COURSE DESCRIPTION The Bachelor of Information Technology (BInfoTech) is a career-oriented degree for aspiring Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and Business Information Systems (BIS) professionals. The course is consistent with professional and industry standards as recommended by the Australian Computer Society and international ICT bodies, such as IEEE and ACM. The first year of the Bachelor of Information Technology provides a general grounding in core business topics such as management, marketing and law. The second year concentrates on foundation information technology topics including systems analysis, databases and programming, while in the third year, students will choose a professional pathway from industry-relevant choices such as business analysis, applications development or database administration. The course has a strong focus on practical knowledge and skills with the final year including a full-year project to prepare students for transition from study to professional practice in industry and the public service. The project requires both team and individual work to achieve industry-standard outcomes. All units are offered in mixed online and on-campus mode. PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE Students will participate in two forms of community engagement in the BInfoTech. Initially, this will be through participation in community-based activities to broaden the context of learning. In your third year students will self-evaluate and reflect upon their personality, professional skills, future careers and ongoing professional development. Students will be mentored, possibly by an ICT professional external to the University, and produce ePortfolios containing evidence of their professional capabilities, aspirations and career plans. PROFESSIONAL ACCREDITATION Graduates are eligible for professional level accreditation with the Australian Computer Society.
