Solar at Light Rail Facility On April 22, Earth Day, Valley Metro will recognize the completion of its new solar plant at the light rail Operations and Maintenance Facility in Phoenix.
• Facility’s new energy source is capable of generating 780 kW of energy annually, or enough electricity for 100 homes per year.
• Estimated to save approximately 16 percent ($100,000 average per year) in energy consumption.
• A Transit Investments for Greenhouse Gas & Emissions Reduction (TIGGER) federal grant helped fund construction and installation. 10
Stand Up 4 Transportation Parade On April 9, the state’s largest transportation vehicles were part of a special parade recognizing National Infrastructure Day. Following the parade, an event was held at Civic Space Park with the reading of the Governor's proclamation and remarks made by local, state and federal officials. Attendees signed the online pledge at Stand Up 4 Transportation to show support for long term, reliable federal transportation funding.
