the EOF Program hosted its 2011 Chi Alpha Epsilon (XAE) Honor S o c i e t y i n d u c t i o n ceremony. XAE was founded in 1990 by the Honorable Dr. Elbert Saddler – Counseling Psychologist at West Chester University in P e n ns y l va n i a . T he society was created as a response to an increasing need to acknowledge the continuing success of s t u d e n t s i n t h e university’s academic development program. Realizing the number of students striving to do well academically, who s h a r e d s i m i l a r experiences and who
could serve as role models for others became one of the driving forces behind Chi Alpha Epsilon.
T h e s o c i e t y w a s registered as a non-profit organization in 1997 allowing it to become a national honor society. Chi Alpha recognizes the academic achievements of students admitted to colleges and universities through non-traditional c r i t e r i a a n d wh o p a r t i c i p a t e i n developmental education support services, such as EOF and CASE/Horizons programs at County College of Morris. This year, we inducted a total of 18 students from EOF
and CASE/Horizons. These students met the society’s requirement of a 3.0 or higher GPA while enrolled as a full-time student for a minimum of t w o c o n s e c u t i v e semesters. In addition to all our new inductees, we also recognized the achievements of six current XAE members who improved their GPA to a 3.5 or higher for the Fall and/or Spring s e m e s t e r s w h i l e maintaining their full-time status. These students received a “pin upgrade” from our induction pin to either a ruby, emerald or diamond pin depending on their GPA.

The event was hosted by our EOF Director, Pamela Marcenaro and it was well attended by our inductees, their friends, and family and other CCM staff members: including Dr. Sharon Craig—Director, Learning Disabilities & Testing Center, Edith Nelson—EOF Counselor and Gene Moss—EOF Adminis t r a t i ve Assistant. The afternoon began with our private XAE induction ceremony and immediately followed with a luncheon reception to celebrate our students and give their family and friends an opportunity to be involved in the traditional “pinning” ceremony. We want to acknowledge and congratulate all our new and current X A E s t u d e n t s f o r t h e i r achievements, as they have faced

to display the EOF Student Alliance, a chapter of the AESNJ, with the display board and the new Alliance brochures amongst other EOF program information and giveaways.
The conference offered the keynote speaker, Richard Smith, MA, who related his own personal journey from
being incarcerated to current student advocate. There were several workshops offered; those attended were “How to Strengthen Your EOF Voice” facilitated by the AESNJ Chairperson, Daniel Langford, and “A Committee of One Gets things Done”, by Dominique Smith of the National Society of Leadership and Success, the Chapter Support Coordinator. Good information for enhancing the Alliance was given, including team building exercises and getting various types of personalities to work together on a common goal.
There were also several other vendors there including NJIT, In Roads Internship Program and Wells Fargo Bank. Wells Fargo has a money skills education program that EOF may bring to CCM in the spring. Overall, it was a very

UNICEF this year! We have topped all our previous drives with now over $335.00! Brenda Lizarraga had the super idea to ask permission to leave the orange boxes in department offices and the cafeterias for increased donations, and when she, Carlos Mejia and Casey Vreeland went around collecting the orange boxes, more donations poured in! Wow- thanks to ALL of you, and all the EOF students who worked the booth and yelled out for poor children around the world. KUDOS!
Finally, a note to recognize the wonderful ‘bakers’ who once again came out with zillions of cute cupcakes and other goodies for the October 19th Diversity Bake Sale. Thank you for your commitment and work, baking, selling and getting the Alliance funds back up with a profit of
