INTRODUCTION

TOXINS

Due to your particular health care concerns, your health-care practitioner has determined that the Allergy Elimination Diet of cleansing and nutrient support will benefit your health. This diet, which contains potentially specific allergenic foods, as well as detoxifying “medical food,” is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease, but to help you reach a new level of sustained health. Your choice in a knowledgeable health-care practitioner has brought you this far. Now it is your turn to follow this program as directed and see whether or not the Allergy Elimination Diet is the best choice for you.

Tens of thousands of toxic chemicals have been introduced into our environment and our diet whether or not we know it. We all have some level of exposure to these toxins, which result from contaminants in our food supply, alcohol, illicit and non-illicit drugs, as well as the substances our own bodies create. The typical American diet is high in fats and sugars. These habits, and the fact that many Americans eat a limited assortment of foods, can result in the development of allergies to common foods such as corn, wheat, soy, dairy, and eggs. Allergies and exposure to toxins in foods, water, and the environment are recognized as contributing factors in many health problems. Moreover, unhealthy diets and toxins provide inadequate nutrients for many metabolic processes, including detoxification. The organ that takes the greatest toll is the liver as it is in charge of detoxifying these foreign substances. In order to make the liver process these toxins at a higher rate, we need to provide our body with enough protein, nutrients, and botanicals, which are vital in liver function. Thus, we have the Allergy Elimination Diet and “medical food,” which will not only decrease your exposure to these toxins and allergens, but it will help your body cleanse.

MEDICAL FOOD

Medical food is composed of rice and pea protein powder with added vitamins, minerals, and special nutrients that aid in the detoxification process. Rice and pea proteins are used in the medical foods because individuals are rarely allergic to them. The powder contains a high concentration of protein to aid in tissue repair and regeneration. The amino acids in these proteins also help in detoxification and elimination of harmful substances in the body. Also, green tea extract provides potent antioxidant and liver-protecting activity. A full spectrum of vitamins and minerals, in their most absorbable forms, are also in these medical foods to ensure adequate amounts of these nutrients are available for tissue detoxification and regeneration. All of the added ingredients in the medical foods, including efficient antioxidants and extracts, help maintain the body’s normal inflammatory response. “Ask your doctor about what type of medical food would best suit your needs and your taste!”

LIVER’S ROLE IN DETOXIFICATION DETOXIFICATION

In our liver, specific enzymes are produced in order to perform the first step of detoxification. These enzymes detoxify medications, caffeine, alcohol, many food constituents, and environmental pollutants by making them more water-soluble. Individuals who cannot tolerate caffeine, perfumes, or chemical odors often have a dysfunction in phase I. Primary Nutrients: B vitamins, vitamin C, folic acid, copper, magnesium, and zinc; cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, and cauliflower; and flavonoids, such as silymarin from milk thistle, curcumin from spice turmeric, and polyphenol antioxidants from grape seeds and green tea.

The substances from part I, which are partially detoxified, next react with other substances in the liver. After they are converted into water-soluble compounds, they can be eliminated from the body in forms of waste. For this too happen, the liver needs antioxidants, vitamins, amino acids, and other substances to efficiently detoxify. WEEK 2 DIET You may eat all allowed foods; some people find it helpful to eliminate meat, fish and legumes for Days 8-14 For Days 8-14: take up to 3 servings of medical food/ day; if 3 servings is too much, you may take 2 servings/ day

WEEK 3 DIET: REVERSE OF WEEK 1 DIET You may eat all allowed foods; For Days 15-17 take 2 servings of medical food/ day; if you eliminated legumes, add them back during this time For Days 18-21 take 1 servings of medical food/ day; if you eliminated meat and fish, add them back during this time

HOW WILL I FEEL ON THE A LLERGY PROTOCOL?

HOW SHOULD I GET STARTED ON THE ALLERGY ELIMINATION DIET?

During the three weeks you are on this program you are going to need to diligently watch what you eat and follow the guidelines. The best idea is to choose a three-week period when you have no trips planned, no big family get-togethers, no holidays like Thanksgiving or Christmas, and no big events like weddings. This will make staying on the program a lot easier!

Many people have a lessening of their symptoms while on the Allergy Elimination diet. Most feel a greater sense of energy and well being, with better sleep. However, some people feel fatigued or have a return of old symptoms. This is not an uncommon occurrence as the body detoxifies. If this occurs, it is important to note that it should be temporary; however, if symptoms become bothersome, check with your health-care practitioner. Don’t give up! Your body has been used to collecting toxins for years, so it may take some time to effectively detoxify.

Reintroducing Foods to Your Diet After the Three-Week Program It is important that you introduce no more than one food item at a time from the list to the left, and that you allow three days before introducing another food item. Each newly introduced food should be eaten during at least two of the three meals daily for three days. If you begin to react before the three days is up, stop eating the offending food. If you react to an introduced food, wait until the reaction subsides before introducing another food. Below is a personal response chart for your food reintroduction.

7 Instructions for Medical Food Week 1 (Days 1-4) One serving of Medical Food once daily in 8-10 ounces water or juice in the morning just before breakfast. Follow the Week 1 elimination diet, unless otherwise advised. Week 1 (Days 5-7) Increase to one serving of Medical Food twice daily, just before breakfast and dinner and continue on diet.
