Bid Writing & Management

Successful bid document production is a vital part of a business offering services  business to business or to Government. As a bid / proposals / technical writer, I work with the project delivery team to find the best strategy for the organisation to gain new or repeat business with its clients.

As part of the process I can manage multiple resources and complex business relationships in order to obtain the information required to build the sales case.

04

As a specialist in authoring and presentation i then communicate the benefits of the company / organisation in order to achieve high rankings within the tender process, or influence decision makers.

The banner below illustrates just a small cross section of the organisations to which I have delivered successful tender responses within the past five years.

» Determination of client requirements » Project management skills to plan the approach & content » Utilisation & management of resources to build the content » Writing, editorial & presentation skills to communicate the sales case

As a Bid Manager, I get the job done, and do it in the easiest, least stressful way

I understand the practical advantages of taking the reader’s needs seriously. I also recognise the importance of aligning the intention of a document with the interpretation of the reader.

With this knowledge, and the awareness of peoples different thinking patterns, I can create documents that engage the reader’s thinking and feeling.

Lucent Technologies is an international provider of network management services for voice, data and video networks. I joined what was International Network Services (INS), a well known consultancy practice that had been acquired by Lucent. After producing high scoring marks in a four stage aptitude test, I was offered a training post at Bell Labs.

After three months intensive training at Lucent’s own Learning Centre in Bracknell I had gained the basic skills that I would require to produce high quality client facing company documentation. Whilst training to become a Lucent Network Project Manager I was allocated to various projects across the UK. I would study hardware documentation and tender requirements to produce technical reports detailing network and office equipment installations.

Notable assignments included the Atlantis Manchester Commonwealth Games network and the Cable and Wireless UK DSL rollout. In both projects I was to prepare the client documentation for the handover including the technical configurations and operational information of all deployed equipment in the network. Reports would be produced by the commercial team in Lucent’s own standard tabular, diagrammatic and written formats. The role required me to act as part of a team of technical consultants winning contracts in the I.T. industry.

An investigative approach with frequent client and colleague liaisons to understand task requirements and gain technical and commercial input was essential. CEMEX also made full use of my previous IT training skills in rolling out a national database for customer relations management (CRM) as well as assisting with the development process.

Working as a self employed contractor for CEMEX UK Construction Services (CCS) specifically responsible for technical writing and compilation of client facing documentation.
