GeneralSplit, Croatia’s second largest town, reigns as the economic and cultural centre of the Dalmatian Coast. Split lies on the Adriatic coast, centralDalmatia, on the Split (Marjan) peninsula. Although surrounded by sea asa peninsula, Split also borders with surrounding mountains, includingMosor, Kozjak and Marjan. It is the second largest Croatian cargo harbour, but also one of the largest passenger harbours on the Mediterranean.

Split has a Mediterranean climate, characterised by dry and very hot sum-mers and cool, but moderate and humid winters. Average temperature of the warmest month of the year is 22°C, and the coldest 4°C. Although peak summer temperatures are often around 35°C.

Whilst credit cards (Diners, AMEX, Visa and MasterCard) are widely accept-ed, they are not accepted everywhere. The local currency is the Croatian Kuna, and it is advisable that you have Kuna for bars, taxis and – most importantly – for The Scout Shop! When we visit Klis, we plan to have a variety of vendors of domestically produced food and drink, and those will likely be cash-only. Usually the best conversion rates are obtained within Croatia from “Mjenjačnica” of which there are many in Split but be sure to take a receipt! Exchange rates vary but are typically between HRK 7,2 - 7,4 to the Euro.

Conference RulesFor everyone to have an enjoyable, safe and productive Conference, please respect the following rules:

1. Clean as you go. If it is your mess, clean it up. This applies everywhere, in the accommodation, working areas, everywhere. Volunteers will be on hand to direct you to recycling/waste receptacles if needed.

2. Alcohol is to not to be consumed in the working areas of the Conference.

3. Smoking is not allowed indoors on campus.

4. Due to limited space, Family members may not enter the Plenary rooms during meetings.

5. No open fires please, ANYWHERE!

6. We will be a large, visible group. Whilst Croatia is a tolerant country, walking around the city in only swimsuits is not acceptable. Let’s be an example.

7. The accommodation rules state that there should be no loud parties. Don’t be too noisy when people may be trying to sleep (or work!).

Personal SafetyCroatia is a very safe country, and Split receives over half a million visitors per year, with a very low level of crime. However, we live in an imperfect World, so it is sensible everywhere to pay attention to your personal safety and your belongings, especially when outside the campus.

During the Summer, Split becomes a party destination city for people from around the World, and certain parts of the city during the Conference will be particularly lively. We recommend that if you go into Split during your free time, that you go as a group, and if you ask some of the locals from the Hosting team, they will offer advice on the best parts of the city to go to (or avoid – according to your preference).

Every effort is being made to ensure a safe experience whilst on campus, and on the organised events, however the organisers cannot be liable for any loss or injuries however arising from the participation of this event.
