127th Annual Meeting Minutes

January 27, 2019

11:48 Fr. John lead us in an opening prayer and called our January Annual Meeting to order. A quorum of 35 was

noted and the meeting started. Mike Bullard appointed clerk for this meeting.

Call to approve minutes from 2018 Annual Meeting. Sue Olson moved to accept the minutes from 2018 Annual

Meeting. Mary McEnroe Second, no comments, motion passed unanimously. Fr. John changed the program sched-

ule by putting the elections forward, due to some people having to depart early.

Fr. John thanked out going vestry members, Barbara Linscott, Dick Salisbury, and Mike Bullard with the gift of a

copy of St Augustus Prayer Book. (on back order)

The nominated vestry members are Marjorie Dahl, Bill Krenicki and Gail Leland as Senior Warden. Barbara Lin-

scott made the motion to elect and Marilyn Kitler seconded. Vote passed unanimously. Fr John reminder the posi-

tion of Clerk is still unfilled.

Next was the election of delegates to the 2019 Diocesan Convention; Sue Olson, Larry Johnston, and Marilyn Kit-

ler are nominated. Kate Berry made the motion to accept, David Hawkes seconded, motion passed unanimously.

Mike Bullard moved to stricken reference to Bishops Election, as those delegates were elected at our 2018 Annual

Meeting. Also printing error indicated 2018 Diocesan Convention, not 2019.

Fr. John commenting on his report he feels Blessed to be here, likes the second Sunday rotation, 5th Sundays, shar-

ing that has developed and looking forward to expanding. Although not in his written report The Harvest Dinner

with Bishop really impressed how the parishes worked together. Noted attendance up from 58 to 59. The between

service studies will continue as the interest has grown.

Brad Berry questioned Sunday attendance numbers and Fr. John noted further investigation will be done to. Page 9.

Senior warden thanked Fr. John, vestry and congregation for cooperation with Church moving forward.

Junior report accepted as Tony is in Fla.

Treasurer James reflected on today’s scripture from Corinthians, and the many parts contribute to the good of all.

Reported we were close to balanced budget, but we are doing good so far. Barbara Linscott thanked James for all

of us, for his hard work keeping the budget up to date and us on track. Bill Krenicki proposed motion to accept the

2019 budget, Barbara Linscott second, passed unanimously.

Chris Krenicki and Brad Berry spoke to the YFM report noting a paragraph is missing showing other activities

missed in the printed report. These will be submitted to the next newsletter and posted on the bulletin board. Chris

ending in asking for prayers for children and those transporting them. Fr. John appreciates finding little surprises in

his pockets or on his desk the children have made for him. Thank you to YFM.

Bill Krenicki speaking about the OME report and remarking to the generosity from Church of Our Father to the

food pantry and other recipients of our gifts here and around the world. Bill and Brad are looking forward to open-

ing a dialog and working with our partner churches on MDI. Thank you for your work in this mission.

Fr. John speaking to Sue O’s reports altar guild, scheduling, and flowers. Elaborated on Sue needing assistance

with flowers, arranging and aiding with the expense. Fr. John explaining one scheduler might reduce some overlap

of labors.

Brad Berry spoke to the ongoing Archiving process started last November at the request and assistance of the

Dioceses. It is a slow process with more help needed. Kate pointed out it is a good way to learn and under-

stand the history of Church of Our Father.

Carlene spoke we should try to bring in more people from outside.

Gail spoke to an idea from the last wardens and treasurers meeting for an Island supper like the Hearth Side

Suppers Church of Our Father had held in the past. She is looking for volunteers to coordinate with the other

churches. Gail also reminded us she is always available for comments and suggestions in her position as Sen-

ior Warden.

Senior Warden

Year-End Report 2019

Well, it’s been a year of great change. Coming on as Senior Warden last January, I was

excited to work with Fr. John and that was a very nice beginning to get started with! And

then things began to evolve and change and here we are without Fr. John, Fr. Tim has now

left and we are getting by with supply and joining services with the other churches once a

month since August. I’m feeling blessed that we have such wonderful supply Priests in

our midst and so far, things have been going pretty well. Mary Carol has helped with

morning prayer, pastoral visits and eucharistic visiting as well. We are fortunate in so

many ways, yet what and when and who are we to expect the next leadership to be?

