to plug in, but one significant way you can bless the church is simply to be in worship with us! On Sunday, September 14th, we will have a powerful time of worship at all the services — 8:00 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. I will be bringing a message as an introduction to THE STORY series we are going to be going through this Fall called, “His Story, Your Story, Our Story”. At 9:30 a.m., we will have a Brunch for everyone (so come early or stay after worship), with games for the kids, a rock wall, and a jump house. In addition, at The Brook, we will have a special time, after worship, for fel-lowship and s’mores out at the fire ring. We would love to have everyone make it a priority to be in Sunday School every week beginning this Fall! We have classes and activities for all ages from Preschool through Adults, so don’t miss out on this special hour of teaching, beginning September 21st, from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. I look forward to beginning this Fall season with you and going through the Bible together in THE STORY series! Thanks for being such a great congregation. I am so blessed to be your pastor! Blessings, P. Mark

Upcoming Important Informational Meeting Christ The King will be presenting a very important informa-tional meeting for the congregation on the status of our Preschool. The meeting, originally scheduled for August 31st, will now be held on Sunday, September 7th, in the Fellowship Hall at 9:30 a.m. between services. In 1994, the congregation voted to establish a preschool at Christ The King, provided that it would be self-supporting. However, the Preschool is currently experiencing some financial issues. The Church Council has explored several options concerning the opera-tion of the Preschool, and is seeking direction from the congregation prior to taking further action. A special Congregational Meeting will be held at a future date, following this informational meeting, to allow the congregation to vote on this topic. Please plan to attend this very important meet-ing as the church leadership wants to provide ample opportunity to educate the congregation on the status of our Preschool, as well as to receive input and direction prior to the congregational vote.

On Thursday, September 11th at 1:00 p.m., we will begin a NEW 13-week session of Grief Share. Grief Share is a Christ-centered program, but does not exclude anyone. This group is open to the whole community and surrounding areas. Workbooks are $17 each. For more information, contact Liz Briel.

LAUBACH CLASSES TO BEGIN

Fall is just around the corner, and Christ the King will again offer ESL and general reading classes to all residents in the Fallbrook area on Monday nights, beginning September 15th, from 7:00-8:30 p.m. in the Fireside Room. Have you ever had a secret desire to teach? You now have the opportunity! Our tutors do not necessarily need teaching experience, because they are given 12 hours of training and all necessary instructional materials. Tutors must speak fluent English, and “have empathy for the adult learner trying to acquire a new language” and be available for the required hours each week. Because only English is spoken in the classes, tutors do not need to also know their students’ native languages. Tutors will be assigned 1-3 students. Students are given an assessment test, so everyone in the group is at the same level. The next Tutor Training will be Saturday, August 30th, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Community Room of the Poway Library. The training is FREE and is hosted by the Laubach Literacy Council of San Diego County and the San Diego County Library. Whether you participate as a student or tutor, you will find the experience and the friendships you make, very rewarding. For more information, contact Pat Hensley at [email protected].

God goes to great lengths to rescue lost and hurting people. That is what THE STORY is all about — the story of the Bible, God’s great love affair with humanity. Condensed into 31 accessible chapters, THE STORY sweeps you into the unfolding progression of Bible characters and events from Genesis to Revelation. Using the clear, accessible text of the NIV Bible, it allows the stories, poems and teachings of the Bible to read like a novel. And like any good story, THE STORY is filled with intrigue, drama, conflict, romance, and redemption — and this story’s true! THE STORY will begin on Sunday, September 21st. The studies are based on Scripture, and taken straight from the Bible. We are urging each member of the congregation to join in this church-wide study by listen-ing to the message on Sunday morning or evening, then meeting with an existing Small Group, by forming a NEW Small Group, or by coming to church on Wednesday evenings to study in a group. Wednesday evenings are for the whole family, from 6:00-7:30 p.m. During Sundays in September, there will be a booth on the Patio where you may obtain further information, buy books for the study, and/or sign up for a Small Group study. If you have questions, you may also contact either Sally Snyder at [email protected], or Marjorie Ro-tunda at [email protected].

NEW FALL WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY! The Tuesday morning Women's Bible study will start back up this Fall on Tuesday, September 16th at 10:00 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. The class will conclude on Tuesday, November 11th, as we all take a break for the holidays. We will be digging into the books of First and Second Thessaloni-ans, in a new study by Beth Moore called, “Children of the Day.” This title is based on the verse in 1 Thessalonians 5:5, “You are all children of the light and children of the day."“ Whether we are grocery shopping, strolling through a park, or grabbing a coffee, we are never without His light. The New Testament believers carried the Spirit of God as they walked along the shores of Thessalonica, just as we carry that Light today. This is a nine-session study, with discussion and a DVD teaching at each class meeting. There is some homework, if you choose to participate in it. The study is designed with five levels of participation, so there will be a level that will fit everyone. WARNING...Level Five asks you to memorize both books! We will see if we have any takers! CONFESSION! I won't be doing it! The books will cost $20, payable at the first class. For more infor-mation and/or to request a book, email me at [email protected]. I hope you had a wonderful summer, and that you will be ready for a refreshing new Bible study in the Fall! In Him, Sharon Koehler

GRACE: MORE THAN WE DESERVE;

GREATER THAN WE IMAGINE Grace is the voice that calls us to change and then gives us the power to pull it off. Don’t settle for a wimpy grace. On Thursday, September 25th at 6:00 p.m. in the Fireside Room, we will begin a seven-week study by Max Lucado. Cost per book is $6 each. Join us as we journey to discover the depth of God’s grace! Contact: Ellen Witzel, [email protected].

