“UnLock Our Jobs” Coalitionhttp://www.unlockourjobs.org/
Un-Lock Our Jobs was founded to protect the uninterrupted operation of the “Avenue of the America’s” – the essential waterway connection between the Great Lakes and the Mississippi River corridor.
A project of the Chemical Industry Council of Illinois, Un-Lock Our Jobs is a coalition of agriculture, business, labor, river communities, and concerned citizens working towards a comprehensive solution to stop the spread of Asian Carp, while leaving the Chicago locks open to commerce.
The potential migration of Asian Carp into the Great Lakes is a serious problem that needs to be addressed. Our members support the ongoing robust effort by federal and state agencies to educate the public about this threat, develop scientific and ecological solutions to control the Asian Carp population, improve existing barriers, and erect new barriers designed to prevent further migration.

Recognizing this valuable contribution to our region and the larger U.S. economy, we support the protection of American jobs by:
1) Keeping the Chicago Area Waterway System open to business, through “on demand” lock operation
2) A comprehensive multi-tiered solution that maximizes control and prevention efforts targeting Asian Carp
3) Fully funding ongoing efforts to address the spread of Asian Carp

Chicago Sanitary & Ship CanalThe Chicago Sanitary & Ship Canal (CSSC) forms a unique, man-made link between the Great Lakes drainage basin and the Mississippi River drainage basin. The CAWS must remain open for several reasons:FLOODING: During heavy rains, the CAWS acts as a drainage outlet for excess water-it is the stormwater detention system for the City of Chicago.ECONOMIC PROSPERITY: Multiple businesses and industries are dependent upon the CAWS for transportation of goods and services.HEALTH: The CAWS acts as a means of transportation for treated sewage.