I wish I could tell you the answers to all of that. I do know that the joint search committee is working on a

profile (thank you for all who took time to respond to the questions that have been in the Parish Hall). They have

been collected and will be read and fashioned into a profile which will reflect each church individually and yet por-

tray us as a united group. It will be interesting to see what kind of response this will get as it will be online through

the Diocesan Website. We are hoping it will be posted by February. That is the progress that is going on. If there

is a Part time Priest that we could hire, we have not found that person and the one that we did interview is not going

to work out. Patience seems to be the word at this time and I know how hard it is to be patient through this process.

Thank-you.

We’ve had some wonderful going away parties, joint services, and have shared many resources together and found

ways to combine things to make the office run smoother, like tweaking the bulletin to look the same at all churches

and a Google calendar to share all that we are doing has been developed. We’ve shared many ideas and made use of

each other’s talents. Fellowship and friendships have developed and we are comfortable in each other’s parishes.

I’m sure we’ll share services for Lent and the Easter services. Again, we are blessed in many ways!!

Attendance has been holding, but of course all of our summer folks are back home. We are saddened that Larry

Johnston has recently suffered a fall, Bob Chaplin has been having back problems, Bill Krenicki is still

rehabbing and others have been up and down. Let’s face it, we are not getting younger! That is the way it is in all

of our Episcopal community on the island. We are trying to meet the pastoral needs and it’s one of the

hardest jobs that we have. We love you all and wish to serve whatever the need is.

We have decided to stop the 8:00 am service for a few months, it seemed the prudent, practical thing to do. We’ll

reassess that when spring comes. We’ve figured out a way to simplify things on the altar so that not as many peo-

ple need to be involved. It’s easier to schedule and requires fewer people. We’ll test the waters and see how that

develops as we go along.

The Discretionary Fund has been utilized a few times and I’m very blessed every time I disperse funds to

someone in need. Thank-you for your contributions from time to time.

I think that’s all I need to report, I’m continuing to meet with the Warden’s and Treasurer’s Committee and we as a

Vestry meet monthly with many Mini meetings along the way either via email or phone calls. I’m

scheduling the supply and trying to fill the gaps wherever I can. Muffet is a huge help in the office and again we

are blessed to have her helping us……thank you Muffet!!

THANK-YOU all for the support and patience for me and this process of finding our way. I know how unsettling it

can be at times to not have the answers that we want and to wait, and wait. Our future is hopeful even if we don’t

have a clear vision of what that may be.

Blessings, Gail Leland, Senior Warden

Altar Guild Report 2019

Thanks Be to God for each Altar Guild member and their diligent work to maintain an efficient monthly routine. The Guild Prayer below exemplifies the importance of the work each guild member does in preparing each week for the most holy of sacraments.

National Altar Guild Prayer

Most gracious Father who has called me, Your Child to serve

in the preparation of Your Altar, so that it may be a suitable place

for the offering of Your Body and Blood; sanctify my life and consecrate my hands so that I may worthily handle

those sacred gifts which are being offered to You. As I handle holy things, grant that my whole life may be illuminated

and blessed by You, in whose honor I prepare them, and grant that the people who shall be blessed by their use, may find their lives drawn closer to Him Whose Body and Blood

is our hope and our strength, Jesus Christ our Lord. AMEN. Altar Guild Handbook, Rev. 2006

The Altar Guild has lost another Guild member. Barbara Craighead has moved to Orono and will be truly missed by the Guild. We sincerely thank you Barbara for your time that you have given to this important duty in our Church.

Again we ask for those that would like to join the Guild to please do so. We are becoming a smaller group with more responsibilities.

The Guild was blessed with replacing the oil candles on the Altar with beeswax candles. We are still trying to get all the kinks out of using the new candles, but it takes so much less time to clean up all the elements after a service.

Altar Flower Ministry 2019

“There is no universally established rule for choice of flowers or greens to be used on the altar. It is wise, however, to keep in mind the liturgical colors that are to be used and choose flowers to harmonize with the hangings. Only live or dried flowers are to be used in the sanctuary. Do not use artificial plastic flowers.”(Copied from Altar Guild Handbook)

If you have a special request for specific flowers, please let us know when you place your order, we will do our best to satisfy you.

The most reasonable price when ordering two vases of flowers for the altar is $80 per vase from a florist shop.

