FROM THE DESK OF OUR COLLEGE PRINCIPAL Value for October‐Tolerance We have a firm commitment to teaching a Values Program at our College. The Value for October is Tolerance. The slogan that we have developed for Tolerance is “Be a Mate and Tolerate”. In teaching tolerance to your children we will have a focus on the following: • be aware of others and their cultures • accept diversity within or democra c society • be included and include others We will be teaching your children the importance of understanding that people are different physically, socially, culturally and that acceptance of difference with compassion, understanding and empathy encourages toler-ance within our school culture. It is now a great me to reinforce tolerance with your children and of course the best way is to model tolerant behaviour yourself. Parents & Friends I would like to invite you to come along to the next mee ng of the Baden Powell College Parents & Friends. This mee ng will be held at the Derrimut Heath Campus on Monday the 14th of November at 7pm. It is fine to bring along your children. At this mee ng we will be talking about the par cular fundraising projects that have been conducted in 2016 and planning ahead for 2017 and it would be great to get your views as to whether we should introduce new projects. Should be keep the Subway lunches, Chocolate Drive and the stalls? Come along and help make decisions about the future. Star ng the New Year early for years 7‐9 I am excited to share a new ini a ve that we are star ng at Baden Powell College. This year for the first me we are conduc ng an Early Start to the Year Ahead for our secondary students. In the week beginning the 12th of December students from year 6 who are coming to the Tarneit Campus and those already at the Campus will start their Year 7 journey and as well the year7 students will begin learning the content of the Year 8 curriculum and so for the students going into Year 9. We believe that this early start will be er prepare the students for 2017 and allow them to do some relevant reading and inquiry based work in January. Scholarship Program for Year 7 The College Council has approved a new Scholarship Ini a ve for our College. Early next year we will offer an opportunity for students in Year 6 to apply for a full fee scholarship for Years 7-9 at Baden Powell College. To be successful students will need to sit an examina on, provide character references indica ng leadership commitment and experience and sit an interview. Further details will be available to families with children in Year 6 in February 2017 with successful recipients of the scholarship commencing in Year 7 in 2018. Wyndham 1000 A fabulous Werribee iden ty, Les Porter, father of the lovely Jacinta Porter who works in our administra on ar-ea and member of Wyndham Rotary has commenced the annual Wyndham 1000 Bike Ride. Les rides a specially modified cycle around the Wyndham Bike Track each week day during the month of October to raise money for the Salva on Army. The last few years, as a College we have supported this ini a ve and through the Earlyact and Interact Club we are seeking to collect a “1000 cans for 1000 kilometres”. Homeless people in Wyndham will benefit from this project and really we would like to have cans with a pull off top as this makes it easier for our most disadvantaged people to actually take a can and have a meal. I trust that you will help us to achieve our goal of 1000 cans for Les! You can find out more by doing a Google search or checking Facebook and search-ing Wyndham 1000. Payments by BPay Don’t forget you can pay for school ac vi es via Bpay? Please contact the office for your families unique reference number”.
