Fathers’ Day Stall Last Friday, students in Kindergarten to Year 6 walked to the school residence to purchase a Fathers’ Day gift for their dads, pops and grandfathers. There were coffee mugs, stubby holders, key chains and much more for the students to buy for their loved ones. It was an extremely successful stall with almost all the items selling. Thank you to all the parent helpers who assisted with wrapping the gifts and selling them at the stall. We hope everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable Fathers’ Day!

Emma Campbell, Indi Fahey and Tommy Dunn were

excited for their first Fathers’ Day stall purchases.

Dustin Carr couldn’t wait to give his gift to his dad.

Addie Dawson, Reagan Willis and Jet Tate discuss what

they bought their loved ones.

We’d love to hear from you! Every year our students, staff and parents participate in ‘Tell Them From Me’ surveys. The surveys helps us gather useful information to benefit our school and promote positive change and improvement. The parent survey asks parents and carers a range of questions related to the following drivers of student outcomes:

The survey is anonymous and takes around 15 minutes to complete. Parents with more than one child at the school may choose to complete the survey more than once, if they feel that their children’s experiences differ. Parents will not need usernames or passwords to access the survey. You can access the survey at https://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/c6fdy

Please participate in this survey; we would love to hear your thoughts!

Kind regards, Jade Bell

Wanted….Reading Helpers! This year students in K-2 have been participating in the new home reading program ‘Read to Succeed’. Students have enjoyed taking our new reading books home to share the reading skills they are developing with their families. We are asking for volunteer helpers, whether it is parents, grandparents, aunties, uncles, other family members or just someone with a love of reading, who will be willing to come into one of our infants classes to read the home readers with students. The most suitable time for you to help is between 9.30 - 11.15am, Monday- Friday.

Any support is greatly appreciated. If you could assist, please phone 4832 1213 or call into the school’s administration office.

th September 1:00-2:00pm – Hall

On Wednesday, 19th

I hope that together we can do our best to keep our children safe and protect one another.

If you do not wish for your child to attend this talk for any reason please ‘opt out’ by phoning the school office on 48 321 213. If you require more information contact Mrs Jade Bell by phoning the school office.

Year 5 Overnight Canberra Excursion In Week 5 of Term 4, students from Year 5 will be venturing to Canberra for an overnight visit to experience a range of wonderful and exciting venues. Students will head off from school bright and early in the morning on Thursday 15th November and return in the afternoon of Friday 16

th

November. Students will visit Parliament House, Questacon, National Gallery of Australia, Mt Stromlo Observatory, the Australian Institute of Sport and the Australian War Memorial. All these visits tie in to, and help consolidate, what the students have been and will be learning in the classroom this semester.

The cost of the excursion will be approximately $212 per student. This cost will cover transport to, from and around Canberra for the two days, overnight accommodation, dinner on Thursday night, supper, breakfast and lunch on Friday and all entry and workshop fees to the places we will be visiting.

We are arranging a raffle to reduce the cost for each student. If you have any items such as wood or vouchers that you could contribute to the raffle this would be greatly appreciated. Each student will be given raffle tickets to sell. Money raised from the tickets each student sells will come off their individual excursion cost, so students have the opportunity to significantly reduce the cost of the excursion. The selling of tickets is optional.

We are asking that parents pay $80 by Friday 7th

September with the remaining balance paid by the end of Week 2 Term 4, Friday 26

th October.

If there are any issues with payment please contact the school.

There will be additional medical and equipment notes in the upcoming weeks. …………………………………………………………………

Some Benefits of Regular School Attendance For Students:

The development of skills and attitudes such as self-discipline, punctuality, and being organised will optimise life choices.

Regular attendance leads to making friends and learning how to maintain relationships over a length of time.

Regular attendance leads to learning social skills necessary to live and work with others.

It’s safer at school than on the street.

The more students attend, the more they will learn and the more they will like school.

How many days of school has your child missed this term?

Flying Start This week during Flying Start we participated in

developmental play then read the story “Where the Wild Things Are”. In the book, Max used his imagination to pretend there was a forest growing in his bedroom, which caused the students to become curious and ask inquisitive questions about how was it possible for a forest to grow. Max wore a crown in the story as he was ‘king of all the wild things’ so we made our own crowns and decorated them with jewels and stickers. Flying Start is on again next Monday

from 9.30 until 11am. We hope to see you there!

