From the Pastor’s Desk

Many of you our parishioners have already heard the sad news: Father Sylvester has been reassigned to Saint Mary Church in Delaware. He is covering for Father Mike Watson who is on a medical leave of absence. Father Sylvester has assisted in the English-speaking community at Christ the King for the past six years. He has been a tremendous blessing to us, and I am grateful for all that he has done for our parish. This will be a big change for Father Sylvester, who will need our prayers as he begins his work in Delaware.

Because of Father Sylvester’s absence, it is necessary for me to discontinue some of our daily Masses. Beginning this week, we will no longer be offering Mass at noon on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. We will also be ending our 9:00 a.m. Mass on Saturdays. Fortunately, there are several other midday Masses in the surrounding area, and there is an 8:30 a.m. Mass on Saturdays at Saint Catharine. Please keep in mind that we celebrate the Fourth Sunday of Advent next weekend – a celebration distinct from Christmas. It will seem strange, but after our Masses for the Fourth Sunday of Advent on December 24, we will then celebrate a 4:00 p.m. Mass in English and a 6:00 p.m. Mass in Spanish for the Vigil of Christmas. Yes, it is a bit confusing! Because Christmas falls on a Monday, everyone should plan on going to Church twice sometime between December 23 and December 25. The Sisters’ Corner

You are invited to the celebration of posadas this week. We will meet in the church basement at 7:00 p.m. each night. The posadas will feature Christmas carols, the Rosary, and piñatas for the entire family to enjoy. We are excited to receive our newborn King! (This event is in Spanish.)

Parish News

St. Vincent DePaul serves hundreds of needy families a month.

Their resources are limited so each month we are asking Christ the King parishioners to donate a specific item that is needed. This month, we are collecting bed sheets of all sizes. So be sure to stop by the vestibule with your donation. Please consider making a monthly donation to St. Vincent DePaul so that more folks in need can be helped. Thank you so much for your generosity.

We will have gift cards for sale in the back of church this weekend. We have a variety of department stores, restaurants, gas

stations and much more. A percentage of all sales will benefit All Saints Academy. Stop by and get a Christmas gift for that special friend or relative. (This event is bilingual.) Christmas Poinsettia Memorials are a way to remember our deceased loved ones, as well as decorate the church during the Christmas season. If you would like, place a $10.00 donation in an

envelope marked “Christmas Flowers” and include the name of your deceased loved one. Then put the envelope in the collection basket at Mass. All Christmas Flower donations must be submitted by this Monday, December 18. (This event is bilingual.)

Muchos de ustedes nuestros feligreses han escuchado la triste noticia: el Padre Sylvester ha sido reasignado a la iglesia Saint Mary en Delaware. All Saints Academy Catholic School

Thank you to our families and friends who came to our Christmas program this past Thursday. We want to thank Mr. Parish and Ms. Cason for their work with the children and adult choir. The school will begin Christmas Break on Tuesday, December 19, with a 1:00 p.m. dismissal. We will have our famous talent show that day, too.