Sue Olson

USHERS/GREETERS – ACOLYTES – EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS –

LECTORS – AND EUCHARISTIC VISITORS REPORTS 2018

LABORS OF LOVE It was a very successful year for all who participated and took their responsibilities seriously.

Our only repeated concern is, if on your appointed date you are unable to fill your position, please contact

Joanne or Sue and they will pass it on to Muffet.

GREETERS/USHERS

Thanks so much to each of you that worked in this ministry this past year. It was never left

without someone stepping in and doing this job. That is an example of a loving, working parish family!!

ACOLYTES

We have proceeded to change the Acolyte schedule in the winter to have just one Acolyte on the altar with the

priest. The summer schedule will go back to 2 Acolytes. We again reach out to ask others to join this ministry.

EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS

For the winter season, we will have one Eucharistic Minister as a chalice bearer.

LECTORS (Readers and Prayer Leaders)

The reading of God’s Word during a worship service is a solemn and joyous responsibility. There are no better

stories, no better people, no better insights than are presented in our Holy Bible (as per Jim Kitler). Thank you to

all in this parish who continue to read for this important ministry and function as prayer leaders for prayers of the

people. During the winter we will have one Lector doing both readings.

EUCHARISTIC VISITORS

The Rev. Mary-Carol Griffin is now able to help with many pastoral requests.

This ministry is very rewarding, not only to the recipient but to those bringing the Sacred Gifts of Jesus Christ

our Lord’s Body and Blood. Knowing a parishioner is unable to receive communion at church, yet still filling

their wishes is truly a Praise to God.

Respectfully submitted,

Sue Olson

ECW Report-2019

This feels like a repeat of last year, we seem to be creatures of habit. We’ve run the Thrift Shop

again this summer and a big THANK YOU to all of you for helping! We had, once again, a

great summer and appreciate all the work that everyone puts into it. We had many helpers to

pull that off!!

We had a very successful Christmas Fair, for some reason this year it felt much more uplifting and inspiring. The

folks that came through the door seemed to enjoy the experience and all of us workers, of which there were

many…THANK YOU, felt blessed by the whole event! Why that was, I’m not sure, but I certainly know it was

felt by all of us!

We gave out many gas cards, Hannaford cards and made meals for people in need. We continued our card

ministry, prayed and laughed and had great camaraderie together for which I am very thankful. It’s a small but

mighty group of women, with occasional help from our men folk, which we are grateful for as well.

We helped put in the new door on the Thrift Shop, contributed to the Defibulator machine and helped with several

other projects around the church as well. We contributed to many organizations (see our financial page) and we

paid for several cakes for our 90 year olds this year!

We had two funeral receptions that we put on this year. We hosted Aggie Sawyers reception on Sept 30th and

Doris Watson’s son’s reception on Oct 4th. As always we are blessed to do these receptions.

Once again Jane Adams hosted our Christmas Party and even though our numbers were fewer than in the past, we

had a lovely time!! Jane’s house is perfect for parties and she is a most gracious hostess, THANK-YOU Jane!!!!

This is really a giant THANK-YOU note to all of you, we really appreciate everyone that helps us in one way or

another and that includes all of you!!

2019 Outreach, Mission and Evangelism committee of Church of Our Father

Annual report

The “Word, Works and Wonders” Team

The OME committee has provided this year needed support both financially and through volunteerism to

several ministries supported by our church in keeping with our Lord’s direction to feed and/or clothe

those in need while carefully preserving the generous resources the church provides. Below, we have

given additional details. God bless!

Matthew 25:35-40 A command to care for the physical needs of the Apostles and for all other Believers who

suffer hardship for the sake of Christ, Of course, we should help our neighbors and others in physical need as we

are able and have opportunity because they are human beings like we are. These six works, show the temper and

virtue of the doer, are taken as the type of those which are approved. The six are proofs of self-denial, pity,

sympathy, charity; they demonstrate that the doer has something of God in him, that according to his lights he

possesses and has exercised the supreme grace of love. In caring for those in need, the righteous discover that

their acts of compassion for the needy are the same as if done for Jesus himself.

