There are many types of dances, I will be discussing the following two.

Kathak Dance Kathak is the major classical
dance form of northern India. The word kathak means "to tell a
story". Both men and women perform
Kathak which is also used to present dance dramas of historical tales and contemporary events.
In Kathak dance the dancers emphasis is more on footwork.

Musical Instruments
There are lots of different kinds of instruments used in playing music for the Kathak dance; such as Babsuri, Dilruba, Harmonium, sitar, tabla, tanpura, Ghungharu.
Kuchipudi Dance
Kuchipudi is the classical dance form from South-East India. It means dancing with a story.It derives its name from the village of Kuchelapuram.in this dance, both men and women can perform it like the Kathak dance. In the past, sometimes the female roles were played by men, because women were not allow to participate in this dance.
Kuchipudi Dance Continued
The technique of Kuchipudi makes use of fast rhythmic footwork and sculpture-like body movements. Stylized mime, hand gestures, and facial expressions are the most important strategies.
Musical Instruments During the Kuchipudi dance performance the artists use the same instruments that musicians use during the Kathak dance. But there are some other instruments that are only used in Kuchipudi; these include Mridangam, Violin, Surpeti,Kanjira, and Manjira.
Folk DanceFolk dance is performed during many occasions that include celebrating the different seasons, birth of children, weddings and festivals.
Folk Dance Continued Some dances are performed separately by men and women while in some performances men and women dance together.
