Why Are We Here?

Vision: Share Christ’s love with children, through the Gospel, guiding them by example to

love and serve Him.

Presenter
Presentation Notes
This is a mix of our church’s mission statement and Awana. It represents the sweet spot for our ministry here. The best way we can share Christ’s love is by sharing the Gospel. We can guide children by setting a Godly example. Never, ever forget that the children see everything, hear every tone, catch every non-verbal gesture. And they are weighing all of that against the One whom you represent.

Impact on Your Clubbers?

• Proclaim the Gospel with URGENCY and CLARITY

• Isaiah 55:11 So shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.

Presentation Notes
God tells us time and again of the importance of His word. The scripture memorization is not just busy work, it’s not just a way to get rewards. It’s meant to accomplish the purpose that God has ordained for it. Remember this when working with child or considering whether a child should be signed off.

Why is Awana Important?

• Deut 32:46 he said to them, “Take to heart all the words by which I am warning you today, that you may command them to your children, that they may be careful to do all the words of this law.

• Decisions for Christ – Age 5 – 13 have a 32% Probability – Ages 14 – 18 have a 4% Probability

Presenter
Presentation Notes
We’re reminded in Deuteronomy of our obligation to teach children, indeed even to share the very same warnings we’re given. The facts are that the probability of a child coming to know Christ as his or her savior drops dramatically after they leave Awana. We have got to make that connection here and now.

Greatest Impact

• 1 Peter 5:8 Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

• Children have eternal souls, most precious to God. They will be grown in the blink of an eye.

• You can influence their destiny. • FIGHT FOR THE CHILDREN OF PALMETTO

AND OUR CHURCH!

Presenter
Presentation Notes
We are building the future Awana volunteers, church leaders and missionaries. The enemy hates this and will try to thwart us. Interpersonal conflict, apathy, inaction, low standards, frustration are his tools. We cannot afford to let him gain a foothold in our ministry. These precious, little children’s souls hang in the balance. Don’t forget that.

Gospel Wheel

Gospel

Presenter
Presentation Notes
This is a practical tool for sharing the gospel. You have a copy, with instructions in your handout. Try to use this at least once per week. Use the word trust. Come into my heart, save, and other words like that can be taken literally.

Rules

• Matthew 22:37-39 “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.”

Presenter
Presentation Notes
This should be the biblical basis for all of our rules. Teach it to the children in your large group times and reinforce it when you have to address a problem. Was that behavior done in love? Is that action how you would treat yourself? Do not address the child, address the behavior.

Policies • Child Protection

– Never be alone with a child – Appropriate physical contact – Have concerns, don’t be afraid to ask

• Budget – Need something? Ask.

• Allergies – Know them!

• Phones – Minimum, private

• Participation – Be involved. Be there. – Games

Presenter
Presentation Notes
Child Protection: Best is another adult, ok is another child, never alone. Do not pick a child up, do not touch without permission, reciprocate appropriately. Budget: We’re using it all. Want to buy something… just ask. Allergies: We’re going to do our best to get allergy lists in your books. It’s your responsibility to know them. Phones: You should not be using phones during Awana. If you need to do so in private. We need to set an example for phone usage. Participation: I’ve already talked about the important role you play in the life of these children. Do your best to be here and be present. The phone policy is a part of that. Another part of that is participating in games. All volunteers should participate in games an be ready to assist the games director. The games are NOT solely the responsibility of the games director. You are partners in game time.

Listening/Sign Off

• Rules • Take an interest • Work with the same children each week • Praise progress, assist those who are

behind • Remind about pacer • Don’t be afraid to say NO. • Helps

Presenter
Presentation Notes
Understand what you’re doing when you are listening and preparing to sign off. Read the entire preceding lesson to understand the goal of the sign off. It’s not just verses. Try to ensure the child understands the verse. Rote memorization does not necessarily accomplish Isaiah 11:55.

Discipline

• Use the 5 Count • Closed Toe/Heel Shoes • Bring to our Attention

– Consistent Handbook Problems – Repeat Offenders

• Remember to have FUN – Foolish vs Childish

Presenter
Presentation Notes
Do not shush or tell the children to be quiet. The 5 count should be done, as many times as necessary. This provides consistancy. Enforce the shoe rule for games. Child should sit out if they don’t have the appropriate shoes. The first night is a freebie. Bring anything to our attention that affects your ministry. If a child is repeatedly forgetting their handbook, disruptive, etc let us know. We will try to help. Remember that we are dealing with children. We want to foster a fun healthy environment. If there is a problem try to determine whether the child is being foolish (willful disobedience, intentional disruption) or childish (goofing off or playing around).

More Leaders?

• Directors/Commanders – Open Opportunity

• Invitations • Recruiting Drive!

Presenter
Presentation Notes
We want to open up leadership positions to all. Not because our leaders are doing a bad job, but because we love them! It should be the goal of every commander and director to train their replacement. This will share the burden and prevent burn out. Please pray about what God would have you do in Awana. If you’re a current leader, please pray about who might eventually succeed you or with whom you might rotate. If anyone feels called to participate please let us know and we can all pray together. We all want more help! Studies show that the number one way to recruit new volunteers is to ask them directly. Pray about who you know who might want to participate in Awana. Ask them to come be a part of what we’re doing here. After the New Year we’re going to have a recruiting drive. We’ll have a night where you can invite someone who might be on the fence and with the Lord’s blessing sign up new volunteers that YOU’VE brought to Awana.

Student Leaders

• We’re Glad You’re Here! – Sign In – Flexibility – Interaction

• Phone! – Behavior

Presenter
Presentation Notes
We love student leaders! Please be sure to stop in the office each night you’re here and sign in. This is now the ONLY way to get your volunteer hours. If you don’t sign in, no hours! Please be flexible with where we might have you work. While we desire you to serve consistently, you may potentially be in a different room, age, position as needed. That is part of your role here. As a student leader you are expected to be fully engaged with the children. Play with them, interact with them and be involved. You should never be standing on the sideline watching or using your phone. Understand that as a student leader you are also expected to model appropriate behavior to the children. They will look up to you just as much if nor more than the adults. Always remember that their eyes are watching every thing you do.

We’ll be collecting for Adopt-A-Club again! After last year’s success we’re excited to see what’s in store for this year. At the Pack-a-sack ministry’s request we’ll be collecting early in the Awana year. Please follow us on Facebook an encourage your parents to do the same. It’s the easiest place to get a message out quickly. We have NOT assigned duties or firmed up directors. Please be patient next week. You will probably serve where you did last year, but we may ask some of you to move, based on need. Please be flexible with us. We appreciate you guys so much. You’ll note that on the calendar the week after the awards ceremony is a volunteer appreciation event. It’s on the calendar so it’s got to happen!