Vision: “In obedience to God’s Great Commission, we will motivate, equip and strengthen one another to pray

and to send peoples and finances to partner with ministries to bring people to Jesus Christ with God’s help and

to His glory. “This vision statement drives the activities of the OME.” In 2019 we continued our work in many

areas both domestically as well as church interests abroad. This includes both financial as well as volunteer

support for the following ministries:

OUTREACH:

Feeding the hungry – financial and volunteer activities at the Bar Harbor Food Pantry. Under the leadership of

Bill Krenicki, our church has provided a gigantic amount of donated food to the Food Pantry. Thank you all.

Bill was recognized earlier in the year at a reception put on at the Bar Harbor club.

Mirus Academy –. Participating in several events and one parishioner doing volunteer art teaching.

Outreach at Christmas –supplementing the activities of Christmas Outreach by joining with Mt View

Development Center in distributing their gifts of knitted hats to various organizations in Hancock County

Assistance to Men’s Group – Provided physical support to the various activities designated to raise funds for

church operation, especially the May yard sale.

NEW- Joint all Episcopal church Outreach committee – Under the leadership of Bill Krenicki, this effort

started this year as one of the first collaborative efforts of the three churches (COOF, St Saviors, St Johns).

There is a desperate need for MORE ATTENDANCE IN THIS EFFORT. However, meetings have focused on

i.e. activities we can do jointly while still maintaining individual church outreach endeavors. We hope to

vigorously pursue this in 2020.

MISSION: (pray, send and celebrate, motivate, invite and equip)

Lacy’s ministry and Mission – Provided financial support for their various needs. Shared the Good News of

their growth and activities

Mission Opportunities – In conjunction with YFM, financial support for 2 girls at school in Mityana.

Mary Chowenhill –supported Mary financially in her various mission activities at Uganda Christian University.

Brenda and Gloria Mary Chowenhill

The Lacy’s

SUMMER EVENING OF SHARING WITH MISSIONARIES.

A wonderful evening of updates and sharing was given by Mary Chowenhill and Fr Chuck and

Beth Bradshaw. It was planned that the Lacys would be there, but a back injury to Dottie

prevented that from occurring. However, all four got together at the New Wineskins conference.

EVANGELISM (pray, motivate, invite, equip)

While no organized evangelism activity occurred in 2018, parishioners do perform individual

evangelism in their lives. If the all MDI coalition is to succeed, evangelism needs to be a part.

APPRECIATION AND CONCERNS

OME is appreciative of all who have supported its activities this year and given of time, talent and

treasury to these needs. Furthermore, we are appreciative of the connection and interaction we

have with other groups in our church - YFM, Christmas Outreach, Fuel Assistance, Men’s group.

Of concern is the meager number of parishioners joining in OME activities. New faces with

fresh ideas are needed going forward. The Lord is calling all of us to this important

component of parish life.

LOOKING AHEAD

As the development of greater cooperation and sharing takes place among and between MDI

Episcopal churches, there hopefully will emerge many opportunities for joint OME type activities.

With this hope, let us be prepared to engage in new and larger OME programs.

Let us pray that the opportunity emerges for Fr Chuck and Beth to return on a short mission to

Mityana.

Let us continue to pray for the full recovery of Bill Krenicki.

Below are some pictures of OME support and missionaries.

CHURCH OF OUR FATHER FUEL FUND 2019

Annual Meeting – January 19, 2020

Church of Our Father Fuel Fund was established September 30, 2008. Fuel prices were high

and the economy was tough at that time. Several Church members saw the need right in our own con-

gregation to help seniors get ready for the winter. The Vestry formed the Fuel Committee to hopefully

meet some of these needs. At that time, we interviewed parishioners and other seniors whom we felt

could benefit from fuel and other services and went to work. We have quietly helped many folks over

the years, especially when the fuel was nearly $4.00 per gallon and budgets just could not stand the

increases. Our current members are Kate Berry, Jane Adams, Nancy Salisbury, Tom Tukey and

Joanne Sousa.

Income - Christmas Offering of $135.00 2,111.07

A word from your Parish Administrator!

I continue to be grateful to be your administrator and appreciate the excellent support from our war-

dens and office help folk!

We are in a challenging time with no Priest in place yet, so Tony getting the music to me in time to

email the bulletin to the supply clergy for each Sunday is essential and I appreciate his efforts in that

regard. Once we have some regular coverage, it should be easier for them and for me.

Sue Olson folding the bulletins each week and helping with the newsletter is a God send!

Help proofing the bulletins is also great and I hope to establish a regular pattern for that.

