Commodores Corner…

We are ready for another active month with the Dunedin Boat Club!

➢ Book Club on April 11th at the Club House. Read the book, then RSVP on the website.

➢ We have the Dock Party on April 14th, always an enjoyable meeting with fellow members and boat owners. Be sure to bring a guest who would be interested in joining the Club. Boat owners in the Dunedin Marina, let’s make this one of our best events. Be sure to attend the festivities at the Club House starting at 7 PM.

➢ On April 21, the Blessing of the Fleet by Pastor Becky from the Church of the Good Shepherd. For those boat owners who want to participate, please RSVP by April 17th. Thank you to Chris Benson for being the host for this event.

➢ The weekend of April 28 & 29nd is the cruise to Gulfport. Be sure to check the website for details from Cruising Chair Manny Farinas

I want to thank Rear Commodore Kenny Caryle for finding some very nice fiberglass dock boxes to replace the plasic storage bins that store the Race Committee equipment and thanks to the Building Committee Chair Rusty Anderson and crew for cleaning them up and getting a fresh coat of paint on them.

Commodore’s Corner ContinuedThe Board has had several requests for use of the Club House for private events. The Club House is reserved for use by Board/Bridge for approved events and meetings. These approved events and meetings are reflected on the DBC Calendar. Below is the current DEC policy on use of the Club House for an informal gathering – not an official DBC event by DBC members. Remember, the Club House is available for, and shared by all DBC members when not reserved for an approval event or meeting.

An informal gathering shall consist of no more than eight (8) persons per membership (single or family) including the member. Any type of gathering, formal or informal,

withmore than ten (10) attendees, must have approval from the Board/Bridge.

Be safe and enjoy life!

Vice Commodore…

Manny Farnias will be giving a program on Cruising for our April meeting.

Manny and Mary Ellen are probably one of the few couple in the club that have

built their own 38 foot steel boat and lived on it. They are accomplished

sailors and know their way around boats and cruising… Plan on a good and

informative meeting in April at the Club House with Manny and cruising.

May’s meeting will be equally informative. James McKeever and Grant Painter

will give you the full details of their adventure bringing James and Cameron’s

new boat from the snow bound north to sunny Florida. This should be

another great adventure tale of the high seas told by members of the Dunedin

Boat Club. Be early and get a good seat!

Race Committee…The winter Gulf Series are over, with Tom Kennedy in first place so far, followed by

Mike Baier and David Austin. The DBC Gulf races will continue in the fall with three

more races.

In the meantime, Dunedin Boat Club members are competing in the Gulf regions races

of Pussers Rum Cup and Race Week taking place in April.

Friday evening bay races will begin Friday, May 11th at 6:45 pm at high tide right outside

the clubhouse.

Big boats, get crew together and come out for a few hours of racing in the cool evening

breezes followed by dessert back at the clubhouse.

Sign up on the website. Skippers and crew,

don’t forget to check the area of the members section where

there is a list of skippers looking for crew and crew looking

for a skipper who needs crew.

We want everyone to get on the water who wants to do so!! These races are also a good time for people to get experience being part of the race committee. The races are being run right at the dock with no need for a committee boat. I will be calling people who have their names on the list for potential race committee positions.

Blessing of the FleetBlessing of the Fleet 2018RSVP by Tuesday, April 17

This year’s Blessing of the Fleet will begin promptly at 9:30 am, Saturday April 21 with Pastor Becky from the Church of the Good Sheperd officiating.

Following the blessing of the boats, there will be a blessing of the Club House and DBC members as well as a memorial tribute to members that passed away during 2017.

All members are invited to participate in the blessing and fellowship.

We will have a brunch afterward with the Club providing sandwich fixings and beverages. Everyone is asked to bring a side dish or dessert to share.

If your boat is docked elsewhere, it is your responsibility to make arrangements with the Harbor master for temporary mooring.

Last year Pastor Becky performed virtual blessings for those out at sea or moored elsewhere. To receive a virtual blessing come to the Club with a picture of your boat or if you cannot attend send me a picture.

If you would like to have your boat blessed, please send me your name, the name of your boat, and your slip number. If you are moored in the Dunedin Marina and are unable to attend please send me the information listed above and we will make sure your boat is blessed.

Volunteers are needed to pick up and escort Pastor Becky, help set up and clean up. Let me know if you are interested. This would be a great opportunity for potential and new members.

Please RSVP to [email protected] or text me at 727-204-6357 no later than Tuesday, April 17 for the blessing and/or the brunch.

Hope to see you there! This event will take place rain or shine!

Building Committee…

The building committee has been very busy the past month. Rear

Commodore Ken Carlyle and several members have been restoring three

dock boxes to use for storage outside the clubhouse. Two will be used to

store sailing committee equipment and the last will provide safer storage

for flammable items previously stored in the clubhouse attic.

The next Boat Club wide Clubhouse work day will be Saturday, May 12,

at 9:00 AM. This is a wonderful opportunity for new and prospective

members to become acquainted with other Club members and to

perform some volunteer work. If you are sponsoring a prospective

member, please let them know of this great opportunity. Specific info as

to what we hope to accomplish will be announced in a Club email blast

prior to the work day.

We have a much loved Club House. Let’s keep it safe and sparkling!
