Its main purpose is the economic development of the Western Region of Puerto Rico with a focus on innovation and high tech industries.

State Agencies.• Use Vitec2 and PRTEC experience to complement

• MOU signed in December 2006 between UPRM, PRTEC, SBTDC and Primex to collaborate in the commercialization efforts of researchers.

• A Business Opportunity Profile (BOP) form was created to guide researchers in their efforts.

• 70 researchers participated in different activities. 10 of those are actively participating of the BOP process.

• Proposal submitted to Puerto Rico Science and Technology Trust Fund.

MOU signed between PRTEC and PR Tourism Company to:

• Support the establishment of small business

• Coordinate a unified training agenda with the Academia

• Support new hotel development in the Region and

• Provide assistance to municipal governments in their tourism strategic plans.

• Contributors: Universidad del Este in Cabo Rojo, and the Hormigueros Juanita Arenas Amphitheater, Internet Society of Puerto Rico

• Puerto Rico Community Foundation– New strategic alliance to be established with PRCF and

EDU-Deportes to service Western Region

• “Prensa Comunitaria”– Located their offices at VITEC2

• “Programa de Apoyo y Enlace Comunitario” (PAEC)– Supported the entity in strategic planning and revenue

generation activities.

• Conducted various meetings with Mayors and Municipal Government representatives and UPRM experts for the Department of Energy Block Grants.

• Serve as fiscal agent for ACEER (Alianza Comunitaria de Educacion en Energia Renovable).

• Various VITEC2 Tenants related to the Renewable Energy: RSE, CTT, GREEN FUELS & ENERGY.

• Submitted endorsement letters to various UPRM Renewable Energy Research Proposals.

• Coordinated meeting with VITEC2 Tenants and other web designers in order to select the webmaster of Mayaguez 2010.

• IT Consultant of the Organizing Committee is a VITEC2 Tenant.

• PRTEC is collaborating with the Organizing Committee and Tourism Company to identify new rooms available from private owners in the Region.
