Elections of the students union was the key event in the calendar of Dow. One could recall an election campaign probably in the year 1975. A week before the event a pavilion with the banner of Baloch Students Organization (BSO) appeared in the campus area. Songs in Balochi and Persian were endlessly played and one can locate Illahie Buksh of the Batch of ‘79 as a party avant-garde, full of enthusiasm and zeal. In those times maestros of the order of Faiz Mohammad Baloch visited and sang live at the BSO Camp to add color to the occasion. The company of Illahie Buksh included Allah Nawaz Bugti, Abdul Wahid, Irshad Khoso, Amir, Shershah and Zaheer Babar etc.

Illahie Buksh had his college education in Khuzdar before joining Dow. The time spent in the hostels of Dow was a learning experience in its own right, where life runs 24/7/365 at the same pace to train you to bear out all sorts of hitches and handicaps, yet organizes you to relish in the best of the ways. Keeping a low key outlook, Buksh graduated. Khawaja Moin and Moula Buksh Jamali Sahib were his counselors during his house job.

Public Services Commission enabled Buksh to join the Health Ministry of the Government of Balochistan with the maiden job of Medical Officer at Gadani. It was very close to Karachi and hence remained a source of a silent link with the friends at Dow.

In those times Ship Breaking Industry at Gadani was probably the biggest on planet and Illahie Buksh was busy to serve the labor class for a long period of five years. He then joined Balochistan Social Security Institution at Hub for nine years.

Stay in England won him a MPH diploma from the Nuffield Institute of Public Health and a posting in Uthal Lasbella at a senior spot. Following this assignment he was posted as Executive District Officer at the Medical Stores Depot in the provincial capital in Quetta. The final posting was that of Medical Superintendent at the famous Helpers Eye Institute before he called it a day in Grade Twenty.

A new lease of life started when Illahie Buksh joined Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) portfolio. He was very popular in the provincial activities of the Association. At the PMA Center until recently he was the Joint Secretary.

Meanwhile the family grew and picked up vital assignments. The eldest son is an aircraft maintenance engineer in the national carrier. The second is serving the provincial government as an architect. His daughter has graduated from Fatima Jinnah Medical College and is currently working at Gangaram Hospital. The youngest son is doing his BBA.

Illahie Buksh has a passion to enjoy games at various reserves like the Hingol National Park. He commutes between Karachi and Quetta often where his sons reside. He visits friends in Dubai and England to share merry moments and nostalgic times. Retirement is a stage of live when one loves to take out the time to sit back and enjoy the fruits of his labor, feel the breeze, smell the flowers, hear the birds, and appreciate this wonderful life. Illahie Buksh is a believer that retirement is also the beginning of a journey of self-discovery.

Thank you Shoaib and Khalid Iqbal for this week's beautiful presentation of POTW.

IB, without a shadow of a doubt, is the most wonderful, trustworthy, easy-going friend. I once,

accompanied by

Shaboo went to stay with IB and his wife in his Gadani Haveli; we stayed there for three days and were

treated like royalties. I will never forget the pleasure of fishing in the mornings and enjoyment of Mrs IB's

delicious & enticing home cooked meals.

IB, my friend, I hope you are reading this and I hope you know how much we love you. Stay happy and

keep smiling; always. Love & hugs,

Dear IB,

What a wonderful conclusion of one life and the beginning of another fruitful experience. God bless you

my man. I still reminisce some wonderful time spent with you in the hostel. Nice to know the good

upbringing and achievements of your children.

Me and Wahid were remembering you, in a nice way, of course! We had a good laugh about some of the

statements you made. You always had a way with coming out with the zingers. My best regards to you

and your family. Thanks to team Shoaib for yet another worthy effort
