Royal College of Surgeons of EnglandThe following Hunterian lectures are to be given at the
college, Lincoln’s Inn Fields, London, W.C.2 : on Tuesday,April 19, Mr. John Foster will speak on current methods oftreatment of idiopathic stricture of the valve of Krause ; onThursday, April 21, Mr. Norman Barrett will speak on primarytumours of rib ; and on Thursday, April 28, Dr. W. T. Cookewill speak on nutritional and metabolic factors in the aetiologyand treatment of regional ileitis. All the lectures will be heldat 5 P.M.
Royal College of Physicians of EdinburghKirk Duncanson Fellowship for Medical Research.-The
council of the college is shortly to make an award for thisfellowship (E600 for two years to begin on Oct. 1). Applica-tions must be sent before May 7 to the secretary of the college,9, Queen Street, Edinburgh, 2.Christian Medical Fellowship
This fellowship is to hold house-parties for doctors and theirfamilies from May 6 to 9 at Windermere, and from May 20to 23 at Bournemouth. Further particulars may be had fromthe secretary, 39, Bedford Square, London, W.C.I.

Health Education Summer SchoolThe summer school for 1955 organised by the Central
Council for Health Education will be held at Bangor, NorthWales, from Aug. 16 to 26. The theme will be Opportunitiesand Methods in Health Education. Applications should besent to the medical director of the council, Tavistock House,London, W.C.1.
Orthopaedics in ScotlandSince the Scottish Orthopaedic Council was set up in 1942
it has distributed on behalf of the Lord Nuffield Fund for
Cripples over E24,000 to orthopaedic clinics, educationalestablishments for cripple children, and other aids to cripplesin Scotland. In addition the Nuffield trustees have madegrants of £26,500 for hospital developments at Philipshill,Busby, and Princess Margaret Rose Hospital in Edinburgh.The council has now agreed to dissolve since " orthopaedicservices were now firmly established in all five regions ofScotland, and therefore the work for which the Council hadbeen formed had been accomplished." As part of the windingup process the Nuffield trustees have agreed with the councilto allocate £15,000 for the erection of occupational therapyand workshop departments at the proposed spinal-injuriesunit at Edenhall, Musselburgh, and to make a grant of £2000towards the extension of the residential training establishmentfor severely handicapped girls at Anton House, BroughtyFerry.
Doctors and the PressAt an exploratory meeting between representatives of the
Press organisations and the medical profession, held at BritishMedical Association House on March 29, it was decided to setup a committee to examine the relations between the Pressand the medical profession, and to formulate proposals forfurther consideration. The following doctors were appointedto the committee : Dr. H. Guy Dain, Sir Harold Boldero,Dr. R. Forbes, Dr. F. Gray, Dr. J. G. M. Hamilton, Mr. J. R.Nicholson-Lailey, Dr. A. Talbot Rogers, and Dr. W. Woolley.The first meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 27.
