Cultural Routeof the Council of Europe

TRANSROMANICA was officially recognizedas a "Major Cultural Route of the Council ofEurope" in August 2007. Together with 32other European Cultural Routes it provides aconcrete demonstration of the fundamentalprinciples of the Council of Europe: humanrights, cultural democracy, cultural diversityand identity, dialogue, mutual exchange andenrichment across boundaries andcenturies.

The Cultural Routes programme was laun-ched by the Council of Europe in 1987. Itsobjective is todemonstrate inavisibleway,bymeans of a journey through space and time,how theheritageof thedifferent countriesandcultures of Europe represent a sharedculturalheritage.

Cultural Route of the Council of EuropeTRANSROMANICA connects the common Romanesque heritage of eightEuropean countries: Germany, Austria, Portugal, Spain, France, Italy,Serbia and Romania. Along the route, you can find the cultural heritage ofthis era. Romanesque style emerged in the late 10th century as a new formofart andarchitecture.Magnificent cathedrals,monasteries, peaceful chur-chesandcastlesheldwitnesses to thismajorEuropeanera. The first Europeformed in theMiddleAges is theorigin of our present EuropeanCommunity.Romanesque isunity indiversity; it is alsoanenchantedworld full of allegoryand regulation, power and imagination, deformationandorder representingthe Medieval period. Romanesque is the Middle Ages. Romanesque isTRANSROMANICA!

TRANSROMANICA is committed topromoting theEuropeanheritageof theRomanesque art and architecture, and develop tourism so as to supportsustainable regional andeconomicdevelopment. TheAssociationstrives topromote its member regions, buildings and sites, and make themaccessible to the public. Through sustainable cultural tourismdevelopmentand a targeted tourism marketing, the conservation of buildings will beachieved.
