CityU Canvas BCP Google Classroom Instruction for Teachers The instructions provided in this document are designed for the Business Continuity Plan (BCP) of Canvas services at CityU. When Canvas is out of service, teachers may consider using Google Classroom as a temporary channel to conduct e-Learning. Part I Register CityU Google Apps (GApps) account

(Please skip to Part II if you already registered your CityU GApps account.) In order to use CityU GApps, you need to register for an account. 1) Browse to CityU University Email Services web page (https://email.cityu.edu.hk/home/), click Account

Management under STAFF

2) Click Account Application under Manage My Optional Gapps Account @gapps.cityu.edu.hk

3) Log in using your CityU Electronic ID and password

4) Click Register for the Account and follow the on screen instructions to setup the GApps account

Part II Log In Google Classroom with CityU GApps

1) Browse to the home page of Google Classroom (https://classroom.google.com)

2) Log in using your CityU GApps account ([email protected])

3) Click NEXT button to input password

If you forget your password, you can reset it by visiting the reset account password page (https://www.cityu.edu.hk/cscagent/camGAppsReset.asp).

Part III Create Your Class in Google Classroom

(After you log in Google Classroom with CityU GApps, details please refer to Part II) In the Google Classroom home 1) Click the + icon to bring up the context menu

2) Select Create class from the list of items

In the class creation form 3) Enter the course code and title as the Class name

4) Enter Section if necessary

5) Press CREATE to proceed After a couple seconds, the class will be created immediately.

Part IV Invite Students to Join Your Class

(After you log in Google Classroom with CityU GApps, details please refer to Part II) Inside your class, you can find the class code on the banner of course page. To zoom in the class code,

1) Click which is next to the class code

2) Jot down the unique class code

3) Distribute the code to students through email or other communication channels

You can also find the class code under People tab.

Please note that students can only use their CityU GApps account to join the class

Part V Share Course Materials to Students

(After you log in Google Classroom with CityU GApps, details please refer to Part II) 1) Click Share something with your class… to open

2) Type in your message

3) (Optional) Attach additional content to the message, e.g. upload a document (refer to page 8-9), share a Google Drive document, YouTube or a URL

4) Hit Post to share the item immediately

To upload a document 1) Click the attachment icon to bring up the insert file panel

2) Drag files from your local computer into the file panel

3) Press the Upload button to start uploading

4) After pop-up closed, click Post to publish

Part VI Create Assignment for Students

(After you log in Google Classroom with CityU GApps, details please refer to Part II) 1) Click on Classwork tab

2) Click on + Create button

3) Click Assignment on the pop-up menu

4) Type in the assignment title and description (optional)

5) Pick a due date and select a specific topic (optional)

6) Press the Assign button to submit

To check the assignment submissions 1) Click on the assignment title to show more information

2) Click on View Assignment

3) Click on the file thumbnail / name to open the submission

To grade the submission 1) Under Student work tab, click on the ___/total point field, then type in the numerical score 2) Press the Return button to send the grading to the student

You can also grade the submission after clicking the file thumbnail / name to open.
