outreach reporting ToolThe UCSD OTIEC is introducing its new online Trainer Tool for Outreach Trainers. The new web-based site will include the ability to enter all course information directly on predetermined screens, including student names. The system also includes features not cur-rently available to trainers such as access to a personal database of their stu-dents which includes the card numbers attached to each student. This database is an excellent tool for those with a small business and need to communicate with their students. Additionally, the new system allows for the department to print student cards in a timely and efficient manner. This will eliminate errors and delays in receiving cards.

Regardless of your educational background, the UCSD Professional Certificate provides both experienced and newer safety professionals important workplace knowl-edge and practical experience regarding safety and safety standards. Benefits include:
• Practical application of OSHA regulations in your workplace
• Networking with other professionals
• Access to the most current information
• Justification for advancement or promotion
• Opportunities for new jobs or careers
I already have a bachelor’s degree and I am employed. Would a certificate program benefit me?
Yes. Certificate programs offer concentrated study in areas directly applicable to many jobs and can add breadth and depth to existing knowledge and skills. Completion of a certificate program can help you make the transition to a new career.
Can I take courses without being enrolled in the certificate programs?
Yes. The certificate program consists of courses from our regular curriculum, so some students work towards a certificate while others do not. From the date of your application for the certificate program, you have five years to complete the required coursework.
How many credits do I have to earn for each certificate program?
• The “Professional Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health” in either Construction or General Industry requires 24 units.
• The Dual Professional Certificate in both Construction and General Industry requires a total of 35 units.
Can I pursue both Construction and General Industry areas of specialization in the certificate program?
Yes. If you wish to obtain the Dual Professional Certificate in both Construction and General Industry you must complete 35 units rather than just 24.
Can I transfer in courses from other institutions?
Yes. If you have successfully completed comparable courses at another accredited college or university within five years certifi-cate courses began at UC San Diego Extension, and you earned a “C-“ in each, you may petition to transfer up to two courses. If you are active military, you may substitute up to 6 federally designated OSHA Training Institute’s OSHA numbered courses for our OSHA numbered courses of equivalent credit value.
What course should I take first?
Many courses require the OSHA 510 or OSHA 511 as a pre-requisite. We recommend you begin with these courses.
How much does the certificate program cost?
There is a $60 non-refundable fee to enroll in the Professional Certificate program. For individual course fees, see the details in this catalog or go to our website. Add the costs of all the courses you need to complete the program to estimate the total program costs. You pay for courses as you enroll.
How do I enroll in a certificate program?
You can enroll in any of the following ways:
• Phone: (800) 358-9206 or (619) 260-3070
• Online: osha.ucsd.edu
• Fax: (619) 294-3861
• Mail: 404 Camino del Rio South, Ste 102 San Diego, CA 92108
