Resume Writing Principles

A resume should:

• Scream that you can create value, get money, & lead others

• Be them-focused rather than you-focused

• Be 80% about performance and 20% about personality. Size does matter.

• Show your value not your verbs. Leave the thesaurus at home.

• Not be more than one-page long• Not be a carbon copy of your past job

Publicist/Social Media Manager – BermanBraun InteractiveFull Time POSITION SUMMARYWe are looking for an experienced, organized and motivated Public Relations/Social Media Manager to work in-house and facilitate public relations for BermanBraun sites such as Wonderwall (the highly successful celebrity site for MSN) and Glo.com – a newly launched women’s fashion, lifestyle and beauty site (in partnership with MSN and Hachette). Also work on the upcoming launch of new sites (Politics, Latino and more). The manager will work closely with the editorial and product teams of both sites, as well as BermanBraun’s publicist to position and implement outreach to a variety of media outlets. Primary focus and daily activities will be on creating a presence for all our brands in the online space and beyond. When BermanBraun is launching new projects or initiatives on the sites, he or she will be responsible for creating and executing a publicity plan, with a strong emphasis on social media efforts and integrations. A great candidate will be comfortable wearing many different hats and be able to execute various levels of outreach to media outlets. PRIMARY DUTIES• Work with BermanBraun publicist, Flo Grace, and major partners (i.e. MSN, Hachette

Filipacchi, MSNBC, MSN Latino) on press releases, Q&As, develop integrated communications campaigns, short & long term PR strategies and grassroots marketing efforts

• Manage social media accounts and work with lead editors to strategize, also interns and editorial staff to implement social strategies

• Strategize with lead editors from each site to generate awareness• Work closely with the sites' editorial teams to develop social media integrations and

brainstorm creative ways to pitch print and online publications based on editorial calendars and key events

• Daily and weekly outreach, including creative and consistent pitches, to online and traditional media outlets, creating relationships with key bloggers, web site editors and print publications in the lifestyle, celebrity and politics spaces

• Innovate new ways for the sites to have a presence in their respective categories online and introduce the brands to essential media, influencers, tastemakers VIPs and

Another great example came from a guy who wanted to work at advertising agency. Instead of doing what everyone else did, he bought the keywords of the CEOs of the firms he wanted to work for so when they did a search on Google for themselves, they saw a customized advertisement from him!
