Each year, the Chamber provides this free lunch, offering foods purchased from local Chamber members.

Thank you to our Board Members and Ambassadors who took time out of their day to help us prepare and serve the food. Also thank you to Bishopp Appliances for the use of a refrigerator, Mark Concrete Products for their services, Giant 96 for broadcasting live, Brewer Machine and Manufacturing for the use of their grill and Bob Evans Restaurant for the donation of cole slaw. Member SpotlightOn Saturday, July 12, Walker Place celebrated their grand re-opening with a ribbon cutting. Formally known as Walker House, they provide a pet-friendly, homelike setting conveniently located across the street from the Intelliplex Medical Center at 2216 North Riley Highway. They develop individual care plans to meet the needs of each resident, and a full-time registered nurse is available 24 hours a day to provide clinical oversight and coordination of care. Their residents engage in stimulating activities, such as tai chi, bingo, chair dancing, card and board games, and fireside chats. They also take invigorating trips to local parks, shopping outlets, movie theaters, golf courses, and casinos.

The Enlivant EnvironmentSince 1981, when Enlivant’s first community opened, they have delivered a pioneering approach to assisted living designed to give residents a supportive, stimulating environment where they will thrive in mind, body, and spirit.

In every Enlivant assisted living community, they work to meet each resident’s unique needs, with quality care and an environment that offers a sense of belonging for residents, as though they are a member of a family. The compassionate staff works to help residents maintain their wellbeing, form meaningful connections, and engage with the things they care about. They begin with a thorough health and wellness assessment that helps to become deeply familiar with each resident. They pair residents with dedicated Resident Care Partners, who know their needs and learn their preferences. They are committed to providing the specific care each resident requires to flourish. In each community, a full-time registered nurse oversees care and is on call around the clock.

Their apartments offer privacy, comfort, and room for personal treasures and are steps away from the amenities and life enrichment activities. Most of their community buildings are a single story and feature private courtyards, where residents can go outdoors to relax, socialize, and enjoy fresh air and sunshine. They respect the culture and personality that forms in each one of their communities. Because the communities are more intimate than many, with an average of 40 to 60 apartments per location, they are able to tailor programs to the interests and abilities of the residents. They help residents do the things they’ve always loved, or find new interests, make friends, and rekindle their own spark.

The Enlivant Approach to CareAt Enlivant, they believe there are many dimensions to wellbeing. That is why they provide their residents with attentive, individualized care to help them thrive in mind, body and spirit.

Clinical Care and Assistance for Daily LivingDelivering quality care requires understanding what that means for each resident. For every new resident, theycomplete a thorough health assessment, which provides the starting point for an individual care plan. In every assisted living community, care is delivered by a full-time registered nurse and a team of Resident Care Partners. Enlivant assisted living communities are staffed around the clock, and the registered nurse in each community is available 24 hours a day to provide clinical oversight and coordination of care.

Walker Place’s care includes: •Assistance with activities of daily living, including dressing, bathing, and dining •Nursing oversight •Care for chronic conditions like diabetes •Medication management •Housekeeping and laundry •Apartment maintenance and repairsSelect communities also coordinate with physicians and other health professionals to provide on site services.

They assist residents with mild cognitive impairments and memory loss in their day-to-day activities and offer programming to meet their individual needs and interests. In some Enlivant communities, they do provide secured special care dementia units.

Amenities and ActivitiesCommunities are designed to create intimate, vibrant settings where residents make meaningful connections and participate in invigorating activities. Walker Place

respects the culture of each community, and plan activities to meet the wants and needs of the residents. So, while no two communities offer the same programming, all offer activities that stimulate mind and body. Some of the activities offered in Enlivant locations across the country include:

•Strength and balance classes utilizing yoga and Qi gong •Exercise and chair fitness classes •Game activities like bingo, card, and board games •Social events, such as Family night, Movie night, Welcome parties •Music and cultural events •Educational and wellness lectures •Church services •As well as other resident centric clubs and activities •Most communities offer scheduled transportation to nearby activities like shopping, dining, and cultural events.

For more information on Walker Place, an Enlivant community, call (317) 392-3370.

