F R O M T H E P R E S I D E N TThe results of our member survey are complete and have been analyzed by our consultant, Jack Sullivan of Koplin & Kuebler. I very much appreciate the excellent participation from our membership. Your Board of Directors needs to hear what we are doing right and where we need improvement. We work hard to respond to all of our member’s needs, not just those we happen to hear from on the way to our meetings!

I also want to thank those who participated in our focus group meeting. Your input was excellent. However we were disappointed that more members did not participate in this opportunity. Therefore we will be offering another set of focus group meetings on July 18th. These meetings will be facilitated by our consultant, Jack Sullivan.

To encourage your candid input, members of the Board have not and will not be present at these sessions. We cannot be assured all issues have been covered with a list of written survey questions so please come out and let us hear from you. Remember it’s your club!

The following is the Membership Survey Report prepared by Jack Sullivan in its entirety:

M E M B E R S H I P S U R V E Y R E P O R T

O V E R V I E W An online questionnaire using Survey Monkey was made available to all club members and spouses in April 2013. The purpose of the survey was to measure the satisfaction level with the facilities and services offered by the Chartwell Golf and Country Club. A total of 236 members and spouses responded in the allotted time with 143 being male and 72 female. Of the respondents, 72 % were golfing members with the balance consisting of Tennis, Social and Non-resident members. Nearly eighty-one percent of the respondents have been a member for six years or more with 36% for greater than sixteen years. Forty-five percent of the respondents were between the ages of 26-54 and fifty percent between the ages of 64-74.

G E N E R A L The respondents expressed a high overall satisfaction for the Club. There was a high loyalty factor with nearly 97% of the respondents being likely to recommend Chartwell to a family member, friend or colleague. In the last twelve months 105 respondents have recommended the Club to a potential member. It was the opinion of those responding that non-members perceived Chartwell as being prestigious and traditional, yet welcoming and very family friendly. When asked what was most likely to attract someone to join Chartwell, the top responses were the golf course, overall service, dining and the swimming pool. Members described the areas of most importance to members as the golf course, dining and overall service.

O V E R A L L C L U B A R E A SOverall service throughout the Club was highly rated, yet 11% felt the clubhouse service needed improvement. The majority of the respondents rated the golf course conditions as above average to excellent and all golf services and programs received good comments. The condition of the pool, the feeling of safety and services and programs were rated highly, while the food quality and consistency at the pool was in need of improvement. The tennis facilities and programs and services also received good ratings except for the selection of the tennis merchandise available in the tennis pro shop.

D I N I N G With regard to the quality of food and beverage, a rating of average to excellent was given by 92% of the respondents while value for the price and efficiency of delivery was in need of improvement. Also only thirty percent listed the Club as their first choice for dining out.

C O M M U N I C AT I O N SThe majority of the respondents felt that the communications from the Club to the members were good. However, improvements were needed in the area of better understanding the needs the membership and transparency with regard to decisions made that effect the Club.

C O N C L U S I O NIn summary there is a high overall satisfaction with Chartwell by its members. They feel that the Club is welcoming and family friendly while maintaining its important traditions. In their opinion, the fees at the Club are fairly priced, yet value for the money paid is very important. There was a variety of opinions as to what facilities needed improvement, yet there was consensus that they must be undertaken keeping fiscal responsibility in mind. To bring the level of satisfaction even higher, a plan must be put in place to address the areas that were not rated as high as others. This plan must be communicated to the membership and constantly monitored to determine the level of success and satisfaction.

I’ve heard many many times already this season how beautiful the grounds are looking. What do you say when the golf course and the grounds look as good as they do this year? You say “thank you”. Thanks to Steve and his crew for their diligent efforts. For over a decade now, Steve Sweiderk has been with Chartwell through good times and bad. His experience with our unique conditions continues to build and that accumulated knowledge has translated into what is thus far, one of the prettiest seasons in recent memory. Of course, Mother Nature is also due some credit and there’s no telling what tomorrow may bring. Excessive heat, humidity, flooding rains or a myriad of other calamities all have their ways of wreaking havoc. So we’ll hope

for the best as the Summer season progresses and rest assured that Steve and his crew are capable of handling almost anything that comes across their path. If you should see Steve or any of their crew, be sure to say “thanks”. They tend to work behind the scenes, pre-dawn and out of your way. But that doesn’t mean they don’t appreciate your kind words. And don’t forget, we all have a part to play in

keeping our course and our club looking its best. Replace your divots, use the dirt mix

in your cart, repair ball marks on the greens and pick up the errant litter should you see

some. This is our club. Let’s all help keep it beautiful.

L E T T E R F R O M T H E G E N E R A L M A N A G E RThe summer is in full swing and boy has it come on fast. As expected every year activity in the clubhouse house has increased, however the activity at the pool has begun to take off. Member events such as the Adult Pool Party and the 4th of July party are just a couple of the fun and exciting events we have planned for the summer. Speaking of the pool, I would like to make mention of our new horseshoe pits and corn hole game. All toys and games can be checked out from the gate attendant. I would also like to tell all of our Chartwell Swimmers to have a great season. This season our swim team reached 120+ swimmers, the largest we’ve had in a long time. And of course none of this would have been possible if wasn’t for the efforts of our AWESOME Chartwell parents and volunteers. A special thank you to all of you who are helping to make this season a success!

As Members, much of our success will continue to fall in your hands. Your continuous feedback and support will be vital in helping Chartwell reach the next level. We will continue to hold Member Focus Groups, led by Jack Sullivan in order to direct your Board to continued success.

By now, I am sure many of you have met our first group of Interns: Taylor in Golf, Emily in the Clubhouse and Michael in Tennis. The intern program is a benefit for us as well as a great learning and building experience for our future professionals. This program will be built upon each year and goes far beyond a staffing program. The goal is to create a stream of young professionals that can help increase service levels while offering a unique opportunity for young adults.

Member communication is a vital conduit to the success of our events and information. Some might have noticed that we have begun a change to our communications. The Chatter has been moved to a local company for print and mailing. We are also working locally with a group for our web site as well. Chartwell has developed a Facebook and Linkedin page to showcase our events and updates, so please log in and like us!

G O L FJunior Golf has begun and once again we have a terrific turnout. The program has been slightly modified this season, to help your children become better at the game they’ve come to love. A much stronger emphasis has been put on instruction and the opportunity to put their hard practice to the test each day.

J U N I O R G O L F D AY SAs you’ve learned, the different classifications meet with the professional staff at their scheduled times on Jr. Golf mornings for instruction. This allows the groups to be much smaller, which gives our professional’s more time to work with each student. Following instruction, all golfers make their way to the golf course to play and practice proper etiquette.

J U N I O R G O L F W E E KWe are also very proud to introduce Junior Golf Week to the program for 2013! This is one week of concentrated instruction and play in the beginning of August. After a long week of hard practice, Jr. Golfers compete in our Annual Junior Club Championship.
