Is this your first time performing in Kota Kinabalu? Have you been here before and how do you find it so far?Yes, its my first time performing here. I actually went to Sipadan island once and thats the closest Ive ever been to Kota Kinabalu. I like it here. I knew its gonna be nice, but Ive never thought that its going to be this nice.

We saw a couple of your EPs on your YouTube channel. Are we expecting a new album sometime soon?Yes, Im working on my new album now and Im working closely with harmonica legend Magic Dick the amazing blues guy. So, expect my album to come out anytime this year.

Now, who could you say is your muse?I love Michael Jackson, Tuck Andress, James Brown and Ray Charles, all those amazing guys.

Why did you pick up guitar? For starters, Ive always hated school and Im not really fond of gymnastics. But when my gym mate brought guitar into the gym, I almost immediately fell in love with guitars. From then on, I was determined to learn how to play guitar.

At what age did you start thinking to yourself hey, I can sing too?I think I was 19 when one day I just sung, and I told my dad, Hey, dad! I think I could also sing. I just continue on singing from there and learn from all of the amazing singers.

SHUN NGShun who?Shun Ng is a Chicago-born incredible musician and singer who also grew up in Singapore. At the tender age of 8 he was diagnosed with dyslexia and faced challenges with reading and numbers. But, soon enough he found himself doing well in gymnastics as he competed nationally at 10. As the years pass him by he found a whole lotta passion in music when his gym mate brought a guitar to the gym and on his 14th birthday, he got a guitar from his dad as his birthday gift. Ever since then, he has been working so hard with music, learning how to read and write music notes as well as developing his technical skills on the guitar even further. Shun then went to Music & Audio Technology at Singapore Polytechnic where he explored a whole new world of music and experimenting with genres like Latin, European Classical, Jazz, Funk, Motown & Soul. He obtained his degree in Music & Audio Technology there before serving for his requisite National Service. His music career started to pick up after he recorded his debut album Funky Thumb Stuff. We recently caught up with Shun Ng at Sabahs BunyiGitar expo.
