranging inscale and complexity. As the basis of our project philosophy, we utilize an iterative design process to blend ourskills in stewardship, analysis, and conceptualization. We continuously evaluate a project'sstrategic implications and subsequently refine its specific attributes to optimize the designsolution. Through this iterative process, we are able to fuse the principals of sustainableplanning and green design with the reality of economic needs, design practicality andcommunity values. Moreover, we feel designing the appropriate level of client and/or publicinvolvement in the planning and design process is imperative for success. Our firm hasdeveloped and extensively used participation techniques to establish "consensus".
