    Location: Gwynt Y Mor Client: Seaway Heavy Lifting (SHL) Project: Total Waste Management Service

    WSR Recycling Ltd were appointed by Seaway Heavy Lifting (SHL) to provide Total Waste Management services to Seaway Heavy Lifting Engineering BV (SHL) of the Netherlands as part of the Gwynt Y Mor Offshore Windfarm Project.

    The 2billion Gwynt Y Mor project was constructed by RWE NPower and consisted of 160 turbines generating 576MW of electricity, enough to feed 400,000 homes. The project is currently the largest windfarm project under construction in Europe and is due to be fully operational at the end of 2014.

    Activities & Services Overview SHL is supported the whole operation through the provision of their purpose built vessel, the Stanislav Yudin, which is transporting and laying all the foundations for the 160 turbines.

    WSR were approached by SHL to help support them in the design and implementation of the statutory required Site Waste Management Plan (SWMP) for approval by the principal contractor along with the appropriate safety method statements for all the required operations.

    Waste materials currently generated by all the offshore activities of SHL were transported to the Gwynt Y Mor Base Harbour Port Facility at Birkenhead. In line with the requirements of the SWMP waste was segregated into polypropylene bulk bags covering waste groups like plastic, food, general waste and hazardous waste such as oily rags, paints, absorbent granules. In addition, wooden pallets and used foundation grout was also brought onshore from the SHL vessel.

    WSR trained operatives remove all the waste materials from SHL shipping containers and placed into WSR containers (via telehandler) prior to haulage to our Ditton Road waste management facility. Accurate reporting was provided through our integrated weighbridge software aids in the production of accurate figures for the SWMP and to provided our customer with information on how much material is re-used, recycled or disposed to meet the requirements of the waste hierarchy.

    All works were completed within the allotted timeframe and to the satisfaction of the client.
