    PRESIDENTS MESSAGE:

Hopefully everyone had a good Holiday season. I had to work both Christmas Day and New Years Day, so there were a lot of adjust-ments to be made to our regular Holiday rou-tine. Unfortunately our rabbit family suffered some losses over the Holiday, such as the death of John Gillis. Please keep the families of those who have had losses and those fac-ing major challenges, such as the Manglbergers in your thoughts and prayers.

    With all the activities that will be coming to Texas in 2014, this promises to be a very busy year. There will be many opportunities to help in many of these activities, so dont be bashful. Sometimes all it takes is a willingness to run a couple of errands to be a significant help to those trying to make a show run opti-mally. Along those lines, Thank You to all of you who have volunteered to be Breed Chairs at the TRBA State Show, but we still need more. For those that are wondering what will need to be done, here are the main duties;

    1. Pick up and return the paperwork (comment cards and/or control sheets) to the Show Secretarys area.

    2. Arrange for writers and other help be-hind the table.

    3. As much as possible, provide a way to get animals to the table if the owner isnt available.

There are other things that can be done as part of these responsibilities, but these are the main ones that will help the State Show run as smoothly as possible.

Consider joining an All-Breed Club. Most of the All-Breed Clubs left in the state could use more help. The fewer All-Breed Clubs there are, the fewer All-Breed shows there will be. Remember Specialty Clubs cannot sanction an All-Breed show. The TRBA can sponsor some All-Breed shows but we would need help from the membership to do so. Much of the flavor and diversity of what was the TRBA has been lost with the loss of some of our oldest All-Breed Clubs. The more we work together, the stronger the organization be-comes.

I have been hearing increasing complaints about the difficulties and dangers of trying to get to the show tables. Several years ago I sent out a message asking exhibitors to be more considerate of those around them. Please pay a little attention to your surround-ings and the paths that others will need to get to and from the judging tables. There is no good reason why we should create obstacles that will cause someone to get injured. Help make the shows safer for everyone.

Have a fun and successful Spring Show season and help support as many of your Texas rabbit Clubs as you can.

    Take care, Tony

VICE PRESIDENTS MESSAGE: Happy New Year, everyone, our family en-joyed some great times over the Christmas Holidays and are blessed to have been able to see most of our out of state family. We have a new Grandnephew and are enjoy how our family is growing.

Entries are in for one of Texas best stock shows around, the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. Although its fun to see all the rabbits on display, coop shows present us breeders with special challenges. We will start saving up feedbags now, to use as sepa-rators for the coops to reduce spray stains, nipped noses, and the spread of illness. Lets all check over our rabbits well for a couple of days prior to the show to be sure no one has signs of our typical illnesses. Its a great idea to start your rabbits on special conditioning for the extra stress electrolytes and probiot-ics work well for our show team. Its good to bring along some snacks for rabbits that may not find their pellets appetizing. Oats, cheer-ios, calf manna, sweet potatoes, and hay are good choices. There are many people brows-ing through the barn during the show, some of whom are not aware or concerned with how they can frighten or harm an animal. Please look out for everyones animals and intervene if needed.

One of our members approached me after a recent show with concerns regarding sick rabbits at the show. A fellow exhibitor at the show was explaining how they were having a large amount of dying rabbits at home and were working to sanitize and clean their barn to prevent further deaths. Of course, they had a few they were able to bring for the show. Although none of us want to miss a show, we must also be respectful of our fel-low breeders and not introduce illness to someone elses herd. Its perfectly okay to come to a show without rabbits, and get to volunteer and watch and learn more about your breed and others. Remember, if you are concerned with something like this at a show, and dont feel comfortable addressing the exhibitor, please approach one of the TRBA officers. You can suggest that there are many experienced breeders at the show that can help identify typical rabbit illnesses and pro-vide husbandry suggestions on how to treat and prevent, and offer to find one to come and speak with them.

Much work is already starting on the Texas-hosted ARBA Convention for this year. Check out their website, and contact members of the host club to help with the show. Many of us are already planning our breedings for spring to have some great stock for the convention.

Texas is also hosting the National Mini Rex Show this spring, March 28th-30th. Even if you arent a mini rex breeder, this is going to

be a large and fun show. Volunteer to help out and learn how a National show is man-aged. Its a perfect time to walk around and observe how these large coop shows work, and can help first-time convention exhibitors prepare for convention.

Many thanks to all the volunteers that run our shows and our clubs secretaries, superinten-dents, comment takers, comment card sort-ers, concession stand workers, and club offi-cers. I personally love this hobby and am grateful that we have so many people willing to gather and work and make this hobby suc-cessful.

    SECRETARYS MESSAGE:

    Spring is Here?????

