Past experiences with EGS4

• We used EGS4 extensively to study and estimate the radiation dose levels for the HF detector. Compared simulations with the test results.

Fe-Matrix I and II

We irradiated two Fe matrices with 500MeV electrons at CERN to study the dose and activation levels and compared the results with EGS4 simulations

Study of HE w/ Quartz Plates

A very high radiation dose (damage) expected on HE scintillators over a period of 10 years of LHC operation.

Can we replace scintillators w/ (Radiation Hard) Quartz Plates?

We use GEANT4 to study the performance and the properties of such a detector.

HE w/ Quartz Plates

•A matrix of 3x3 towers with alternating 4.5 mm Cu and 0.5 mm Quartz plates constructed. (30cm x 30cm x 100 cm)

•Detector geometry optimization.

•Read-out studies.