Beginning on Thursday, September 4th, from 9:00-11:00 a.m. in the Fireside Room, Women’s Dis-cipleship Journey will begin a small group experience on Dr. Jeremiah’s study called, “Revealing the Myster-ies of Heaven”. We will look at life here on earth differently as we ask

eleven critical questions about heaven. These questions will be addressed from a biblical perspective. The cost of the member book is $12. There are only a few spots remaining, so please contact Christi Brotherton to reserve a place: [email protected].

CHRIST THE KING PRESCHOOL

Here we are back in school, and we are so excited about this new year! We now have 23 children enrolled, many of whom are grandchildren of CTK members! How fun is it to stop by church and hear your grandchild's laughter on the playground. This Fall, we are adding iPads to the 4 and 5 year old classroom to make sure that they are on the top of their game when entering Kindergar-ten. We are able to do this, because many of you bring in your Major Market receipts — and Major Market sends us a nice check totaling 1% of those receipts. We are SO thankful to YOU and Major Market! As the Preschool grows, we continue to have several needs. There is always a need for snacks and supplies: String Cheese, Go-gurt, Crack-ers, Fruit, Paper Towels and Spic and Span. In addition, we are so grate-ful to a wonderful person who weeded our garden beds! The ground in the beds is very hard, and we now need to turn the soil. Do you have a rototil-ler that we may use for our four garden boxes on the playground?!? Also, we have a big dream for a mud pie kitchen (see the above picture) on the playground. We can buy the materials (thanks to our Major Market receipts), but don’t have the know-how to build it. All we have is the above picture, but no specs. Let us know if you can help! Praise Report: We have been praying for a teacher for the two year old class — the prayer warriors here at church were praying, as well! Julie Trafford walked in, met Liz Briel, and asked if there were any teaching posi-tions open (she had been a two year old teacher previously — and loves them!). Julie shared that God had told her to stop by our school. Please be sure to welcome Julie, our brand new teacher for the two year olds!

Thank you for your love and support! Margo Roberts and Staff

It has been another amazing, inspirational summer here at Christ The King. Like many of the past summers, members of CTK determined a need, formed a team, and set out on a mission to serve and be a blessing. This year it was to Belize, and on Belize Sunday we were able to witness first hand, the joy and the impact this mission trip had made on the Belize Team. We on the Mission Committee, are so thankful we are a part of such a mis-sion-minded congregation! Also on that same Sunday, John Lar-son, our co-chair from Missions, gave a wonderful Temple Talk, explaining the purpose of our Mission Committee and invited those who are interested to become a part of our team. Please consider joining us. We were also blessed this summer to have Linda Baglien home with us for several weeks. Some of her family are long-time members at CTK. Her brother, Pastor Paul Baglien, did an amaz-ing job covering one of the Sundays that our Pastors were away on their Mission trip to Belize. Linda also attended one of our Mis-sion Committee meetings and shared with us her experiences of sharing the Lord with some of her students who have reached out to her while she teaches at a university in China. We were also very happy to hear from Toni Brown about the progress being made at the orphanages we've supported in Kenya. We now have the ability to provide help in building a High School, where there was once only an elementary school! GOD IS SO GOOD! Our prayers go out to all who are struggling in these countries, that they feel God's presence amidst these trials. Immanuel..."God With Us!" Natalie Rhyne Missions Committee

ALL SAINT’S SUNDAY

On November 2nd, we will celebrate All Saints Sunday.

This will be a time when we recognize those loved ones who have gone to be with the Lord

this past year, If you would like the name of your loved one recognized, please let us know. We will need their name, as well as their birth and death dates. A very special service is planned. Contact: Diane at [email protected].

THE BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS There are many events coming up this Fall that we would like you to be a part of. Last year, we celebrated The Blessing of the Animals, which was started by St. Francis of Assisi. He believed that all God’s creations reveal something about the nature of God and His love.

Bring your animals again for a blessing on Saturday, October 11th at 9:30 a.m. for a short message and blessing given by Pastor Mark. Animals need blessings just as we do, so please join us. For more information, contact Diane Erickson at [email protected].

Become a Mentor in the Fallbrook GANAS Mentoring Program

The Mentoring Program runs throughout the school year and is divided into three 11-week sessions with a break between each session. Once a week, for an hour and a half, the mentors engage a small group of 9-14 year olds in activities. If you are interested in learning more about our programs, please join us on Tuesday, September 9th, anytime between 3:00 and 5:30 p.m., at Score-board Pizzeria, Fallbrook.
