Mrs Hargreaves, Mrs Sanson, Mr Smith and Mr Bell accepted the award from the NSW Minister of Education on Friday night in Sydney. Congratulations also to Mr Darryl Ward from Albury High School who also received a leadership award on the night.

If your child missed the stall, there are still some presents left which can be purchased at the school office this week. Canteen Congratulations – We are officially a Healthy School A huge congratulation to our Canteen Manager Cheryl Dinan for being awarded the Healthy School Canteen Badge from the NSW Premier & Cabinet. Over the last few months Cheryl has worked very closely with Brendan Pearson from Murrumbidgee Health to create a canteen menu that meets the new food targets to help reduce childhood obesity. Our canteen sells 87% of food that can be eaten ‘everyday’, leaving only 13% of ‘occasional’ food.
Purchasing food on the way to school We are not quite sure if there is a correlation between all the healthy food being sold at our canteen and the amount of children who are stopping at the local shops on the way to school to get something else. But…, if you are sending money to school for canteen purchases you may wish to check to make sure that’s where your child is spending the money.
Teachers are learners too Throughout the year, all of our teachers have been participating in ‘coaching and mentoring’ sessions. This means that teachers have been going into different rooms to watch how other teachers are teaching and how the students are learning. The teachers then go away and discuss in depth the strengths and challenges of the teaching and how it impacted on the students learning. And whilst it can be quite daunting to have so many people watching, these sessions are one of the most effective ways for teachers to continue to refine their teaching. Research has shown that such an approach will have the biggest impact on the learning of our students. Whilst we all enjoy talking to our parents when we can, there are times during the school week that teachers are unable to have a quick check in chat due to attending mandatory meetings. These are the times :
- Wednesdays before and after school (all class teachers) - Monday after school and Thursday before school (all Assistant
Principals and leading teachers).
Canberra Excursion Our Stage 3 Major Excursion is this week: Thursday and Friday The highlights for the students are:
Regatta Point – near Lake Burley Griffin
Parliament House – on top of Capital Hill
Questacon – an amazing Science and Technology place of interest
where our inquiry learning about “Inventions” will certainly be
appropriate
National Museum of Australia – which also includes “Inventions” as
well as amazing technology and aspects of Australia’s history
Australian War Memorial where we honour our fallen heroes and
learn about the wars of our world.
Have a wonderful time in Canberra everyone. See you back at school about 6pm on Friday.
