    There are five Commodity Boards under theDepartment of Commerce. These Boards are tea,coffee, rubber, spices and tobacco.

    There are two boards under the TextileMinistry. These Boards are silk and handlooms &handicraft.

    There is one board- coconut board which is under

    the Ministry of Argo and Rural Industries.

    TEA BOARD The Tea Board of India was established under the

    Ministry of Commerce in 1953 by an Act of the

    Parliament. To implement the governments regulation and

    polices for the overall functioning of the teaindustry.

    Tea Board of India is headed by the Chairmanappointed by the Government of India withHeadquarter at Kolkata.

    FUNCTIONS OF TEA BOARD

    Rendering financial and technical assistance forcultivation, manufacture and marketing of tea.

    To encourage and assist both financially andtechnically the unorganized small growers of thissector.

    Collection and maintenance of Statistical data and

    publication.

    Promoting tea exports.

    Research and Development activities.

    COFFEE BOARD The Coffee Board of India is an autonomous

    body functioning under the Ministry of Commerce

    and Industry, Government of India. Set up under an Act of the Parliament of India in

    1942.

    Head office of the Coffee Board is located in

    Bangalore.

    Central Coffee Research Institute is located inKarnataka.

    FUNCTIONS OF COFFEE BOARD Formulating and implementing programmes and

    projects for growth and development of the coffee

    industry. Promoting coffee consumption in India and

    exports in the international market.

    Carry out necessary steps for the improvement of

    coffee quality.

    Implement development plan programs likereplanting, new planting and quality up gradation.

    RUBBER BOARD The Rubber Board functions under the Ministry of

    Commerce & Industry of the Government of India.

    The Board has a Chairman appointed by the CentralGovernment.

    The Board is headed by a Chairman with headquarters at Kerala.

    FUNCTIONS OF RUBBER BOARD To advise the Central Government on all matters

    relating to the development of the rubber industry,including the import and export of rubber.

    Encouraging scientific, technological andeconomic research.

    Training students in improved methods of

    planting, cultivation, manuring and spraying. Providing of technical advice to rubber grower.

    Collection of statistics from owners of estates,dealers and manufacturers.

    SPICES BOARD The Spices Board functions under the Ministry of

    Commerce.

    The Board is headed by a Chairman with its headoffice at Kochi.

    Responsible for the development of cardamomindustry and promoting the export of all the 52 Spices

    listed in the Spices Board Act, 1986.

    TOBACCO BOARD The Tobacco Board functions under the Ministry

    of Commerce.

    The Board is headed by a Chairman withheadquarter in Andhra Pradesh, and is responsiblefor the development of the tobacco industry.

    FUNCTIONS OF TOBACCO BOARD Regulating the production of tobacco.

    Keeping a constant watch on the Tobacco market

    in India and abroad. Providing useful information to growers, traders

    and manufacturers.

    CENTRAL SILK BOARD The Central Silk Board of India was established

    under the Ministry of Textiles in 1949 for overall

    development of sericulture and silk industry. Head office of the Silk Board is located in

    Bangalore.

    FUNCTIONS OF SILK BOARD To improve productivity in all stages of silk

    production.

    Monitor & evaluate the progress inimplementation of various sericultureprogrammes.

    Conducting survey of the new prospective areas.

    Promote silk export.

    To organise exhibitions, demonstrations,entrepreneurship programme.

    COCONUT BOARD Coconut Board came into existence in 1981, functions

    under the Administrative control of the ministry ofAgriculture and Rural industry.

    Headquarters in Kerala, Karnataka, Bangalore.

    FUNCTIONS OF COCONUT BOARD Imparting technical advice.

    Providing financial assistance.

    Encouraging adoption of modern technologies. Fixing grades & standards for coconut and its product.

    Collecting statistics on coconut and publishing them.

    HANDLOOM & HANDICRAFTS BOARD The All India Handicrafts Board was established in

    1952 under the Ministry Of Textiles.

    Suggest various solutions for improvement anddevelopment in Handicraft Industry.

    Government has decided to develop a trade-marks forhandlooms.
