Walter and Lois Curtis Middle School
Curtis PTA Newsletter Issue 5/2016-2017 November 3, 2016
Principal’s PostCougar Parents,
Your students continue to work hard and do a great
job here at school. We had a great pep rally last
Friday and are so proud that all of our
students, 1250+, kids stood and were quiet during
the singing of our national anthem by the choir. It’s
hard to describe or explain the immense feeling of
pride when you see that many kids being respectful
of each other and of our country the way ours
were! Truly a goose-bump kind of moment!
We do have benchmark testing next week. These
tests will be given during the regular class period
and will help teachers get data on how students are
retaining the TEKS covered so far this year. These
are important data pieces for our teachers, but
nothing for students to stress over or study for.
Have a great week!

PTSA Winter Spirit Wear Fundraiser
Our PTSA has begun it’s Winter Spirit Wear Fundraiser. For this fundraiser, we are
using Moonlight Threads to provide a great variety of shirts, jackets, and hats for us.
The order form is attached to this newsletter. You can order the Curtis Wear online
at www.moonlightthreads.com or by printing out the form and turning it in to the front
office.
As an added bonus, we also have the opportunity to purchase Eagle Wear. For
those of you with 8th graders who will become Freshman Eagles next year, this
would make a great holiday gift. In order for the PTSA to get credit for this spirit
wear you do have to turn in a paper form to the front office.
Orders are due to the front office by Friday, November 18th at noon. Any orders
received by 11/18 at noon, will be completed and passed out to students before
Winter Break.
If you want the Spirit Wear to be a surprise Holiday Gift, please write that on the form
and we will be sure to contact you to arrange pick up of it.
Any orders dropped off after 12pm on 11/18, will not be guaranteed for delivery by
12/16.
If you have any questions, please contact
Kathi Bingham at [email protected] or Terri Magness at [email protected].

Help Wanted!
The Curtis PTSA is looking for someone to be the Curtis
Representative/Coordinator for this year’s Allen Eagle Run. The next meeting
for the coordinators is Nov. 15th, at 9:30am. The job includes advertising the
run through the school newsletter, working with the Principal and PE Coach
to get the school excited about participating in the run, going to a few planning
meetings, and entering the paper entries into a data base. This is a short term
commitment, as the race is Saturday, February 25, 2017. If you would like to
help out, please contact Kathi Bingham at [email protected].

On November 14th
, your 8th
grade student will be given the opportunity to hear a powerful,
live representation by AIM FOR SUCCESS, INC. encouraging sexual abstinence until
marriage. The presentation is fun, interactive, and never embarrassing. Thousands of
teenagers have been challenged through this program to AIM FOR SUCCESS and fulfill
their dreams and goals by building self-control, self-respect, and self-discipline. This program
is FREE for your student thanks to the support of our Curtis PTA. CMS has participated in
the program for several years.
In addition to the student program, we are also presenting a parent preview of the program on
Monday, November 7th
at 6:30 -7:30 PM in the Curtis cafeteria. The parent meeting includes
a preview of the student program so you know firsthand what the students will be seeing. This
program equips parents with the tools and medical information needed to communicate
effectively with their children without embarrassment. Please attend this parent only
presentation to preview what your child will see and to receive some helpful parenting tips!
AIM FOR SUCCESS, a non-profit organization, has received local, state, and national
recognition for the work that they are doing in public schools. The purpose and history of the
AIM FOR SUCCESS program is included or you may visit their website at

Mav’s Man and Champ, the Dallas Mavericks’ mascots came to
Curtis on Monday, Oct 24th. They put on a great show that was
enjoyed by faculty and students alike. They had a great message
about having a strong CORE:
Commitment – to yourself and others to do your best
Organization – be part of an organization that will help and
encourage you to make the right choices
Responsibility – Take responsibility for your actions
Enthusiasm – Be enthusiastic with everything you do, whether in
school or out
Their message was topped off with a great example of Mav’s man
preforming stunts that can only be achieved with a strong CORE.
