Camp Incredible 2017 - Information, Policies, and Procedures

Dates and Times

Our summer program will consist of six one-week camps as follows: Session 1: June 5 - 9 Session 3: June 19 - 23 Session 5: July 10 - 14 Session 2: June 12 - 16 Session 4: June 26 - 30 Session 6: July 17 - 21 All camp sessions are Monday-Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Extended day available for additional fee.

Fees

Early Registration - $225 per session (by March 31, 2016)

Regular Registration - $250 per session (after March 31, 2016)

Some classes require an extra fee - see descriptions for details.

Payment: Payment must be made at time of registration. The online registration system accepts major credit cards and digital checks.

Grade and Age Levels

All class grade levels refer to the grade the student will be entering in the fall of 2017. For Pre-K level, the student must be 4 years old before the start date of the camp session.

Refunds/Cancellations

Tuition is non-refundable unless a course is cancelled for insufficient enrollment. If a class is cancelled for this reason, the student may select another camp, or the tuition will be refunded. No refunds or credits are given for absences.

Changes

Regardless of the reason for changes (except in the case of cancellation due to insufficient enrollment), a $25 change

fee will be charged for each change made to a student’s enrollment.

Changes must be made by the Friday before a session is scheduled to begin.

Changes are not allowed once the week’s camp sessions have begun.

If you need to change your student’s registration after you have enrolled, you must complete and fill out a Change Form. These

forms are available at the school’s front desk, or by emailing [email protected].

Extended Day

Extended Day is available daily from 7:30 - 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 - 5:30 p.m.

Extended Day is available in three separate sessions so that you can choose the specific times you need: AM (7:30-9:00),

PM Session 1 (3:00-4:15), and PM Session 2 (4:15-5:30). The weekly cost for each single session is $50.

You may also use the Extended Day program on a drop-in basis at a rate of $15 per day per session.

Extended day program activities are less structured than those in the regular summer classes and will include outdoor play, games,

videos, puzzles, etc.

Students attending afternoon Extended Day should bring a snack.

Late Pickup

Pickup is from 3:00 to 3:10 p.m. Any child not picked up by 3:15 p.m. will be sent to the Extended Day Program and charged the drop-in rate, with a minimum charge of $15. Any student in afternoon Extended Day who is not picked up by 5:30 will be charged a $15 late fee plus $1 per minute after 5:45 p.m.

Lunch

Students should bring a sack lunch, including a beverage. Lunches should not include soda or candy. Microwaves are available, but

items needing to be warmed up should take no longer than 2 minutes in the microwave. Lunch will be supervised. University School

has a no-peanut policy; please do not include peanut products in children’s lunches.

Behavior

Students are expected to have good behavior and follow classroom and school rules at all times. Attendance at our summer program is

a privilege, and inappropriate behavior may jeopardize that privilege.

Camp Incredible 2017 - Information, Policies, and Procedures

Personal Items University School is not responsible for personal items brought to camp by students. We prefer that students do not bring personal wire-less devices, such as cell phones, e-readers, etc., to camp. If wireless devices are brought to camp, they must be turned off. University School is not responsible for loss, theft, or damage of personal items brought to camp.

How to Register Choose classes and enroll early! Class sizes are limited, and many classes fill up quickly. Choose ONE class per week. A different selection of classes is offered each week, and each week has several choices for each grade level. Choose the class that you would like for your student for each week you want your student to attend. Check our website for a list of closed and/or cancelled classes. Kumon Mini-Sessions - $60 per session Open only to University School students entering 3rd - 8th grade

Offered during all six regular weeks of camp from 8:00 - 8:45 a.m. each day. (Kumon Mini-Sessions are not eligible for two free weeks included with USchool tuition.)

