    P A G E 2V O L U M E 1 , I S S U E 2 6An Asian Wedding Show at The ACE Centre, Nelson on

Saturday 30 November 2013 proved a big hit with hun-

dreds of people attending. There were a whole range of

wedding stalls including some beautiful clothing and a great

fashion show. Visitors also sampled some delicious food

served by the ACE Centres Hospitality team. Nelsons born

and bred singer Kiran Khan was on stage and she was very

impressive, and there was pianist Bobby Bollywood too.

A traditional harpist played beautiful music to welcome visitors. Sean Lawler, Manager of the Ace

Centre commented, This was a very successful event and it brought all the community together.

We plan to hold a similar event next year to showcase the wonderful facilities the Ace Centre has to

offer and support and promote local businesses who specialise in Weddings and special events.

Next years event will be a lot bigger... we cant wait.

First of all a very Happy NewYear and I hope everyone en-

joyed the holidays. As 2014starts we will be thinking wherethe whole year just disappearedto and many will be thinkingabout how fast it flew by. Aswe enter 2014 there will bemany of you who will have de-cided to do something different

this year and make a resolution.

A friend of mine last year saidto me that he will not be going to the sales afterChristmas and New Year as he ends up spendingmoney on too many unnecessary items and clothing.Once he gets home he realises that he has spenttoo much than he could afford. However when thecredit card bills arrive through the post thats when

he wishes that he had not spent too much. This isthe case with many of us however if you have a

resolution this year I suggest you try to stick to it.

Last year I made a few resolutions myself, howeverdue to lack of willingness I only managed to achievea few goals. One of them was based on improvingmy health. I enjoy my junk food and I decided thatin 2013 I will cut down on my junk intake. So in or-der to try and fulfil that resolution I decided to seekhelp and advice. I managed to get a personal healthtrainer and after a couple of weeks of planning, con-sultations, setting targets and goals and changingeating habits, I managed to make a big difference tomy health. The targets were small but they made abig impact to my life. I successfully managed to makea lifestyle change through this health trainer serviceprovided by my local council. These types of goalsare not easy to achieve. You do need confidenceand the will power and some support and motiva-tion from family and friends. Whatever new thingsyou feel you want to do in life, or if you feel youwant to start afresh then it is never too late. Any-thing is possible. You just need to focus, seek rele-vant advice from the right people and you can

    achieve your goals and ambitions.

I learn a lot in everyday life through experience andI would like to pass these things to the readers too.

I remember a close friend and colleague of minewho had a terminal illness and was told that he

would only live for around 2 more months; how-ever, because of his willingness and willpower hestayed another few years. Unfortunately he died lastyear but what I learnt from him was that you haveto be optimistic about everything. He always didsomething or the other rather than just sitting athome doing nothing and getting more ill. He stayedin touch with friends and continued with voluntarywork and enjoyed his time till the end. He person-ally told me that these sorts of things actuallyhelped him and I think that time flies too fast andwe will not be able to get this time back so its best

to make the most of it. I know everyone is busywhether you are working or not, everyone hassomething to do however as the year starts, spendsome quality time with loved ones, grandparents, parents, family members and make a resolution ontaking some time off for friends and family. You mayhave elderly parents who you may be seeing once aweek. Rather than once a week, go see them moreoften. These are the things that we wont regret

because when people die and loved ones are lost, thats when you wish that you could go back in

    time.

For those who have illnesses, have hope, cherishevery moment and take each day as it comes. Thosewho are healthy look after your health and dosomething that will make a difference both to yourlife and to someone elses life. Whilst writing this

article I remembered a very elderly person who has

gone back to studying and has completed it eventhough his family said to him that he was too old togo back into education. He has actually finished hisstudies now and he is now teaching. When I askedhim what made him go to study he said to me thatlife is all about learning. This taught me that what-ever age you are, it is never too late to do some-thing that you have always wanted. Take this timeand opportunity to do something you have always

    wanted and follow your dreams.

As for me I am thinking of some new initiatives andI pray that everyone has a blessed and prosperous

    new year.

    P A G E 5V O L U M E 1 , I S S U E 2 6Smoking rates across East Lancashire are higher than the national average and many smokers are

aware of the health risks associated with this habit. However, there are many communities who tradi-tionally use tobacco in Paan and Gutkha without realising that this can have a serious impact on oral

health, as well as increasing their risk of developing life-threatening diseases such as cancer.

Cultural beliefs suggest that Paan can be a remedy for common, minor ailments such as indigestion, stress and toothache and users therefore presume that the oral/smokeless tobacco used in Paan must

be less harmful than smoking tobacco.

However, tobacco in all its forms whether smoked as a cigarette, inhaled from a Hookah pipe orchewed in the mouth increases the users chance of developing cancers throughout the body. All to-bacco is extremely addictive and harmful so it is advisable to stop or cut down tobacco use as well as

ensure that children and young people are not exposed to it.

The local NHS Stop Smoking Service provides free advice and support to anyone who would like to

If you do use oral/smokeless tobacco and notice any of these symptoms which have lasted for more

than three weeks, you must visit your dentist or doctor:

A sore or ulcer inside your mouth or your tongue

A lump anywhere in your mouth or neck

A red or white patch in your mouth

An unexplained pain in your mouth or ear

Numbness in your tongue or mouth

A very sore throat or hoarse voice

Pendle Community Radio is now offering

local businesses the opportunity to adver-

tise or sponsor programmes on the radio.

Pendle Radio is very popular amongst the

local community & is also available on the

internet, as such it offers a great opportunity for businesses to ad-

vertise their products to this growing consumer demographic.

The expense of advertising on other types of media can be a re-

strictive factor especially for smaller businesses and this is precisely

where Pendle Radio can help. Ad spots can be bought by the sec-

ond and as such offer great value for money.

The science of advertisement suggests repetition and simplicity are

the key to a good radio advert, the cost of ads on Pendle Radio

means even smaller businesses can now purchase repetitive ads.

Pendle Radio can also author and produce your advertisements for

    you.

If you would like to advertise on Pendle Radio please contact us via
