DESIGN & FABRICATION OF VERTICAL LIFT MECHANISM

abstractThis project is used to operate the bridge with its Vertical Lift Mechanism, its middle (movable) part lifts to give way to the ship passing by thus maintaining the water way transport.

methodologyThe Bridge mechanism has been divided in three sections. The central section lifts above , while the two side parts remain intact with the supporting angles. The lift mechanism used for the bridge is based on the pulley systeminvolving three pulleys. A string is passed through the two pulleys on eitherside of middle section and the pulley at the centre synchronizes the motion oftwo pulleys and makes the motion centralized.

EXISTING METHODThe railway bridge (pamban) is the cantilever bridge on the palk strait which connects the two places (town &island) . A conventional bridge resting on concrete piers (143 piers) with its DOUBLE LEAF BASCULE SECTION in the midway. & the center span is scherzer rolling type lift span .

PROPOSED METHODThe cantilever bridge which connects the two places. A conventional bridge resting on concrete but it has single section which moves in vertical direction with the help of vertical lifting mechanism.