If your student is enrolled in another Camp Incredible class, you may add this to your enrollment for that week. Each day, students will work on Kumon during the mini-session and will then go to their camp at 8:45 a.m. If your student is not enrolled in a regular camp, you may enroll in the Kumon Mini-Session only and pick your child up at 8:45 a.m. Instructor: Lily Clough

1C Crafts of Many Cultures

Get ready to discover art from around the world! Learn traditional folk art techniques and make cool

multicultural creations as we learn about the world around us through art, crafts, books, music, and

videos. Instructor: Jane Poleman

K - 2nd

1D Monkey Business*

Get ready for a “chimply” marvelous time! We will be “swinging” from one activity to another as we

board the “Banana Boat” (aka school bus) and travel to museums, splash pads, Whiteside and Chan-

dler pools, and lots of parks. We may also watch a few movies (G or PG). Your kids are guaranteed to

go bananas over this class. Hats, closed-toe shoes, and sunscreen are required. Be prepared to get

wet every day! Instructor: Eileen Rutter

*An additional fee of $30 is required for this class.

K - 2nd

1E Time Travelers Just like Jack and Annie, popular characters from the Magic Tree House books, campers will travel

back in time to explore many interesting places. The Magic Tree House series introduces young read-

ers to different cultures and important times in history. Each day of camp will offer a new adventure,

based on books such as Pirates Past Noon, Night of the Ninjas, High Tide in Hawaii, Balto of the Blue

Dawn, and Stage Fright on a Summer’s Night. Stories, skits, games, snacks, and crafts will reflect the

adventure of the day. Climb into the Magic Tree House and join us for a trip back in time!

1F Literacy and Laughs

Love to look at and listen to picture books? Join Mrs. Fuller, speech-language pathologist, for fun

communication activities. We’ll enjoy picture books while reinforcing language, literacy, and narrative

skills. Each day will have activities to go along with our books. Friday will include a fall feast with a

hoedown and horseshoes. Instructor: Lorna Fuller

2nd - 4th

1G Mermaid Tails and Tales

Mermaids ahoy! We will do lots of sparkling mermaid and shell crafts, play games, and watch mer-

maid movies. Each student will stitch up a child-sized fabric mermaid tail for lounging in -- no sewing

experience required. Join us for an ocean of fun! Instructor: Lori Hovenesian

2nd - 4th

1H Hot Stuff and Games Galore

You can’t refuse the charms of this camp! We will spend the day creating fuse bead masterpieces and

playing board games. We’ll even eat snacks that are fused together or related to board games.

1I Let’s Go Lego Lego campers will experience individual and team challenges, make “moving” Lego creations, and

2C We’re on Safari Come with us on an exciting journey across the African Savanna grasslands! Here, we’ll find the

world’s largest, tallest, and fastest land animals. Learn interesting facts about African elephants,

giraffes, lions, cheetahs, zebras and more through books, movies, art, and other fun activities.

2D Legends, Lyrics & Literature

Campers will learn about the history of children’s literature while listening to stories, folk tales, fairy

tales, nursery rhymes, poems and songs from the 1700s to present day. We’ll act out, dress up, and

enjoy crafts, snacks, games, activities, songs, and movies to go with the readings. We’ll explore the

lives of legendary heroes such as Davy Crockett, Johnny Appleseed, and Robin Hood as well as charac-

ters from Aesop’s Fables, Wizard of Oz, Alice in Wonderland, The Jungle Book, Chronicles of Narnia,

and Harry Potter. You’ll have a great time -- literally! Instructor: Regina Ritchie

2E Lego Motion Lego attendees will participate in building competitions on an individual basis and in small groups.

Campers will explore the TU campus, create “masterpieces,” use stop-motion iPad applications, build

relay races, and more! Instructors: Mary Still/Becca Roe

1st - 3rd

2F Chicka Chicka Boom Boom - Explore the New Music Room

Campers will be among the first students to explore the new music room. Included in the adventure

will be daily drum circles as well as use of University School’s secret percussion toy box. By the end of

the week, we will share the “Sounds of the Safe Room” with family and friends!

2G Safari Joe’s H20*

This week, we’ll be spending time every day at Safari Joe’s H2O Water Park. Rainy days are no prob-

lem; we’ll have other options which may include G or PG movies. Participants will receive a park pass

and a cup to use all summer. If you enroll by the Early Bird deadline, you’ll receive a certificate in May

so that you will be able to use your park pass before camp. Students will be provided with a swim

shirt for the week; it must be worn to prevent sunburn.

