If you are seeking to focus on bookkeeping and accounting in order take a more specialized approach to your career, thenconsider the Financial Option Certificate. The Special Education Teacher Assistant program prepares stu-dents for a variety of careers in schools, institutions and otherworkplace settings. SETA’s provide support in training and/oreducation involving basic life skills support and academic sup-port in subjects requiring an understanding of the course cur-riculum content and learning concepts. SETA’s assist classroomteachers in the implementation of behaviour programs. Per-sonal care assistance may be required. Classes are scheduled forevenings and Saturdays, but students must also be available fortwo days of observation in a school setting early in the programand a three-week practicum placement in a school arranged byRMC. Application for admission is required. Program duration:minimum 450 hours, including practicum (completed withinone-year).

Admission PolicyStudents must meet the specific require-ments for each program of study. Stu-dents are responsible for ensuring thereare no conflicts in their timetable at thetime of registration. Book and coursefees must be paid at the time of registra-tion. Full programs include optional workexperience unit upon completion. Finan-cial assistance may be available for eligi-ble students. Dispute ResolutionConcerns about grades or instructionalmatters should be expressed, preferablyin writing, to the instructor involved. Ifthe matter is not resolved, it should beaddressed to the program manager. Non-instructional concerns should be ad-dressed directly to the program managerfor implementation of dispute resolutionprocedure. Where a resolution cannot befound, concerns should be addressed inwriting to the Manager of Ridge Mead-ows College, detailing the student’s in-terpretation of the situation andsuggested remedy. The Manager willmeet with the student to try and resolveany issues. If the student wishes to ap-peal the decision, written statementsfrom the student and the CEO will besubmitted within 10 days. An appealhearing involving all parties will be set upwithin 5 days. The institution’s policies onadmissions, rules of conduct, dispute res-olution and dismissal are available at theschool and administration office.

Course ChallengeShould you wish to challenge a course forcareer upgrading in one of the certificateprograms, call our office and make anappointment. The challenge fee is $40.00(non-refundable) and covers administra-tion of the test and assessment. Shouldyou be unsuccessful in the results of thetest, you may register for the course andapply the $40.00 to the course fee. Somecourses are not challengeable; however,application for transfer credit from rec-ognized institutions may be an option.Time restrictions apply. Application fortransfer credit fee of $40.00/course isnon-refundable. There is a 70% residencyrequirement for all certificate programs.
