The day also clearly demonstrated the nurturing bond that has formed between our Kindergarten and their Year 6 buddies. Our Kindergarten students showed amazing confidence as they stood side by side with their buddies and were introduced to our school community. They will enjoy a reading of their personal stories on Thursday afternoon. Anyone who missed out due to being isolated by floods will have the opportunity to have their badges presented and introductions made at the next assembly on Friday 28/2. We had a great turn out and I thank everyone who managed to attend the event and greatly appreciate Federal MP Kevin Hogan and his wife, Karen, who assisted with the presentations. We are thrilled to officially accept the $15 000 grant presented to us by Kevin Hogan. Plans are well underway for the new inclusive and imaginative playground and we hope to have all works finished by June 2020. The P & C will make a significant contribution towards this so please support all fund raisers this year. The school has reserved significant funds to complete the project at an approximate cost of $48 000.

INDUCTION CEREMONY & KINDERGARTEN INTRODUCTION Last week was a wonderful celebration of our many students stepping up to leadership roles. Plans are well underway for the new inclusive and imaginative playground and we

hope to have all works finished by June 2020. The P & C will make a significant contribution towards this so please support all fund raisers this year. The school has reserved significant funds to complete the project at an approximate cost of $48 000.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT Thank you to everyone for their cooperation and quick response when we required students to be taken home from school due to potential flood isolation. Although we have many students who live on the Clunes hills, we have many staff who live elsewhere and are quickly cut off by flooded roads. We have certainly experienced extremes in weather and our school community has been fantastic in responding to each challenge with a positive and resilient attitude. K/1/2 ON BUSES Miss Jenner organised K,1,2’s bus trip to learn about safe and respectful bus travel. We thank Pat of Bulzomi Buses who provides this program opportunity each year. LITERACY AND NUMERACY Teachers have committed to both our literacy and numeracy targets this year. Writing samples focusing on spelling, sentence structure and grammar and punctuation are being collected every five weeks. Students are receiving feedback from their teachers and understand how they can improve their writing and what is expected of them. Students should be able to articulate this to their parents during the Student Led Conferences being held later this term. Teachers are also working solidly on creating and implementing a new improved way of teaching mathematics K – 6 at our school. We are improving the way we conduct formative assessment, (what do students know before a block of learning?) and summative assessment, (what is the level of understanding after a block of learning and how effective was our teaching?). Jack Priestley is leading this process and its purpose is greater student engagement, achievement and improved assessment and monitoring of progress. These fluid maths groups will also assist with our transition process to three classes in Semester Two. STUDENT LEADERS BRISBANE CONFERENCE 24/2 Next Monday we have nine excited Stage 3 students who will be attending the Halogen Student Leader Conference at Brisbane with our other First North Community of Schools. Students will hear quality speakers such as Bianca Chatfield, Jackie French and John Coutis and I look forward to their reviews in the next newsletter. K – 6 SWIMMING LESSONS ON FRIDAY 6/3 & 13/3 All K-6 students will participate in ability swimming lessons for sport on the above dates. A note detailing information will come home shortly. Safety is our highest priority and therefore we require a huge band of parents to support us at the pool. We hope to have the same wonderful support we have enjoyed in the past. Year 2 to Year 6 students will attend a fun Clunes Swimming Carnival at Lismore Memorial Baths on 20th March. Kate Hutchinson was successful in achieving a sporting grant which will fund this essential program. Michelle Slee Principal

Clunes OSHC This week at COOSH the children have been taking the lead on what they want to do at COOSH. The older children have been leading circle time. A time at the start of the afternoon, where we all sit on pillows and reflect about the good and bad things that had happened during the day and how they made us feel. This time gives the children a chance to come together and relax are a long day at school. On Monday we did college,

the children especially like making funny people by cutting out faces and putting them on different bodies. It was funny to see large heads on small body and small heads on large bodies. Through this summer we have been very lucky to have had wonderful parents provide ice blocks for Children afternoon tea. The children have enjoyed these delicious treats and their cooling effects. A continued support in this

would be much appreciated. We still have spaces for afterschool care. If you would like your children to attend after school care please Call or text us on 0437 362 834 or email us [email protected].
