Dubbed as the longest running non-government film festival in Malaysia, KK International Film Festival (KKIFF) is now in its fifth year that could only mean one thing and one thing only; KKIF will be hosting more substantial movie screening events than ever! This year all of the KKIFF events will be hosted at GC Woolley Hall, sponsored by Sabah State Museum and supported by SPArKS and SEDIA.

This years KKIFF will also be screening two Malaysia premieres of documentaries made by and about the people of Sabah and Sarawak - Dusty Trail: Summit of Borneo is a moving story about a group of people who climbed Mt. Kinabalu to raise funds for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Writer and director of the film, Cath Jayasuria, who said that she was inspired by her son

Dusty, will be present at the premier screening for a Q&A session.

The Red Rain on the Equator, the second Malaysia premiere, which was selected for the Yamagata Documentary Film Festival in 2011, features original footage of the history of Sarawak as well as interviews with the communist insurgents from the 1970s.

The annual filmmakers competition hosted by KKIFF is also back for its fourth year with THINK as this years theme. Hassan Muthalib and Wong Tuck Cheong, both from KL will be mentoring at a workshop where selected entries will be shown and discussed. Three winners will be announced and their films will be screened on June 9th, where two movie appreciation workshops will also be held (June 8-9th).

Experimental movies from the KL Experimental Film and Video Festival, featuring short films made by students from the Czech Republic as their graduation work and by young people from KK and Malaysia-wide will also be screened during KKIFF.

A new feature in this years KKIFF is the Sabah Film Academy, where an international team of teachers will be working with ten Sabahan filmmakers to make two short movies over 48 hours both films will be screened also on June 9th at 8PM as part of the KKIFF 2013 Awards Night.

I am a Kadazan myself and I love festivities - one of the reasons why is because it is a public holiday! Other than that, all my friends and family that are studying or working outside of town will come home for the holiday and we would celebrate the festivity together. Festivities help to sustain our love for our culture, tradition and bonding time with our loved ones. You can find a lot of different festivals in KK. This issue, we ask our readers what they love most about Kaamatan. A friendly reminder to our beloved readers, party hard but stay safe, okay! Kotobain tadau tagazo do kaamatan!

  • Hi-waist pants are probably the most unattering style of clothing ever. The only people who could possibly carry them o were the extremely skinny model types. Sadly the remaining 99% of the population didnt seem get the memo. Women of all shapes, sizes and heights tried desperately to rock this look and most failed miserably.

    HI-WAIST PANTS

Leggings are nice if worn under a skirt or dress. But I just dont understand why suddenly someone decided they could replace pants with leggings and became such a fashionable thing to wear? Didnt anyone realize that leggings is not a type of pants and they were actually displaying everything waist down?

    LEGGINGS

To be honest, I just dont get it why lensless glasses even made it to be trendy? Theres a reason why reading glasses was invented and what is the point wearing it without the lens on? First spotted on Tokyo's ber-cool Harajuku girls, who adopted lensless frames to stop their ridiculously long lashes brushing against the glasses, this pointless trend has sadly gone global. Please, make it stop!

    LENSLESS GLASS

I used to follow trends and try to do exactly what I saw in the magazines, but I'm not a Victoria's Secret model who can wear anything. -Khloe Kardashian

5 OF THE WORST FASHION TRENDS

Like many other trends in the world, fashion has its highs and lows too and not to mention some of the worst fashion disasters too! But trends, which were unattering, tacky or just plain gross, unexpectedly became hugely popular! Thankfully most of them are on their way out, but others still remain in the fashion scene - I cant understand why?! So, lets check out and review some of the worst fashion trends of the decade.

Shoulder pads were very popular among women in the 80s. But for some reason the trend is back and gained popularity among fashionistas. Personally, I think it was ridiculous then and t is no less ridiculous now. Why oh why would girls need big shoulders that make them look like Frankenstein? Not attractive at all.

    SHOULDER PADS

For safety purposes, neon colors are the best choice to choose. But, for fashion its a big no-no. Unless youre auditioning for Teletubbies that is. Seriously boys and girls, this is NOT a attering color at all.

    NEON COLORS

Zooey Deschanel is gorgeous, talented, intelligent, quirky and definitely a fashionista to look out for. Her 60s style is beyond amazing and every girl secretly wants to look just like her! Here are a few tips and tricks to get Zooeys adorable 60s vibes.

    GET THE LOOK: ZOOEY DESCHANEL

TIP:60s makeup is all about the eyes. Apply a thick eyeliner to make a statement and

the rest, keep it clean and natural.
