Education Partnerships Broadening Student Horizons Kitimat LNG’s funding is allowing the HR MacMillan Space Centre to bring their mobile, interactive planetarium to Northern B.C. schools and communities. Exploring Career Options In 2014, Kitimat LNG covered the accommodation cost for 50 students from the Coast Mountains School District attending the LNG in B.C. Conference, where they participated in a dinner and panel discussion with MLAs, learned about career opportunities in the natural gas industry, and visited the University of Northern British Columbia to explore post-secondary education options. E-Readers for First Nations Youth Kitimat LNG is providing First Nations youth with E-Readers, which allow users to access library collections available for download at no charge. Chevron staff “pull together” to raise money for United Way of Northern B.C.

Extracurricular Opportunities Kitimat LNG supports extracurricular activities for young people in B.C., including a ski trip for Grade 6 students and an essay-writing contest for Metlakatla First Nation students.

Northern B.C. Trades ScholarshipsKitimat LNG is supporting students in Northern B.C. in gaining trades qualifications with scholarship funding through North West Community College’s Trades Bursary Fund.

Kitselas Canyon Cultural Preservation To help preserve the culture, language and history of the Kitselas First Nation, Kitimat LNG has contributed $25,000 toward the development of a “My Community App” for the Kitselas Canyon Historic Site. Kitselas First Nation members will be given the tools and knowledge to interview each other and build their community story through video, audio, photos and written text.

Health Partnerships

Wet’suwet’en First Nation’s Community Wellness Initiatives Kitimat LNG has supported the Wet’suwet’en community’s wellness strategy, which encourages healthy living by equipping participants with tools to address health issues, set personal goals, and achieve a healthy and productive life balance.

“Walk in Balance” Health and Wellness Conference Kitimat LNG sponsored a “Walk in Balance” conference, offering workshops for Aboriginal Peoples on topics including mental and spiritual health, traditional medicine, work/life balance, and addiction awareness and prevention, all encouraging participants to make changes that would benefit them at home, at work and in their communities.

B.C. Burn FundThrough the Kitimat Firefighters Local 1304, Kitimat LNG has contributed to the B.C. Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund, which provides a wide range of services to those who have experienced severe burns and works to protect all British Columbians from similar trauma.

Youth Drop-in and Resource CentreKitimat LNG funding will allow Terrace and District Community Services Society to establish a centre in Terrace for youth to enjoy social, recreational and educational activities in a confidential, safe and non-judgmental environment.
