Special Olympics has been a KEY project of the Rotary Club of North Scott for many years. We support the projects in the fall at bowling skills, winter at basketball skills, and spring at the track and field events. Special Olympic is also a Major part of our Community Needs Outreach with a support of $3000 given Annually. This is given through the Birdies for Charities event, which increas- es the amount finally given to this, our favorite charity. See page 2 for sign ups to date. Canadian violinist Naha Greenholtz was born in Kyoto, Japan, where she began her violin studies at age three. Since her solo debut at 14, concerto appearances include engagements with the Vancouver, Madison, Quad City, Burnaby, Kelowna, Na- tional Repertory, and Vancouver Youth symphony orchestras in works ranging from Bach to Stravinsky. Ms. Greenholtz has also had an active career as an or- chestra musician. In addition to her duties as Concertmaster of both the Madison Symphony Orchestra and the Quad City Sym- phony Orchestra, performance highlights include guest concert- master appearances with the Oregon Symphony, Calgary Phil- harmonic, National Ballet of Canada, Omaha Symphony, and Memphis Symphony, among many others. She continues to per- form frequently with the Cleveland Orchestra both at home and abroad, and has also been a member of the Milwaukee Sympho- ny Orchestra. Ms. Greenholtz began her career as Associate Con- certmaster of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra (formerly the New Orleans Symphony), a position she assumed at age 21. Ms. Greenholtz has participated in prominent music fest- vals throughout the US and Europe including Kneisel Hall (Maine), Taos (New Mexico), Spoleto (Italy), Lucerne (Switzerland), and the New York String Orchestra Seminar at Carnegie Hall. She was recently named Artistic Director of Davenport, Iowa’s acclaimed Signature Series, a chamber music festival dedicated to bringing world class perfor- mances to the Davenport metro area. In 2010-2011, she was the sole participant in the prestigious Concertmaster Academy at the Cleveland Institute of Music, a mentoring fellowship with William Preu- cil. Ms. Greenholtz received her BM from Juilliard, where her primary teachers were Joel Smirnoff and Donald Weilerstein. Other teachers have included Andrew Dawes and Ju- dith Ingolfsson. Special Olympics Basketball Skills at North Scott High School Gym

Sixty members and guests a,ended on Friday, to hear Franz sing and play his accordion. Franz plays a lot of

German style songs with Sam Morrison, who was unable to a,end, due to an opportunity he had in Chicago.

Rotarian guests were: Marcy Bell from the Rock Island club and Dave Borcheding from Iowa Q.C. club. Other

guests were Tracey Kuehl, Henry Storjohann, guest of Jack Schinckel and Josh Cobie, guest of Rob White. Also

Junior Rotarians from Davenport North and Assump>on.

Steve Suiter reported that Walter Bredbeck has moved into an assisted living apartment and doing a lot be,er

for the >me being. Members were encouraged to sign up for the Special Olympics, Valen>ne party and read-

ing at John Glenn and Fillmore Elementary Schools. Keith Ma,ke will be celebra>ng his 82nd

birthday later this

month and gave $82 to the educa>on fund. Brad Burt was the sergeant and collected $30 in fines.