K-2 Excursion to Canberra Theatre 23/10/18 On Tuesday 23

rd October 2018, students in Kindergarten,

Year 1 and Year 2 will be travelling to Canberra Theatre to

watch the live production of ‘The Gruffalo’. The Gruffalo

is based on the award-winning picture book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler.

Join Mouse on a daring adventure through the deep, dark wood in this magical, musical adaptation of the classic picture book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. Searching for hazelnuts, Mouse meets the cunning Fox, the eccentric old Owl and the party mad Snake. Will the story of the terrifying Gruffalo save Mouse from ending up as dinner for these hungry woodland creatures? After all, there’s no such thing as a Gruffalo – is there?

Students will be leaving school at approximately 9:30am and returning to school by 3pm, in time for normal home time

travel arrangements. Children will need to bring a packed recess and lunch in separate plastic bags clearly labelled with their names. Disposable drink containers are a handy idea on this excursion. We will be eating our packed lunch at Commonwealth Park, on the north side of Lake Burley Griffin.

The total cost for this excursion is $50.00 per child. This includes ticket and bus fare. To assist parents in making the payment for this excursion, a payment plan has been set up:

Stage 2 Excursion to the Gullen Range Wind Farm On Wednesday 5

th September Year 3 and Year 4 students

went on an informative and interesting excursion to the Gullen Range Wind Farm.

3/4 students had some fantastic questions for Simon and Isabelle who showed us around the site. Some questions asked were, “How long does it take to assemble a turbine?”, “How much money is a turbine worth?” and “What are the turbines made of?”

The students displayed excellent behaviour and should be proud of the way they represented Crookwell Public School. Stage 2 would like to thank Matt Skelly for transporting us to the excursion, and to the Gullen Range Wind Farm for covering our costs to and from the venue.

Year 3 learnt a lot while during their visit of Gullen Range Wind Farm. posing for a photo Isabelle and the lead

engineer, Simon.

Year 4 students observe many parts of the wind turbine, including an anemometer, a nacelle and some giant bolts

used to piece the turbine together.

Year 4 asked such amazing questions to the tour leaders and then smiled for the cameras with Simon and Isabelle,

our tour leaders.

The wind turbine is 130m tall from the base

to the tip of the blade. We were lucky enough to observe it changing direction to face the wind.

Simon the engineer spoke to us about the challenges

faced when constructing the wind turbine, using a giant screw to demonstrate its sheer size.

The students discussed air, light, warmth and nutrients as elements needed for our seeds to grow into a healthy plant. Each student placed their pot into our school glasshouse and will help Mrs Willis water the pots each week. Students will be rewarded in November when our pots will be sold at our Garden Lovers Markets raising money for our school. A few pots of lettuce, spinach, tomatoes and cucumbers will be planted in our own vegetable patch for use in our school canteen. President’s message Thank you to everyone that attended this week's P&C meeting, it is a great way to get a better understanding of what goes on behind the scenes at our school.

At the meeting we discussed a way to show all our volunteers throughout the school how we appreciate their time and contributions to our school community. Each time someone volunteers in the school or at a school event their name is recorded either in the sign on book or an event roster. These names will be collected and placed in a barrel. At presentation night, three names will be drawn from the barrel to receive a prize.

There will be a $50 voucher for the uniform shop, one for the canteen and one for general use in the school i.e., excursions, performances.

The Hockey Gala Day at Todkill Park is coming up, Wednesday 26th September; at this stage we don't have any offers of assistance on the day to operate the BBQ/canteen. Please, if you could help let me know. We should only need 3-4 people as the school canteen will be CLOSED that day and people rostered on will instead be asked to attend the Hockey Gala Day.

………………………………………………………………… I am able to help at the Hockey Gala Day. NAME: _____________________________________ CONTACT NUMBER: __________________________ ………………………………………………………………… As we get closer to end of term I am creating the new canteen roster for Term 4. If you are able to help out, that would be wonderful. Please do not feel daunted by the new menu, the system is much the same, main meals are heat and serve and all you need to do is cut up some fruit and salads. It is a great way to get out of the house, socialise and the kids love to see you. Even just one day a term really helps and don't forget to ask extended family if they might be interested. ………………………………………………………………… I, _______________________________, am able to help out in the canteen. □ 1 day a term (Monday Wednesday Friday) please circle. □ 2 days a term (Monday Wednesday Friday) please circle. □ Specific Date ____________________________ □ I can be called on if someone can't make it but would rather not be rostered. CONTACT NUMBER: ______________________________ ………………………………………………………………… Thank you, Kassie Rowe P&C President