While I would love to be perfect, I know that I am not, and mostly I appreciate the support and for-

bearance of our wonderful parishioners!

Bless you all and God’s Peace!

ARCHIVE REPORT 2019

Archiving activities at Church of Our Father began in earnest in 2019 following training by Elizabeth

Estey, Archivist for the Diocese. The Vestry gave approval for the hall closet and some space in the basement

for storage of achievable materials. These areas add to the two fireproof file cabinets in the basement. The

early activities consisted of sorting materials into three categories: items definitely achievable, those that

required more study and then those that could be disposed. Later activities consisted of finalizing items that

are achievable and organizing them into logical categories for storage.

Metal storage racks were obtained for storage of boxes in the basement. Appropriate acid proof storage

boxes were purchased. Current efforts and into 2020 will consist of placing similar items into the boxes and

labeling folders and boxes for identification. Later efforts can consist of chronologically organizing the items

in the boxes. Boxes will then be stored on shelves in the hallway closet and metal racks in basement.

Parishioners who helped with this endeavor were: Barbara Craighead, Barbara Linscott, Mike Bullard,

Kate Berry, Larry Johnston, Dick Salisbury and Bill Krenicki.

Respectfully submitted,

Brad Berry

Christmas Outreach

Appreciation is extended to all who participated in giving to this Outreach or being on the committee.

Participation was enthusiastic. To the Emmaus Center, we provided gifts for children. We gave presents to

the young men at the Mt View Development Center, (we are now the only church that provides gifts to the

Center) The Center in return provided some of their knitted hats which we gave to the Emmaus Center,

Maine Sea Coast Mission and local schools. In December, many supported the Fuel Fund needs. Thanks to

all.

Looking forward – Please consider in 2020 being a part of this ministry. Should we have a different focus?

Please provide your input.

Committee members: Jane Adams, Brad and Kate Berry, Grace Woods Dwyer, Chris Krenicki, Barbara Lin-

scott, Carol Johnston, Barbara Craighead, Nancy Lombardi, Gail Leland, Mary McEnroe, Liz Libby.

Youth and Family Ministry 2019 “Train up a child in the way he should go, and [or even] when he is old he will not depart from it”

Proverbs 22:6

Mission Statement: “To bring youth and families into a closer relationship with Jesus Christ and one

another.” Adopted in February 2012.

Youth and Family Ministry (Y&FM) is dedicated to growing not only our youth, but families as well, in

the love and knowledge of Christ.

What Blessings and Great Joy Abound for Church of Our Father Youth and Family. Each week

the children join us in worship and have grown in their understanding and participation. The children we

have in this Ministry are Marley, Maggie, Estella and James. After the worship, the children join at the

“circle table “where they attend a time of education and fun. “Having the children present in the parish

hall gives them a feeling of being part of the church community and gives our church community an op-

portunity to be part of and witness what the children are learning. We especially love when we can be

interactive with the congregation as a whole. It is the body of Christ at work!” They have decorated their

learning around the Parish Hall. Banners are on display on windows and pictures on the bulletin board

of activities. Also they participated in Samaritan’s Purse and Sunday hospitality clean-up. Chris

Krenicki has led this important aspect of Parish life. Thanks be to God for her leadership.

Camp Bishopswood. Marley and Maggie went to Camp Bishopswood this summer and returned

with expressions “it was really great.” Next year it is hoped that more youth will go and participate

in this experience. Fundraising will be needed to permit our youth to go.

Our girls in Mityana. In conjunction with the Outreach, Mission and Evangelism committee, Youth

and Family Ministry support two girls in Mityana, Uganda – Gloria and Brenda. Our youth corre-

sponded with them and in return they sent pictures and a video indicating their appreciation for our

support. Without that support, they would not be able to go to school.

Upgrading Teaching Materials and a Children’s Library. As we move into 2020, the teaching materials

are desperately in need of upgrading and change. In doing this, it will permit bringing the Word of God to

our youth in new and exciting ways. Along with this, establishment of space and shelving for a children’s

library will allow our youth to learn and study the Lord’s calling even beyond Sunday School time.

Hopes for 2020. As always we hope that through the Lord’s direction and our help more youth will be

brought to the Youth and Family Ministry program. As the coalition between Church of Our Father, St Sav-

iors, and St Johns develops, the hope here is for interaction, joint activities and friendship. We ask for all

your prayers to make these hopes happen.
