Lab Title: PLM Nutrition Analysis Date: 160425

PURPOSE / OBJECTIVE(S):

To analyze my own personal nutrition on three separate days, a high calorie day, a typical calorie day and a disciplined calorie day versus my boyfriend Trevor’s personal nutrition on three separate days, a high calorie day, a typical day, and a disciplined calorie day.

SUBJECTS;

Personal analysis

Trevor’s analysis

METHODS / TOOLS / INSTRUMENTATION / PROCEDURES;

Signed up for an account at https://www.supertracker.usda.gov/foodtracker.aspx so that I could keep track of my daily food intake.

Made a separate account for Trevor to keep track of his food intake.

Inserted into my profile what a normal day of food intake would be for myself, what a low food intake day would look like, and what a high food intake day would look like.

Tracked what Trevor would eat for three days and entered them in according to if they were high, low, or normal food intake.

Table 2: This table shows us that there is a huge amount of Total sugar consumed by Trevor on his high food intake day. A small amount on the normal day, and less hen half of the normal day consumed on the

low food intake day.

Table 3: Table shows the Total Fat eaten by Trevor each day. The low food intake day actually has the highest Total fat with the high day coming in second and the normal day coming in last for Total Fat

consumed.

Table 4: Table shows carbs in grams for high, normal, and low food intake days. We see that each day is about 100 more grams then the other. Starting from low to normal, and normal to high.

Table 5: This table shows the amount of protein in grams for each day recorded for Trevor. Each day being double the other amount starting from high being double his normal day and normal being double his low day for protein intake.

Table 6: This table shows the Total Calories for high, low, and normal food intake for Tori. Her high day is about double the limit of 1800 calories a day while low and normal days are under the limit , but normal is exceeding the low day.

Table 7: This Table shows protein in grams for high, low, and normal intake days recorded for Tori. We see protein for normal is just a little over the low day while high day is double that over the normal day.

Table 8: This table shows carbs in grams for each day with high and normal almost being even with each

other and low day being half of those two.

Table 9: This table shows the Total Sugar in grams for each day for Tori. The high day total sugar is very high while the low day is very low in total sugar.

Table 10: This table shows Total Fat consumed by Tori for each day. This time the normal day has the least fat consumed compared to the low and high days of food intake.

Graph 1: This graph shows the number of Total Calories that Trevor consumed for each of the three

days. It shows us the limit line of calories he should be eating a day and lets us now that on the high day he consumed over the limit, on the normal day he consumed just under the limit, and on he low day he ate only about half of the limit amount of calories.

Graph 2: This graph shows the amount of Total Sugar in grams consumed for each day by Trevor. There is no Dailey Target or limit for this category.

Graph 3: In this graph it shows the Total Fat eaten by Trevor each day along with the acceptable range.

We see that the high and low days are both over the acceptable range while the normal day is with in the range.

Graph 4: This graph shows carbs intake for each day with acceptable range for Trevor. Each day is under

the acceptable Range.

Graph 5: The Graph shows acceptable range and actual range intake of protein for each day that was recorded for Trevor. Each day is about even and lying in the lowest percentage of acceptable Protein grams to consume.

Graph 6: In this Graph we see the number of Total Calories for each day that Tori ate. For her high, low, and normal days. We see the limit line and that only her high food intake day is above the limit of calories in a day.

Graph 7: This graph shows protein intake VS target amount of Protein in grams. We see that the high and normal day is above protein limit, but low day is just at the limit.

Graph 8: The graph shows the amount of carbs in grams along with target amount of carbs for Tori. The

target is met at the low day but exceeded in the high and normal food intake days.

Graph 9: This graph shows there is no daily target/ limit for Total sugar for Tori. We do see that the high and normal days are over the trend line though.

Graph 10: In this graph we see that the low and high days are both over the acceptable range of Total fat to be consumed in one day for Tori. With the trend line decreasing from the high day to the low day and from the low day to the normal day.

Table and Graph 1 VS. Table and Graph 6: Both Tori and Trevor consumed over the limit of their calorie

recommendation on their high food intake days. For both of them their High day calories exceed the normal day and the normal day calories exceed the low day.

Table and Graph 2 VS Table and Graph 9: Both Trevor and Tori’s High and low days of Total Sugar Are

super high on the high food intake day and super low on the low food intake day. Trevor’s trend line decreases across the days more than Tori’s trend line.

Table and Graph 3 VS Table and Graph 10: For both Trevor and Tori’s Total fat intake, their low and high

days are both over the acceptable range. For Trevor his Low day had the highest consumed Total Fat while Tori’s Normal day had the lowest consumed Total fat.

Table and Graph 4 VS Table and Graph 8: Trevor’s Carbs for each day are under the acceptable amount

while Tori’s intake of Carbs for each day are different. For Tori, her target is met at the low day and exceeded at the high and normal days for carbs.

Table and Graph 5 VS Table and Graph 7: Tori and Trevor are both similar and differ in this graph and

table of Protein. They are similar in that the high day for both is about double the normal day, but they differ because Tori’s protein is over and at the limit for each day while Trevor’s Protein stays in the limit and does not go over or under.

Attachment 1 VS Attachment 4: This attachment covers the breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks that each person consumed in the three days. In Trevor’s high day he eats breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks, just like Tori. In Trevor’s typical day he only eats lunch, dinner, and snacks while Tori eats

breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Finally, in Trevor’s low day he eats only dinner and snacks where Tori eats breakfast, lunch and dinner. We also see that Trevor’s calorie intake for a day can be up to 2400 while Tori’s is only 1800.

Attachment 2 VS Attachment 5: In the Nutrients reports we can see the targets, average eaten, and statuses for nutrients, minerals, and vitamins for both Tori and Trevor. Trevor’s Nutrients has 8 Oks, 3

Overs, 3 under, and 5 no targets. His Minerals has 6 Oks, 2 under, and 1 over. His Vitamins has 5unders, 6 Oks, and 1 Over. Tori’s Nutrients has 2 Overs, 8 Oks, 3 Under, and 5 No targets. Her Minerals has 6 Oks, 2 Under, and 1 Over (Just like Trevor’s). Her Vitamins has 8 Oks, 3 Under, and 1Over.

Attachment 3 VS Attachment 6: For Food groups and Calories Trevor is under in 4 food groups and over in2. He is over in his average calories. These are the averages of the three days. For Tori she has #

overs in food groups, 1 OK in food groups, and 2 Under in food groups. She is over in her calories. These are all averages of all three days.

Conclusions / Further Considerations:

This analysis provided me with recommended nutritional information that I had not previously known for myself.

I now know that I am not eating the way that I should be when I thought that I was

This experiment has also taught me that, I need to make sure that I am getting a variety of different foods every day.

My challenges are eating dairy because I do not like it and eating too much grains like pasta.

I find that I am good at eating fruit every day.

Although I love vegetables it seems as though I do not take enough in.

I plan on trying to plan out meals based on the meal suggestions from the website.

I learned that Trevor doesn’t eat very many meals.

I learned that Trevor may be bigger than me but I eat throughout the whole day and he eats the second half of the day.

This report shows me that I didn’t have any idea how many nutrients and vitamins and minerals we need to be healthy

I thought that I was making healthy dinners for Trevor and I at home, but this lab report shows me that since we have our own personal weight gender and age, we both need different amounts of

nutrients throughout the day. Now I can take both of our nutrition needs into consideration
