Anistreplase leads amongst thrombolytics
THERAPY
Anistreplase appears to be a more effective thrombolytic than streptokinase or alteplase, in the experience of two Belgian researchers. when the outcome measured is coronary artery patency one month after treatment for MI.
In a small study. 73% of patients receiving 30U of anistreplase were occlusion free \'s 47.5% of those given streptokinase 1.5 million units and 31 % of recipients of alteplase IOOmg. Greater efficacy went hand in hand with an increased risk of serious ventricular arrhythmias. The occurrence of arrhythmia was associated with successful coronary artery reperfusion and therefore appears to be an indicator of effective thrombolysis.
All patients received heparin and aspirin after 6 hours. which, it was noted, may not be optimal for a maximal response to alteplase. Claessens J. Haseldonclcx C. Are the various thrombolytic agents equally effective in the treatment of acute transmural myocardial infarction? Japanese Heart Journal 33: 413-421. Jull992 80011\)444
