  • JADE SISTER DIDI MOO is competing in a talent search called MBC Star Audition, run by Koreas national broadcasting network. Didi is in the last 5 of a list of foreign candidates, which began at over 500. She performed her songs in Korean and danced the sumazau on national Korean tv.

The judges talked in Korean, I didnt understand. Then they pressed their voting buttons, and I saw that I got through, said Didi. Datuk Masidi Manjun, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Sabah, read this news and was very quick to email a response to SabahSongs. "Convey my congratulations to her. I am very proud of her achievement and wish her continued success in the competition. As a token of my Ministry's appreciation of her effort in 'selling' Sabah to the Koreans I have asked my Permanent Secretary to approve and issue a cheque of 2,000 ringgit to Didi Moo to enable her prepare for the next round of competition," he said.

  • Di Hari Raya and Selamat Hari Raya (Lagu Bajau) (Composer/lyrics: SH. Kassim Bin Sh. Indun)

In Di Hari Raya the KidZ sing about meeting relatives, having fun, and how this is a time to forgive and strengthen the bonds between each other. They describe radiant faces, and wounded souls being healed as the seeds of love are sown again. Blaqzs voice is warm, there are sweet guitar solos, and tinkling pretty riffs from Moks keyboards throughout.

Selamat Hari Raya (Lagu Bajau) has more of an edge. The melody has a Middle Eastern quality about it. Theres a really nice acoustic guitar solo done in gambus style. Blaqz is a versatile singer, this is quite a different style from the first song.

And I can hear some rock guitar .

To make a song for the people you love is a wonderful gift. The KIdZ from Kudat have made us TWO gifts! How lucky we all are. TQ KIdZ.

  • Blues singer JOHNNY TOFT. Understand your voice, pick up a style of your own.

He cast his mind back Lets see now. Going back to end of 64, I joined in the Talentime competition, I was 16+. We had a group called The Lost Safaris. In that band we had Charles Wong, the elder brother of James Wong, the famous Malaysian footballer. Charlie we used to call him. Thomas Tham or Tham Ping Fook he was playing bass. On drums we had Matthew Koshy, and Martin Pereira came in from Singapore. He later became a famous producer for Anita Sarawak, Malaysian singer Sudirman, and Teresa Teng. After Talentime we changed our groups name to Marksman.

The first song I ever sung on stage was A Hard Days Night, and that was in the Talentime. But as the band Marksman, we concentrated mostly on the jazz line, because we were employed by the Jesselton Sports Club, which was mainly dominated by people from England, and they liked the old-time jazz, and dance

numbers like foxtrot and all that.

We did instrumentals as well as vocals: Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Nat King Cole. Songs from those guys. That was basically my roots, although there was also a lot of Beatles.
