In the Classroom Dancing! Gymnastics! Drama skits! Fashion parades! Whip cracking! My, oh my, the Year 6 students have something incredible to share with Crookwell Public School! Year 6 have been busily creating items for their Talent Quest Fundraiser. They have proven they are confident, creative and resourceful. Most of all they are prepared to entertain the students and teachers of Crookwell Public School. Due to the current restrictions in our school, the Year 6 students will be filming each of their items. The completed video will be shared with the school community during Week 4 of Term 3. Year 6 will partner Forum representatives to offer popcorn for students’ viewing pleasure. Cups of popcorn will be sold for $1 each. Students will be asked to bring a coin donation. After viewing the items, Year 6 performers will visit each classroom, asking for the coins to be placed into the container of the item students enjoyed the most. The money raised from voting will be put towards Year 6 camp costs.

Ben and Lazarus will rap ‘Stressed Out’ by Twenty One

Pilots, on their ‘mad trike’.

Nathan and Jay plan their whip cracking to ‘I am a Country

Boy’.

Abigail, Katie, Alec and Charlotte rehearse the ‘cup song’.

Stirling, Jack, Victa and Ben act out a humorous skit.

Stage 3 STEM Showcase

Congratulations to the amazing Stage 3 students who culminated their term’s learning in a terrific showcase of their wind driven creations. As part of their unit in science, students had to use the engineering process to design, build and test windmills to create enough electricity to power a simple electrical device. Students also had to present their findings in written form. Industry partners who work with the Crookwell Academy of STEM Excellence (CASE) were able to come and admire the finished pieces. Well done to all participating students!

Students test their windmill’s power capacity using a test panel.

Students learnt valuable design and construction principles

while building their windmills.

The blades of the windmill are connected to dynamos which

convert the energy generated into electricity.

Small groups of students presented their research on

posters.

The prize for ‘communication’ was awarded to Poppy

Stephenson, Tegan Allport, Evelyn Dark and Elle Batey.

The ‘creativity’ prize went to Vincent Bill, Victa Woods,

Stirling Inder and Anthony Barber.

The ‘critical thinking’ prize was awarded to Sam Dooley,

Charlie Colley, Joshua Churchill, Thomas Cole, Jack Speer and Billy Speer.

Sianabel Anderson and Emma Robertson show Sam Saville

and Oliver Keith their windmill.

Laura Watson was excited to see and hear about the STEM

project from Ellie Whittington, Sophie Ward and Hannah Hunt.

The Principal’s prize for perseverance went to Erik Skelly,

Skye Garnham, Annabelle Caves, Tyler Smith, Glynn McIlwain and Jay Knight (absent).

Pat Stivala, Jack Haynes, Charles Butler, Liam Garnham and Joe Stephenson took out the ‘collaboration’ prize. Well done

boys!

Last week in Peer Support…

Students discussed the activities they enjoy and why they enjoy doing them by participating in a game aptly named “My Favourite Activity”. Groups then played a humorous game called “Make Me Laugh” where they each asked a question chosen at random and paired it with an answer, also randomly selected. Resulting questions and answers included ‘What does your best friend call you? Worm tails’ and ‘What do you like on your pizza? Fried maggots’.

Thomas Cole, Kai Fowler, Thomas Haywood-Whipp, Poppy Stephenson, Ryann Ross, Halla Price-Jones and Benjamin

Mossfield with their leaders, Josh Churchill and Emma Robertson, playing, ‘Make Me Laugh’.

Stage 2 Child Protection lessons Next term Year 3 and 4 will be participating in mandatory Child Protection lessons in their Personal Development and Health lessons. The topics include recognising and responding to unsafe situations, establishing and maintaining safe and respectful relationships and protection strategies such as No, Go, Tell. These topics can be sensitive and challenging but are crucial in protecting our young people. Your child/ren may come home and want to discuss these topics with you further. If you require further information about these topics please arrange a time to speak with Ms Caffery or Mr Whittington by phoning the school on 48 321 213.

Crystal Brook Lavender Farm Last weekend Miss O’Neill, Mrs Thorpe and Mrs Hayes attended a lovely afternoon tea at the Crystal Brook Lavender farm. The afternoon tea was a lovely gesture from Michael and Judith, the owners, to thank teachers and nurses for their work through the COVID-19 crisis. Our staff were joined by teachers from Laggan Public School, St Marys Primary School, Crookwell High School and nurses from Crookwell District Hospital. We would like to say a huge thankyou to Michael and Judith for their kind thoughts and appreciation. The food was amazing! We hope to see you again soon.

Thank you, Michael and Judith, for the wonderful afternoon

tea.

Make Each Morning Count Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It is well known that children who eat breakfast everyday are more receptive to learning.

Student Emergency Contact Details

Student emergency contact details were sent out with student reports. Please read through the information carefully and return the contact sheet noting any changes to the school office by Friday 31 July.

This is particularly important at the moment as the colder weather is setting in and the chance of having to evacuate the school due to heavy snow or extreme weather increases.

Term 3 Sport- Gymnastics Mr Vaughn Edmonds will be returning to Crookwell Public School, to continue to develop students’ gymnastic abilities. The program will run in a similar fashion to previous years with Mr Edmonds working with the whole school in individual class blocks.

These sessions will be held on Wednesdays for Kindergarten, Year 1, 2, 3 and 4 students and Thursdays for Year 5 and 6 students. This program will be running for the duration of Term 3.

The school will heavily subsidise this program in light of the drought and COVID-19, bringing the cost down from $30.00 per student to $7.00. This will cover your child for the entire 10 week program. The first gymnastics session will be on Wednesday 22nd July for Kindergarten, Year 1, 2, 3 and 4 and Thursday 23rd July for Year 5 and 6 students. Please be aware that your child’s sports day may have changed. Please note: Children are unable to attend this program until their permission note and money have been returned to school.

Please return to the school office by Tuesday 21 July. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Parent/Teacher Interviews It was great to see so many of our families take advantage of the chance to speak with their child’s class teacher at the parent/teacher phone interview sessions. I hope you found the exchange of information that occurs at parent/teacher interviews as valuable as the class teachers did.

It is extremely important, that both parent and teacher have a strong positive relationship and a clear understanding of directions being followed, if a strong and positive, partnership with the child’s education as the central focus is to be established.

If you would like to speak with your child’s teacher but missed the opportunity to book an interview, please feel free to contact the school on 48 321 213 to arrange an alternative appointment date and time.
