It has been an exceptional juggle this week for our teachers and support staff, as they have supervised online learning for both students at home and at school with 40% to over 50% attending the school site rather than the 25% model to be implemented in phase one. Our Kindergarten and Year 2 students settled in well to their new classes when attending their day this week. John, our cleaner is doing an amazing job with his 10 hours of continual cyclic enhanced cleaning of indoor and outdoor areas. PLAYGROUND FIXED EQUIPMENT We will open our fixed playground equipment to small groups of students next week. Mr Sky and Mr Shepherd will disinfect the equipment each morning before recess play. LIBRARY AND HOME READER BOOKS If you children have finished reading their books they can return their books to two crates outside the library when they come to the school site. We will open the Library when we begin Phase 2.

THE ROAD TO RETURNING It was delightful to see our students attending school on site on the different days this week and everyone was grateful to catch up with friends and have some exercise and play on our wonderful school grounds. MONDAY’S P & C PYJAMA MEETING We had a productive meeting on Monday evening and have decided that using Zoom while being warm and comfortable in our PJs is a great way to run meetings at the moment. P & C are looking into organising a cash free pie drive with deliveries being made at staggered times to your car. Bronwyn is looking into this and will keep you informed. The Afterschool Care will create herb gardens in our existing beds while the school is not running a vegetable garden program. The P & C account is looking very healthy due to past fund raising and they have donated $10 000 towards our new playground which should be complete early Term 3. P & C and the school are also currently looking into NSW government grants to obtain a filtered water bottle refill station. All P & C members are looking forward to times when we can once again come together as a community and enjoy events such as discos BBQs and movies. BYRON BAY RSL LIFE CARE CENTRE THANK YOU Recently I delivered our Stage 2 and Stage 3 student letters to the centre. We received a lovely email back last week, telling us of the joy the letters brought to their residents who are so isolated at this time. Centre staff will assist the residents to respond to the letters and we begin an exchange of letters every few weeks. They have also requested some artwork to set up a Clunes PS art gallery. Students are welcome to send in artwork they have completed at home. Well done students! How lovely to think you’ve given so much joy to others in difficult times. FAREWELL VIDEO FOR MISS JENNER A BIG HIT! Miss Jenner was very excited to watch our kindergarten student videos last week. She said to say a big thank you and let everyone know she felt very loved!

MEMORY CHAIR RENEWED General Assistant, Andrew Shepherd, sanded back and applied marine varnish to our memory bench last week. It is again renewed to its original condition. Our grounds are looking beautiful as Mr Shepherd has also been working hard on our grounds, trimming, mowing and weeding.

Scholastic Book Club Book Club will continue in Term 2 but in a slightly different format. A virtual catalogue was emailed out to parents and carers earlier in the week. If you did not receive the email the link for the catalogue is

scholastic.com.au/book-club/virtual-catalogue-1/

Orders can be submitted via LOOP; or you can email your order or drop it off to the office on your child’s scheduled day. Payment can be made via this link Make a Payment (this is a link to the school website) or via the NSW Westpac Payment Gateway on Skoolbag.

Life Education Re-scheduled We have tentatively re-scheduled the Life Education visit for August 2020 - fingers crossed that the current restrictions will have eased by this stage so that we can go ahead. More information will be provided closer to the date. Anyone who paid for Life Education earlier in the year will have their funds carried over for this new session.

Out of School Care This week at Clunes OSHC we have finally been able to do some fun activities as we have had children come most every day. We have been trying our hand at knitting using the beany makers and knitting needles. We tried looking for a good ‘how to knit saying’ like the one about the rabbit when you learn to tie your shoe but could not find one. If you know a great ‘how to knit saying’ send it to Clunes OSHC email.

We experimented with a new slime recipe using only shampoo and sugar. It is a simple process and seemed to work ok. We took the experiment one step further and tried to turn the slime into rubber, but it did not turn out well. We love the way our children experiment, and problem solve to create new outcomes.

We also revisited a craft activity that the children made over the April Vacation Care. Marshmallow poppers. In this activity the children must carefully cut out the bottom of a cup. Tie a balloon snip off the top and place the balloon over the end of the cup making a popper/slingshot. They then used their poppers to ‘pop’ marshmallows into their mouths.

We still have spaces for afterschool care. If you would like your children to attend after school care please Call or text us on 0437 362 834 or email us [email protected].
