Discover why Fan Bay was such an important fortification and relive the stories of the defences now lost. Enjoy an informal walk where an expert will bring history to life, using rarely seen photographs. From 10.30am to 3pm. Costs £5. Parking at the White Cliffs Visitor Centre. SAMPHIRE HOE: ‘Discovering The Cataclysmic Cliff Fall’ on Sunday at 2pm at the site management office. Come along and discover how the February 2014 dramatic cliff falls occurred and the effect it has had on the landscape and wildlife. Suggested donation £2. QUIZ NIGHT: The youth club is holding a quiz night on Saturday, September 27 in the school hall, 7pm start, teams of six - adults £3, kids £1.50. Bring your own refreshments, raffle with lots of prizes. This is our main annual fundraiser, please come and support us. FARMERS’ MARKET: Recently, due to a mixture of illness, holidays and other problems for the stall holders, the stalls have been a little thin on the ground. Unfortunately, due to lack of sales we have lost Handmade by Hannah, Real Deal Roasters and The Real Pasta Company. We do hope things will start picking up very soon, as we are seeking new stalls for our customers. We are pleased to say that we have found a new cake stall for you, as Sheila’s Cakes had to pull out due to Jimmy’s ill health. Barbara’s Cakes, has been doing very well and has settled in nicely. Sandgate Bakery is still awaiting a replacement bakery venue, which we hope will happen very soon, and in the meantime will be returning with his other than bread products. We have a temporary baker filling in for him, The Cottage Loaf, just until he is up and A TEENAGER has scooped a £50,000 prize for his brilliant business idea in the Young Start- up Talent for East Kent competition. Cameron Smith, 18, was named the winner at a showcase final at the Gulbenkian Theatre in Canterbury on Wednesday. Cameron, a student at Ramsgate’s Chatham and Clarendon Grammar School, created a business called Made to Measure, aimed at providing a reliable and personal cleaning experience with those who own second homes. The showcase was hosted by founders Lorraine Nugent and Matt Turner, with guest speakers including Pete Kenyon of Cripps, Bob Heapy of Town and Country Housing Group, Mairi Coyle from the Gulbenkian Theatre alongside two previous winners – Sam French of Sam’s Kitchen and Eden Tiltman of Bales Care Agency. Cameron said: “I’m feeling ecstatic! It’s been hard work but even if I hadn’t won, the experience has been amazing. I’m so pleased!” Chief executive of Town and Country Housing, Bob Heapy, added: “A fantastic process and it’s a great initiative to be involved in. We are proud to be the lead sponsor and it’s brilliant to see the impact it’s having.” Pete Kenyon – partner at Cripps said: “Hugely important for Cripps to have been part of such a special organisation, I definitely feel it is making a difference to the lives of the young people involved.” Judge Tracy Newton commercial director for Local World south east newspapers, including the Isle of Thanet Gazette, and Times series, added: “It’s the first time I have been involved in the process, I thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish. It’s great to see the amount of talent we have in East Kent and the entrepreneurial flair, passion and enthusiasm each finalist has brought to the process. Looking forward to next year!”. Young Start-up Talent has run workshops across the East Kent region since November last year in its search for the next set of entrepreneurs who want to start their own business. Her first product is a fairy cupcake which was seen in the Young Start-up Talent Final. Valeriia Reznik, 18 Valeriia’s business is called HealthyMe and brings a creative new approach to audiences both young and old, with her first product introducing them to green tea. Her new concept is set to highlight the benefits by using a series of inventive methods as well as a board game. William Ward, 23 William is a graduate from the University of Kent. William has a business called Imerzo and is hoping to adapt in-flight entertainment, updating current systems to make them more viable, intelligent and intuitive for future users. In what is a very fast-paced industry, this concept could be the next big project in the aeronautical industry. Sammy Ali, 18 Sammy, from Margate, developed a concept called Infusion Weddings, designed to help couples through the planning stages of a wedding, in a stress-free environment from the comfort of their own homes.