1st - 8th

2H Games Galore Do you love Connect Four, Apples to Apples, or Uno? Join Mrs. Fuller, speech-language pathologist, in

the fun of the game. We will enjoy dice, card and board games, party games, and children’s games.

We’ll have the opportunity to use real-life social skills in turn-taking, problem-solving, differentiation

of facts and opinions, and much more. Join us as we form bonds and build friendships while we hang

out, talk, and play games! Instructor: Lorna Fuller

2I Telling Stories with Digital Photos

A picture is worth a thousand words! Using digital photos, students will produce stories and create

digital memories that will last a lifetime. Students can bring their own cameras that have an SD card.

We’ll have a showing of student work on the last day of camp.

2J Time Travel Spend a week getting wibbly-wobbly and timey-wimey as we explore time travel in popular culture.

We’ll follow the adventures of some well-known doctors along with other famous time travelers.

You’re an explorer on an Arctic expedition surrounded by mountains of white snow and ice that

stretches for miles. Suddenly, you notice animal tracks . . . but whose? We’ll meet the many animals

that inhabit the polar region through books, activities, movies, and art. Join us for some cool Arctic

fun! Instructor: Jane Poleman

PreK - K

3B Nature Fun We’ll have fun letting nature guide us as we learn about one of its best creations: the TREE! We’ll

learn about trees as habitats by identifying animals that use trees for shelter, and we’ll measure and

build a tree house. We’ll learn about the lifecycle of trees and talk about leaves and bursting buds!

PreK - 1st

3C Awesome Animal Adventures

Lions and tigers and bears . . . oh my! Join us for a fun-filled week as junior zookeepers, experiencing

all kinds of awesome animals. We’ll build a bridge for elephants to cross and create our own animal

enclosures along with lots of other great activities. We might even take a field trip to the Tulsa Zoo!

K - 3rd

3D Nature Ninjas We’ll begin the week by reading the Magic Tree House book Night of the Ninjas. A combination of

nature and ninja crafts, games, snacks, and activities will fill the week. We’ll take an up-close look at

the wonderful world of nature, including natural resources, habits and habitats of animals, insects,

and creatures of the sea. Campers will also enjoy indoor camping activities complete with an edible

campfire. Instructor: Regina Ritchie

1st - 2nd

3E Fantasy Art Bring the fantasy world to life through art as we create masks, crowns, swords, and other magical

items. Each day will feature a different fantasy project. Instructor: Bryce Brimer

1st - 5th

3F Field Trip Fun* We’ll have a week of field trips in this fun-filled class. Some of our activities and destinations may

include swimming, roller-blading, fishing, archery, skating, and water parks! Plan on eating lunch at a

park daily. You don’t need equipment for these activities in order to participate. Rainy days will be

just as fun and may include G or PG movies. Field trips may vary depending on age of participants and

weather. Snacks and Gatorade provided daily. Athletic shoes/sneakers recommended. Be prepared to

3G Vocab is Fab Enjoy a week of fun and games while expanding your vocabulary. Join Mrs. Fuller, speech-language

pathologist, and by the end of the week your vocab will impress, and you will have had lots of fun!

2nd - 4th

3H Lego Mania Lego campers will participate in building competitions on an individual and group basis, make

3I Japanese Cooking and Culture

up with a name, design, and marketing plan in the process. Join us for a week of experiencing Japa-

nese culture through food! Instructor: Leslie Gore

3J Novel vs. Movie It is time to address the age-old question: Is the movie better than the book? If you like movies, books

and movie-themed snacks, then this is the camp for you! We’ll explore excerpts from some of our

favorite stories and compare these to the movies that we love. We may even act out some of our

favorite scenes and film the scenes that should have been included.

4B Let’s Move! It’s time to move! Join us as we explore the joy and freedom of movement. We’ll do yoga “on the wild side” as we explore yoga poses that are inspired by wild animals. We’ll move through the alpha-bet of yoga poses for kids with the book ABC KIDS Yoga as our guide. We’ll also pick up the pace with Zumba and tap-dancing moves as we groove to the music. Along with all of this fun, we’ll get athletic with some baseball skills and do some art projects as well. Instructors: Cheryl McBride/Deena Smith

4C Messy Crea-tions

Come dressed in your old play clothes and have fun creating messy works of art! We will use every-

thing from paint to shaving cream in this fun-filled week discovering the many messy textures of art.