Hope the Ice and Snow is gone for awhile as it has not been fun with frozen water and the rabbits wanting to drink. Now on a positive note! Nest boxes are filling up with fall hope-fuls for the ARBA Convention in Fort Worth. I hope you all are making plans on attending the ARBA Convention this year since it is in our own backyard for a change. Date for this is November 1 - 5, 2014 mark your calendars! For those that have never been, it is over-whelming to see so many rabbits and cavies in one location and having all the breeds in the ARBA Standard of Perfection represented there.

going in your barns but my does don't want to breed, the bucks are looking me as if to say "and why did you bring her to me?" Not much help for getting convention rabbits g o i n g r i g h t n o w . At this time Mini Rex Nationals is less than 60 days so it's panic time. I hope everyone stays healthy and safe and has a great time at Na-tionals. I for one am very excited that Nation-als and Convention are both going to be in our back yard! I know it's a lot of work and a lot of late nights but we can pull it off with everyone's help. If you can help in any way just let someone know, there will be enough work to go around, believe me. If you have some snap shots from the shows please send them in. We all love to see pho-tos, so lets share what we have from the shows. Just write a note to identify the per-son. A group having fun together is also good. Don't forget the youth photos too. Till next time, keep you and your kits warm,

    FROM DIRECTOR

    PAM ROWLETT:

Hope everyone had a good holiday!

Its the start of a new year! As I am trying to get some things organized (that pesky New Years resolution thing), I have been thinking back to when I first started showing rabbits. I am working on my 5th year with this hobby and things have come a long way. The first show rabbits we bought were Jersey Wool-ies for my daughter. We had never been to a show, and had no idea what to do. I Googled it (cause Google knows everything) and found out the basic things to have at a show. Car-rier-check, water-check, coop cup-???-well we zip tied coffee mugs in the carrier, grooming table-bought a plastic table at the dollar store, pens, money and chairs. The breeder told us to just show up and look for her. We showed up and asked someone where we need to set up. They were newbies too and had no idea either. We found someone who said be a squatter and just pick a spot. Thankfully we found an exhibitor that helped us out. She helped us fill out the paperwork and showed us where to pay. As we were waiting to hear our breed called, a man lean-ing on the rail asked what I was doing. When I told him nothing, he said to go with him.

ther prior to or right after the meeting. Be-cause the TRBA Banquet will be on Saturday evening, the closing time of the showroom is very important so we can all cleanup and return for fun and fellowship.

    TREASURERS MESSAGE:

    Hello to All,

This issue is packed full of information so be sure and read all the articles. We are prepar-ing for the State Show and getting things in order for the State Meeting. The BOD elected to have the meeting in conjunction with the show to save on expenses and let the Fun Day go back to being what it was originally in-tended to be a Fun Day. We wanted it to be just a day to enjoy each other and some really good food.

The 4th quarter financial report is included in this issue. We had an income of $6025.79 with expenses of $5567.56 leaving us a gain of $458.23. The balance on the general fund is $6513.60 and the balance on the scholarship savings is $6115.95. The Wells Fargo CD is at $33533.36. The Scholarship Auction from the Fort Worth Stock Show was $2650.00. We had some very generous donors and buyers. There is a list in this issue. Thank you to all that participated.

The Fall Show was canceled due to the ice storm but we were able to have all the sanc-tions transferred to the State Show and the building deposit has been applied to next years show. The only expense we had for the Fall Show was that of $160.44 for Tom Barkers motel expenses. Tom was bringing judging tables for that show and he went down early to avoid the storm but got caught and couldnt get back to Fort Worth for 4 days. Tom graciously paid for half of the ex-penses leaving the club with only a small loss for that show. TRBA is fortunate to have members that go beyond the call of duty to help the club.

I have filed all the 1099s for 2013 with the IRS and am working on getting all the figures to give to the CPA. Kenny and I have been making sure that all of our records match exactly. This takes an enormous amount of time and a few arguments over who is right. I will say that we are tied right now on the wins. I will be meeting with the audit commit-tee before State Show and will have all the fiscal year end reports available at the meet-ing. I did speak to Mr. Thiele and we have not gotten a ruling on our non profit status.

Now a little time to brag. My partner, Lauri Wiss, and I were fortunate to have won Best in Show at the Fort Worth Stock Show this year. I must say it caught me a little off guard. Everyone knows that I love my Dutch bunnies and have never really been about the winning since I started in Open. I love to go the shows and enjoy the time spent with my friends. This win was really a life long dream and I am so blessed to have a partner that understands my passion for the shows. Thank you to Lauri Wiss and Anne Tater for helping make this dream come true.

    See ya,

    Gay

ummm ok.. Well, Tom Barker puts me at Tonnas table and tells me to write comments for her. I did, all day. I learned more in that day, than I could have imagined. She showed me the difference in density of color, flesh condition, molting, a prime coat, rabbit parts. You name it, she showed me. After that day, I was absolutely hooked on our won-derful hobby. We now have good carriers, coop cups, a proper grooming table, all of the niceties. It has taken a while to accumulate the good stuff. I like helping new exhibitors, because I was there once, as we all were at some point or another.

The national shows will be happening in the coming weeks. I myself, will be going to my first national show with some of my Silvers. I may get kicked off of the table first, but I am excited about the experience and meeting other breeders. This is the year I will be going to my first convention. Hopefully, I will have something decent to show.

We are dealing with some family health issues, as many other are, but I am hopeful this will be a good year. Be careful in your travels and may your nest boxes be full!
