CURRENT AFFAIRS: NATIONAL NEWS

APEDA inks MoU with NAFED for strengthening export l inkage of Farmer Cooperatives & FPOs

• For harnessing exports potential of agricultural and processed food products of cooperatives as well Farmer Producer

Organizations (FPOs), the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) today

signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd

(NAFED).

• The MoU was signed by Dr. M. Angamuthu, Chairman APEDA and Mr. Sanjeev Kumar Chadha, Managing Director,

NAFED.

• At present, NAFED is creating a network of honey FPOs across Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan,

Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. Around 65 FPOs will be part of honey corridor linking north-west to north-eastern

regions. NAFED is aiming at bringing all the FPOs associated with honey production for creating requisite infrastructure

under the National Beekeeping and Honey Mission.

Center of Excellence for Research & Analysis of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances of the National

Forensic Science University

• The Union Home Minister, Shri Amit Shah inaugurated the newly built Center of Excellence for Research & Analysis of

Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances of the National Forensic Science University in Ahmedabad.

CPWD celebrates i ts 167th Annual Day

• Central Public Works Department celebrated 167th year of its glorious service to the nation on July 12, 2021.

• During the inaugural function, four technical publications, CPWD Floral Tableaux : A Treasure Collection, ERP e -

Modules, NirmanBharati – in house publication of CPWD and CPWD Telephone Directory 2021 was released

India and Nepal sign MoU on 679 MW Arun Hydro Electric Project to SJVN

• A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed for execution of 679 MW Lower Arun Hydro Electric Project in

Nepal between Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN) Central Public Sector Enterprise under Ministry of Power, Government of

India & Investment Board of Nepal (IBN) in Kathmandu Nepal.

• The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by (SJVNL) Chairman and Managing Director Shri Nand Lal

Sharma and IBN Chief Executive Officer Shri Sushil Bhatta in the benign presence of Deputy Prime Minister of Nepal,

Shri Bishnu Prasad Paudel and Ambassador of India to Nepal, Shri Vinay Mohan Kwatra.

• The Lower Arun Hydro Electric Project is located in Sankhuwasabha and Bhojpur Districts of Nepal.

• This is the second project awarded to SJVN in Nepal, the first one being the 900 MW Arun 3 Hydro Electric Project in

Sankhuwasabha District. Arun-3 Project is being implemented through wholly owned subsidiary company of SJVN i.e.

SJVN Arun-3 Power Development Company Limited (SAPDC) incorporated in Nepal. SJVN Limited was allotted even

this project through international competitive bidding by Government of Nepal on Build Own Operate and Transfer

(BOOT) Basis with a concession period of 25 years excluding 5 years of construction time.

Finance Minister Smt Nirmala Sitharaman and Finance Minister of Bhutan Mr Lyonpo Namgay Tshering

jointly launch BHIM–UPI in Bhutan

• Union Minister of Finance & Corporate Affairs Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, along with her counterpart, the Hon’ble Finance

Minister of Bhutan, Mr Lyonpo Namgay Tshering, jointly launched BHIM–UPI in Bhutan

• India and Bhutan have already enabled inter-operability in acceptance of Rupay cards in each other’s countries in two

phases – acceptance of Rupay cards issued in India at Bhutan based terminals in the first phase, and vice versa in the

second phase.

• Bhutan is the first country to adopt UPI standards for its QR deployment, and the first country in our immediate

neighborhood to accept mobile based payments through the BHIM App.

MoU signed between ICCR & Delhi University to set up Bangabandhu Chair

• A MoU was signed between the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and Delhi University in Dhaka to set up this

Chair at Delhi University.

• President of ICCR Vinay Sahasrabuddhe said that this chair was the celebration of the commonality of the world view

between Indian and Bangladesh as both countries stand for peace, tranquility, equal respect for all belief systems and

democracy.

• Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) has established the ‘Bangabandhu Chair’ at Delhi University to honour

‘Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’, the father of Bangladesh and to commemorate the 50th anniversary of t he

Bangladesh Liberation War and Indo-Bangladesh diplomatic relations.

• The Chair will be occupied by a foreign visiting professor or subject expert on Bangladesh preferably a person of that

country’s origin.

• The Chair will focus on the common heritage of the two countries and subjects like Anthropology, Buddhist Studies,

Geography, and History, Modern Indian languages including Bangla, Music, Fine Arts, Political Science, International

relations and Sociology.

• The Union government conferred Gandhi Peace Prize to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, for the year 2020 and

the Government of Bangladesh has declared the year 2020-21 as the Mujib Year.

NTPC to set up India’s single largest solar park at Rann of Kutch

• NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd, a 100% subsidiary of NTPC, has received the go-ahead from Ministry of New and

Renewable Energy (MNRE) to set up 4750 MW renewable energy park at Rann of Kutch in Khavada, Gujarat. This will

be India’s largest solar park to be built by the largest power producer of the country.

• NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd (NTPC REL), has been given the go-ahead by MNRE under Mode 8 (Ultra Mega

Renewable Energy Power Park) of Solar Park Scheme. NTPC REL has plans to generate green hydrogen on a

commercial scale from this park.

• As a part of its green energy portfolio augmentation, NTPC Ltd, India’s largest energy integrated company aims to build

60 GW Renewable Energy Capacity by 2032. Currently, the state owned power major has an installed capacity of 66

GW across 70 power projects with an additional 18 GW under construction.

• Recently, NTPC has also commissioned India’s largest Floating Solar of 10 MW (ac) on the reservoir of Simhadri

Thermal Power Plant, Andhra Pradesh. An additional 15 MW (ac) would be commissioned by August 2021.

• Further, a 100 MW Floating Solar Project on the reservoir of Ramagundam Thermal Power Plant, Telangana is in the

advanced stage of implementation.

• Additionally, NTPC RE Ltd. has recently signed a MoU with UT, Ladakh and Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development

Council (LAHDC) for the generation of green hydrogen and deployment on FCEV buses. The signing of the MoU was

also marked with the inauguration of NTPC’s first solar installations in Leh in form of solar trees and a solar car port.

‘mySrinagar’ Mobile App

• The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, launched ‘mySrinagar’ mobile app to cater the needs of

residents and tourists by integrating all available e-services offered by various departments and tourism- related

information in both offline and online modes.

• He also e-inaugurated multiple projects of Srinagar Smart City including Variable Message Displays installed across the

city, and dedicated the new surface car parking

• More than 40 services from various line departments including 20 Srinagar Municipal Services are being offered through

the app.

RBI Approved Equitas SFB

• Reserve Bank of India approved the Equitas Small Finance Bank to apply for the amalgamation of its promoter ‘Equitas

Holdings’ into itself.

• As per the RBI’s SFB licensing guidelines, the promoter of SFB should exit or cease to be a promoter after a lock -in

period of 5 years.

• In the case of Equitas SFB, the initial promoter lock-in period for Equitas Holdings expires on September 4, 2021, hence

the Equitas SFB requested RBI for amalgamation of its promoter before completion of the lock - in period.

• The promoter of SFB should also have a minimum of 40 percent of the paid-up voting equity capital of the bank.

Exim Bank Lent $35.26 mn Loan to Kalpataru Power Transmission

• The Export-Import (Exim) Bank of India has extended a USD 35.26 million loan for Kalpataru Power Transmis sion Ltd to

execute a power transmission project in Senegal.

• The Credit facility was extended under the National Export Insurance Account (NEIA) scheme.

• The bank has also provided a credit facility of USD 200 million for KPTL under NEIA to support the construction of a

225kV transmission line for the Tambacounda – Kolda – Ziguinchor link in Senegal.

• NEIA is a scheme that has been set up by the Government of India to facilitate medium and long-term exports, due to

the limitations of the Export Credit Guarantee Corporation of India (ECGC) Limited in providing adequate cover on its

own.

Indian stem cell & developmental biologist part of WHO advisory committee on human genome editing

• Indian stem cell and developmental biologist Prof. Maneesha S Inamdar has been part of the WHO Expert Advisory

Committee on Developing Global Standards for Governance and Oversight of Human Genome Editing, which released

two new companion reports providing the first global recommendations to help ensure that human genome editing is

used for public health, with an emphasis on safety, effectiveness, and ethics.

• The reports, released on July 12, 2021, contained a forward-looking Governance Framework for oversight mechanisms

for research into and potential application of human genome editing technology at institutional, national, regional and

international levels.

• Professor Maneesha S Inamdar, along with her group, is conducting research at the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for

Advanced Scientific Research, Bengaluru, an autonomous Institute of the Department of Sc ience and Technology (DST)

that uses gene-editing tools to manipulate stem cells in vitro.

• US based private Spaceflight company ‘Virgin Galactic’ announced the 6-member crew of its human commercial space

mission “Unity 22”. The crew includes Richard Branson – the founder of Virgin Galactic as one of its passengers. Indian

India's 1983 World Cup hero Yashpal Sharma passed away

• India's 1983 Cricket World Cup hero Yashpal Sharma passed away at his home.

• In his international career, Yashpal played 37 Tests, scoring 1606 runs, and 42 ODIs in which he made 883. He also

pickedup one wicket each in the two formats to his credit.

He was known for his gutsy attitude and his stroke-filled half century in the semifinal against England in the 1983

campaign at the Old Trafford will forever be etched in the public memory.

centre in the traditional healing system.