4I Sew a Quilt in Five Days

From cutting large fabric blocks to sewing on the backing, each student will create a beautiful small

quilt! Students will choose the main color fabric, and we will work through the steps together. We’ll

also make great crafts and play games. Some sewing ability is helpful, but it is not necessary.

4J Academic Bowl Buzz in! Learn about study tools, how to write questions, and what topics and items come up often

during quiz bowl competitions. There will be daily practice and tournaments. The class will stress best

strategies for playing on a team and with different quiz bowl formats. Coach Strain has led three 6th

5C Monkey Busi-ness*

Get ready for a “chimply” marvelous time! We will be “swinging” from one activity to another as we

board the “Banana Boat” (aka school bus) and travel to museums, splash pads, Whiteside and Chan-

dler pools, and lots of parks. We may also watch a few movies (G or PG). Your kids are guaranteed to

go bananas over this class. Hats, closed-toe shoes, and sunscreen are required. Be prepared to get

5D It’s a Mystery Get a clue, and join the Super Sleuths at University School for a week filled with solving mysteries,

scavenger hunts, history mysteries, finger printing and more. We’ll use stories from the popular A-Z

Mysteries, Cam Jansen, Bailey School Kids, Jigsaw Jones, Sherlock Holmes, and even the Nancy Drew

Mystery series as a basis for planning daily games, crafts, snacks, and other activities. Put on your

5E Fantasy Art Bring the fantasy world to life through art as we create masks, crowns, swords, and other magical

using many, varied, and unusual media. Students will host an art show displaying their unique works

You are challenged to join the fun! Mrs. Fuller, speech-language pathologist, will lead the group in

5H Mermaid Tails and Tales

Mermaids ahoy! We will do many sparkling mermaid and shell crafts. We’ll play games and watch

mermaid movies. We’ll stitch up a child-sized fabric mermaid tail for lounging in--no sewing experi-

5I Printmaking, Collage & Mixed Media

Design, ink, and print! From personal artwork to cards and gifts, the possibilities are endless with

printmaking. We’ll create color palettes, paint with paper, and design collages while learning about

color, concept, and perspective. Combine printmaking and collage for an amazing mixed media pro-

ject. This will be a fun and fabulous week of art! Instructor: Leslie Gore

5J Scooby Doo Adventures

Ruh-roh! Adventure and mystery awaits as we explore old Scooby classics, watch new adventures,

solve some mysteries, and make Scooby-themed snacks. It’ll be a fun week, even with meddling kids

5K Ease on Down the Road . . . or the Hall

Campers will get to explore the room “behind the curtain.” With the familiar story of The Wizard of

Oz as a backdrop, the songs from the musical “The Wiz” will provide the soundtrack to exploring our

new space. We’ll have an end-of-week share time with family and friends as well.

6E Time Travelers Just like Jack and Annie, popular characters from the Magic Tree House books, campers will travel

back in time to explore many interesting places. The Magic Tree House series introduces young read-

ers to different cultures and important times in history. Each day of camp will offer a new adventure,

based on books such as Pirates Past Noon, Night of the Ninjas, High Tide in Hawaii, Balto of the Blue

Dawn, and Stage Fright on a Summer’s Night. Stories, skits, games, snacks, and crafts will reflect the

adventure of the day. Climb into the Magic Tree House and join us for a trip back in time!

6F Safari Joe’s H20*

This week, we’ll be spending time every day at Safari Joe’s H2O Water Park. Rainy days are no prob-

lem; we’ll have other options which may include G or PG movies. Participants will receive a park pass

and a cup to use all summer. If you enroll by the Early Bird deadline, you’ll receive a certificate in May

so that you will be able to use your park pass before camp. Students will be provided with a swim

shirt for the week; it must be worn to prevent sunburn. Instructors: Liz Daniels and Eileen Rutter

of facts and opinions, and much more. Join us as we form bonds and build friendships while we hang