Member SpotlightWinner’s Circle Race Book Concept Expands to Shelbyville with Aim to Grow Horse Racing Fan Base

Shelbyville, Ind. – July 10, 2014 – Indiana Grand Racing & Casino officially opened the Winner’s Circle Brewpub & OTB Thursday morning and welcomed guests with fanfare. It started with an official call to post by Hoosier Park Racing & Casino’s bugler, Mason Chappell, and was immediately followed by a grand entrance onto the casino floor by retired Thoroughbred racehorse, Nice and Easy. The Shelbyville Winner’s Circle Brewpub & OTB, located just off Indiana Grand’s casino floor, is the second remodeled and rebranded off-track betting location following the opening of the downtown Indianapolis Winner’s Circle Pub, Grille, & OTB in December 2011.

The Las Vegas-style race book concept, which has found success with both new and loyal horse racing fans through the flagship downtown Indianapolis location, offers guests an appealing and visually interactive environment featuring the best in live horse racing and daily sports action. The Winner’s Circle serves a wide variety of Indiana micro-brewed beers and local wines in addition to an artfully crafted menu featuring items made from locally sourced ingredients.

One of the first guests to enjoy lunch at the new Winner’s Circle Brewpub & OTB was Tyson Conrady of Shelbyville. “The menu selection is fantastic and full of great flavors,” said Conrady. “The atmosphere is electric and with the selection of horse racing and sports displayed around the room, there isn’t a bad seat in the place.”

The 9,600 square foot Winner’s Circle Brewpub & OTB displays more than 80 HDTV flat screen televisions and a 15 by 20 foot television screen focal point featuring all U.S. major horse racing venues and sporting events. With a capacity to seat 230 guests, the facility offers both self-serve and manned mutuel stations. Guests may also use FastBet Mobile wagering to place bets from their tablet and mobile phone devices throughout the Winner’s Circle and the Indiana Grand Racing & Casino property.

“The Winner’s Circle concept is proving successful as it continues to introduce the sport of horse racing to new fans while still appealing to our loyal guests,” said Jim Brown, Centaur Gaming’s President, COO, and Indiana Grand General Manager. “With this second location, we are looking to continue that trend by further broadening the appeal of horse racing as an entertainment option.”

About Indiana Grand Racing & Casino: Indiana Grand Racing & Casino holds multiple awards from industry publications for customer service, entertainment, gaming, racing, and dining. Indiana Grand, located in Shelbyville, Indianan features more than 2,200 of the latest slots and electronic table games as well as a 1-mile oval horse track offering live Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racing each year. Member SpotlightShelby County Fair Association Celebrates New Grandstand with Dedication

On June 29, the Shelby County Fair Association celebrated the new grandstand at the Shelby County Fairgrounds, located at 500 Frank Street, with a dedication ceremony and ribbon cutting. The new brick grandstand replaces the 133 year-old wooden structure that burned down on May 19, 2012.

The dedication ceremony included remarks from Mike Freeman of Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, who is currently president of the Shelby County Fair Association. Remarks were also made by Mayor Tom DeBaun; Kevin Nigh, President of the Shelby County Commissioners; and Tom Debaun, County Councilman. All three reiterated that this project could not have been completed without the help of so many willing volunteers.

The 1500 seat grandstand was made possible by a direct donation of $250,000 from Centaur Gaming, the parent company of Indiana Grand Racing and Casino. Through a partnership with Centaur Gaming, the city of Shelbyville and the County, another $250,000 will be donated if the Shelby County Fair Association can raise a matching $250,000 through a community-wide fundraising campaign.

The grandstand cost approximately $2.3 million to complete and allows the Shelby County Fairground to offer Standardbred horse racing and larger outdoor entertainment and community events. For more information on the new grandstand, contact the Fair Office at (317) 392-1612.

The Shelby County Public Library’s Genealogy and History Department has officially relocated to the library’s annex, the Carnegie East Wing. The department provides housing for documentation dating as far back as 1820 for Shelby County and surrounding counties. It remains one of the largest sources of genealogy documentation in the state of Indiana. Library staff members are happy to help patrons with their ancestry research. Call 317-398-8144 to register for the next series of genealogy classes or stop in at your convenience to look through the department’s resources. Renovation continues at the Carnegie East Wing. We hope to make more room for the Genealogy and History Department, open a Friends of the Library used bookstore, and add office space in the upcoming year. Currently,

an adult computer lab, two public meeting rooms, and the Genealogy Department are open in the space. A special thank you to Mainstreet Shelbyville, Inc. for the façade grant funds. This money allowed us to replace windows in the Genealogy department. Help us complete the building by participating in the library’s Golf Skills Challenge on August 28 at Bear Chase Golf Club. Find registration details at myshelbylibrary.org.
