India, Croatia to collaborate for academic research and competency

building in traditional medicine systems

• Paving the way for academic collaboration in

India’s traditional medicine systems,

especially in the field of Ayurveda, between

the two countries, the Ministry of Ayush

entered into an agreement with Croatia

• The Memorandum of Understanding was

signed between All India Institute of

Ayurveda (AIIA) and Croatia’s Kvarner Health

Tourism Cluster. AIIA is an autonomous body

under the Ministry of Ayush.

• Also Recently , All India Institute of Ayurveda of Ministry of Ayush has signed a Memorandum of

Understanding with NICM Western Sydney University Australia to appoint an Academic Chair in

Ayurveda.

Newly discovered gecko species named after Jackie Chan

• The newly found species of gecko in the

Western Ghats was named after Jackie Chan as

a tribute for his agility.

• The researchers named the one of the twelve

new species of geckos after Jackie Chan as

Cnemaspis jackieii or Jackie’s Day Gecko, for its

ability to move rapidly and sneak into the

smallest crevices to escape from the predator.

• Common name – Jackie’s Day Gecko

Banking And Financial News

Credit Guarantee Scheme for Subordinate Debt (CGSSD) extended

upto March 3, 2022

• The Central Government of India extended the ‘Credit Guarantee Scheme for Subordinate Debt’ by another 6 months till March 31, 2022 from September 30, 2021.

• CGSSD was approved by GoI on June 1, 2020 and was launched on June 24, 2020. It was on the lines of the creation of ‘Distressed Assets Fund- Subordinate Debt for Stressed MSMEs’

• It provides credit facility through lending institutions to the promoters of stressed MSMEs (Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises) viz. SMA (special mention accounts)-2 and NPA accounts.

NABARD Sanctioned Rs 303 Crore to Odisha for Bridge Construction

• National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development sanctioned assistance of Rs 303 crore under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund to the Government of Odisha for the construction of 24 bridges in the state.

• So far, NABARD has sanctioned around Rs 1,796 crore under the RIDF 2021-22. National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development :

15.27% stake in PNB MetLife India Insurance Company Limited from IGE (India) Private Limited and Elpro International Limited for a cash consideration of Rs 1906 crore. Metlife International Holdings will acquire the stakes owned by

First UN World Cotton Day – 7th October 2021

• 7th October 2021 marks the observance of the first ever official United Nations(UN) World Cotton Day.

• According to the International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC), the event theme for 2021 World Cotton Day is ‘Cotton for Good’.

• The initiative of World Cotton Day was born in 2019, when four cotton producers in sub-Saharan Africa– Benin, Burkina Faso, Chad and Mali, known as the Cotton Four -proposed the World Trade Organization a World Cotton Day celebration on October 7.

• During 2 consecutive years, the date offered an opportunity to share knowledge and showcase cotton-related activities.
