Constraints & Smart “Sketching”

Lecture on SketcherIE 1225

R. Lindeke

Getting Started – Tools/Options

Mirrored Pads – The Typical Way!

Mirroring of Solid Features puts sketching plane “in the center” of the object!

Remember: Double Click Icon to Hold it!

Adjust your Constraints – Bad Red!!

Learn These Editing Tools!

2nd Pad – Same Plane – Mirrored to Smaller Distance

Check the “Prompt Line”

When all else Fails – Undo (with history!)

Dimensioning Features – Horizontal Orientation & Size of Hexagon

Constraints: al Carte!

Add a Construction Line to Large Cylinder – for positioning constraint!

Zoom .. Zoom .. Zoom! Makes selections easier

Mirroring from End of the Last “Boss”

Finished Product!

Things to Remember:

Relimitations Commands

Using Constraints (geometric)

Auto-Constraining

Zooming when appropriate

Undo History when in ‘trouble’

Looking at Tutorial 2.3

Looking at the sketch tools, during profiling, you can make straight lines – of known length and direction by “tabbing between fields” in the boxes above”

You can make arcs by clicking one of the “circle ICONS” and dragging the end point or tabbing to the radius entering the value and dragging to an end point

Or … maybe you can drag the endpoints around (like me)

When I tried to follow her instructions using the Sketch Tools Data Fields (which are geometrically live)

– I GOT INTO TROUBLE!

But it is “easy” if you use the tab key to move between fields!

Tools toolbar was hidden when I started!

Right Clicking Sketch 2 Then Click Sketch2.object

Easy to repair and Back!

Elongated Hole was Easy – Just Count the Grid-squares!

If grid is set right – --OR-- make the shape that you want and constraint the distance between the “end arcs” centers!

Over Constrained – In Height!

Magenta (like Red) is Bad – Over Constained!

Clicking “Reference” in Definition Box Iso-Constrains the Feature

Green is Good!

After Constraint Fiddling Around! Now Pad it “Up to Surface” & Reverse Direction
