WHAT DO WE DO? QUESTION #4 I Encounter Jesus as My Savior I enter into a relationship with Jesus, accepting his gift of grace and joining the journey of restoration to God our Father. I embrace Jesus teachings and submit to them. I declare this commitment to Jesus by repenting of my sin and being baptized by immersion. I Encounter Jesus as Our Master As I journey with other disciples of Jesus, I enter into koinonia or community with them and with our Lord Jesus. I celebrate this community in worship and ministry, partnering with other believers to accomplish Jesus agenda of love, peace and service. I Encounter Jesus as Our Master I declare this commitment to Jesus by receiving communion and placing a priority on gathering with others in Jesus presence for worship on the first day of every week and in community throughout the week. We Encounter Jesus as Our Model Knowing Jesus teachings on loving our neighbor, I sacrifice of my own prosperity and resources to love others. I commit to serve and love with no agenda but Jesus. I go beyond verbal and intellectual consent and intertwine my existence with Jesus vision. We Encounter Jesus as Our Model I declare this commitment by faithfully giving to the finances of our church, being dedicated to Servant Projects and openly sharing my faith through words and actions. Where Did These STEPS Come From? The explicit and implicit teachings of Jesus in the Gospels The instruction of the Apostles The best place to look The Epistle to the Hebrews Hebrews 12:1-3 1 Let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted. Lay aside every weight The way of Jesus takes conscious decisions to put other things aside. Sin which clings You cant follow the way of Jesus and hold onto sin. The two are mutually exclusive. Run with endurance The Way of Jesus requires hard work over long distances and frequent repetition! Course set before us We dont choose the races We are not to run alone.
